A loud boom is heard.
“I never believed in the term ‘dream match’, never suited what I was made to be for.”
The words spoken were the first thing we hear from the darkness as the feed slowly faded into a ‘Hollywood’ studio set – the bright studio lights shun down onto Jason Long, looking seriously beaten up and most definitely broken up after the recent events of both his Unsanctioned Match with Dylan for the X*Crown and then his most recent match with Random McConalogue at TAPOUT.
“I never believed in trying to achieve someone else’s dreams, I only cared for my own. When people shout out the word ‘dream match’, it simply irks me in a way that I can’t comprehend well. So, when I – apparently – heard the term being used for this very match? I had to question what this match really was all about. Of course, I knew this was going to be something big because of the prize in store. I knew that we were going to be heading into a heavy brawl for that championship, but was anyone really asking for this match? Was anyone throwing out the words or was someone – deep in their hearts – reflecting their own wants and needs onto others? I wanted to figure that out because I can assure you that there’s nobody who was demanding this match to happen, there was nobody that was over the moon when this match was announced, and nobody – in their right minds – was pleading for their lives to see Steve Awesome take on Jason Long.
I know that I wasn’t, I can admit to that openly.
When I put my name down to become a future challenger to the XHF Hardcore Championship, I wanted to face one man and one man only — Spike Kane. That was the champion when I made my intentions known back in early January, that was the man that I sought out to face one on one again, and that was someone that I knew I could give a damn good fight towards. However, all of it fell apart at Supremacy when he was dethroned and then you took the reins from the man who dethroned him. Am I excited for this match whatsoever? Not entirely, the only reason I’m still doing this match is because I know that I can secure myself the Hardcore Championship no matter who might be the champion, but my dream rematch is dead. My hopes are tarnished and I don’t see anything of face value within this other than just beating the hell out of Steve Awesome and taking the title for myself. But you, Steve, might seem to find some excitement in this.
As someone like myself, I can see where you might find some enjoyment in fighting me for the Hardcore Championship. I’ve been known as a future star for some time, people always tell me that I’ve yet to hit my ceiling and I’ve reached the very top of the mountains everywhere that I’ve gone to, a man that’s limitless with his talents. Of course, someone like you would fucking love to leech off of that, wouldn’t they? The dream match between Steve Awesome and Jason Long isn’t about talents, it’s not about wrestling, it’s not about anything we do in the ring. Steve, this is all for you to just stomp out one more of the new generation. Put out the flame that they might still have burning bright. This is what’s for you. Your dreams are nothing more than your vision to show you can still hang with the best to this day and considering that you were just recently the X*Crown Champion? I’d like to believe that you might’ve proven that already. But, that title you’ve got?
You’re not proven on that.
You’re far from proven when it comes to that championship. You probably signed up for the same reason as me, Steve. You wanted a piece of Spike Kane but you didn’t get him and you got Johnny Sniper instead — which proved to have been a much bigger disappointment than ever before — so, now, you’ve got to look elsewhere to see if you’re a right champion or just on the list of transitionals to a proper champion.”
A deep breath is taken. Jason began to shake his head from side to side, a slight bit of disgust was resting along his face.
“Though, that wouldn’t look good to you now, would it?
A known showboater, performer, a real show off kind of man – and all he’ll be known in a title history is being the carrier for someone else. I mean, that goes against everything that you are, Steve. If you, of all people, become the carrier for someone else? Then, that ruins your whole image, it ruins everything that you are. Nobody’s going to look at you the same. Nobody’s going to think that Steve Awesome is a real kind of player when memories like that can exist.
And there’s nobody to blame but yourself.”
Jason smirked a little bit, a slight chuckle coming from The Catalyst, as his right leg crossed his left.
“That’s only if you allow it, Steve. After all, I didn’t want to face you but you’re willing to bring a fight because you feel as if the dirt sheets are speaking highly of this match happening. But, you need to remember that you allow your ego to be filled with the dirt sheets and everyone’s going to see you as the real you. Not a hero, like you want to admit you can be if you somehow manage to beat me, but as a cruel bastard that needs to be simply put the fuck down before anymore damage can be done. Though, I am tempted to see just how you’d put me out of my misery, Steve. The past couple of years have seen me be put out of my misery as you put it and here I stand, ready to fight again and again, even after loss after fucking loss taken and put on my name.
You’re not special whatsoever, Steve. You repeat the same shit everyone else tells me.
And yet, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Steve, and that’s what you need to be putting more focus on. Not me, but yourself. You’re a mirror, you reflect everything wrong with you onto everyone else, and somehow, someway, it fucking works. A face of a franchise you are not, a weak-minded and ignorant piece of shit is more touching to who you might be. I am not looking to prove myself here, I don’t fucking do that, Steve. I just fight, I just kick the shit out of people, and I take possession of things at the end of the night if they dare put it up for grabs. That’s what I am, that’s who the fuck I am, and I don’t think you realise that because you’ve blinded yourself with wronged facts and the shit that everyone else seems to echo.
The best thing about me is that I don’t need a fucking gimmick to get myself over, to win matches, to show off and show out – I think I’ve been doing pretty fucking well for myself by just being a good wrestler and just having that burning passion to get rid of the bullshit in the sport that I love the fucking most. That’s what I do, Steve. If that’s a gimmick, then it’s mine. But, I truly do fucking dare you to have the balls to do what others couldn’t. Permanently put me in a deep grave and make sure I never climb out, that’s what you hope to accomplish—right?
That’s the happy ending that the world needs to see, right? That’s what the ‘dream match’ needs to end on, that’s what it needs the curtains to close on, is my demise. But, that’s not going to happen. I’m rewriting the fucking script on this one and I’m making this The Catalyst Cut. Not gonna be a four hour journey to find the ending because I’ll make it a quick one but I will make sure it is your most holiest death possible, Steve. I will make sure the grand departure will be right for you. Because, you’ve written yourself to be the hero in this story but that’s never been true.
The monologue has been too much, you’ve said too much to just survive and live to tell the tale. A true sign of being a villain. An evil bastard hiding in plain sight because he doesn’t want to accept his true nature. I’m only doing what is right, after all.”
A pause.
“Because, Steve, you will never replace me as The Real Hero.”
A loud bang is heard once again, the lights inside of the studio begin to fade out, and everything soon turns to black.
