Why You Can’t Deny Ace Sky:
The style and way Otto Ritter wrestles is impressive and fun to watch, however when it comes to Ace that is a big part of Ace’s style however Ace Sky as a ring name is perfect in some ways and a misnomer in some ways too.
Ace in the ring has a trifecta-
catch/pure wrestling from his amateur wrestling background starting at 6 years old ironically after catching British wrestling on television with his brothers and his father pointing out the techniques were derivative of greco roman wrestling which is involved in amateur wrestling. Ace was in martial arts with Taekwondo for a year at that point, and prior to that at 4 years old had begun with gymnastics and soccer for athletics, all in pursuit of becoming a pro wrestler since he was three years old. Ace wanted to be a pro wrestler, martial artist and an astronaut and he’s been able to do the two but messed up his chances with the third.
Ace is very crafty, he makes the fundamentals fun to watch, people tend to write him off as a high-flier due to his size however he has always been more on the fearless but never reckless style of aerialist , he grew up on those legendary aerialists who were more hardcore, however he’s less reckless and it is possible him not being as a reckless has kept him from building his name up like those legends, he has also always been very influenced by the pure wrestlers, those wrestlers who have the respect of their peers and veterans due to tenacious technique.
Also even being a cruiserweight he has power moves in his arsenal too.
Otto Ritter is great at that one style, he may be one of the best or even the best, however Ace has that style mastered along with two other styles of martial arts and Japanese wrestling and cruiserweight wrestling of Mexican wrestling known as Lucha Libre and Japanese style known as Puroresu which has Japanese strong style and Lucharesu which is a combination of the Japanese and Mexican wrestling styles.
To explain it using real life wrestlers, Otto in ring wise is based off of Johnny Saint, and Ludwig Kaiser and Tyler Bate , Jack Gallagher however the latter without their power moves. Ace wrestles a style that is used by-
Matt Sydal, Ultimo Dragon, Rey Mysterio, TJ Perkins, Ricochet, AJ Styles, Matt Riddle, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, Dean Malenko,
Tiger Mask, Paul London, KUSHIDA, Masato Yoshino, Mustafa Ali, Justin Gabriel/PJ Black , Neville/Pac and Jonathan Gresham.
In his four decade lifetime, Ace has encountered epic epoch episodic experiences, events. Through a combination of ambition as well as coincidental good luck to become a millionaire in pro wrestling. However he never did it for fame or fortune, his three special interests as a child were outer space, pro wrestling and martial arts.
A prodigy-wunderkind type Ace has an IQ of 190,
his parents are both the possible results of similar tough upbringing from intellectual Russian-Jewish parents. Ace’s father Ian is meek, mild mannered and a bit of a pushover with a hidden backbone. Houston Texas native, his mother Esther is a brassy, bold New Yorker. His father has a minor in astrophysics and makes his living as an experimental physicist while his mother is a theoretical physicist. Ace has the humility and earnestness of his father as well as the scrappy side of his mother. This duality has developed his personality that is enigmatically paradoxal. When it comes to left brain vs right brain, his father is right brain while his mother is left brain. From either nature or nurture of his father’s IQ of 173 just like his younger twin brothers Ivan and Davey. His older brother Arlo is a musical prodigy with an IQ in the 130 range.
However Ace often feels the need to discredit his aptitude as special, he views it as “ bullshit” because he just liked what he was interested in and that was considered to be based on his aptitude, he feels he loves outer space and the pursuit of knowledge as just that, a pure pursuit. He will concede it is more of an aptitude than his athletic ability which purely comes from energy. With all this comes his chemical imbalances resulting in ADHD, OCD, histrionic personality disorder.
The latter is probably the most interesting, he has always been very social to a detriment, his teachers could never get him to shut up or sit still, when he got into wrestling, being a fan favorite suits him as he’d clap his hands, get fans energized. He had his own taunts with a boyish smirk and shrug. Being idiosyncratic makes you stand out as a performer. That is a big contrast with him from bigger wrestlers, there is less showmanship, he does not need to “talk 'em into the building” he doesn’t need to be all jacked and larger than life physically, ring the bell and what he does is inherently swashbuckling. Similar to a superhero such as Spiderman or a Power Ranger rather than your stereotypical 1980’s era Hulk Hogan-Ultimate Warrior style wrestler.
He has succeeded in his main goal towards a solid reputation among peers and legends however he is not free from criticism. “Lack the killer instinct”, “ Nice guys finish last.”
He gets into his confidence and grittiness however he than gets that criticism of being a “ douchebag” and it is tough to look at yourself in the mirror even when you are holding the gold, that’s the price you pay for your own indignation, to be one of the greats, to be elite, ya gotta be a prick. Have that chip on your shoulder.
Ace bounces between effervescent equanimity and iconoclastic intensity.
Desire and determination are dangerous and debilitating because it is so demoralizing. It IS literally detrimental to your morals to be the best of the best.
Those negatives are often ignored to paint desire and determination in a positive light. Every wrestler knows to be elite, to be the best you have to be a prick about it and someone like Ace unfortunately can get to that prick personality and that is usually how and when he becomes a champion, however literally looking at yourself in the mirror is terrible, you hate being that person.
It is not possible to be just a nice guy or you will finish last and those guys actually don’t last unlike Ace. Ace may be viewed as too nice but there are actual people out there who are that way and Ace outlasted them.
Ace has just always had this moral code that is also complicated and may even seem hypocritical at times.
He believes in sticking up for yourself, unfortunately being assertive about the standard you are treated when you are on the smaller side in size is paramount survival socially.
Ace never had a chip on his shoulder about it, in a napoleon-complex way, he just always was himself to the fullest and that either opens doors for you or gets them slammed in your face. How you take that is telling of your true ambitions, Ace just breaks through that door to get to that next level.
The first example of that was
Aspiring to be a wrestler by three years old, starting out in non-contact sports with soccer and gymnastics. Transitioning into contact sports in Taekwondo at five years old and amateur wrestling at six years old. Becoming a black belt five or six years under the usual age of achieving that, on his 10th birthday. Backyard wrestling for three years going from backyards with trampolines to underground shows first with boxing rings which were too dangerous to build their own rings. Even back then as a backyard wrestler he stood out. It was common for these older teens to use a smaller trampoline to springboard themselves up on the roof of their house and do a dive to the bigger trampoline. That may sound perfect for Ace’s wheelhouse, however he did not do that as often. He was focusing on being a Japanese style wrestler rather than just the hardcore-highflying though he does love those wrestlers and if he was more like them, he may have been more popular and well-known. Plus he promised his parents he would not get hurt. He would do his fair share of crazy shit he knows he should discourage kids to do at home but feels like a hypocrite because that is how he started out. He did swanton bombs off of ladders, he perfected landing safely on his head and neck from martial arts dojo mats, amateur wrestling mats, trampolines to boxing rings to pro wrestling rings.
He didn’t get his first concussion until he was 25 years old.
His shoulders were the first to falter. It was very tough being 10 years in professionally at just 25 and having these minor rotator cuffs and some problems with his right leg since amateur wrestling. It was not until his 29th birthday when he got his foot destroyed on a motorcycle, actually more of a mini scooter type of motorcycle. That led to release from the major American promotion he was working for at the time. At that time he had been on hiatus due to overuse of marijuana, it was less stringent in that time, you could only get fined for it , the main problem was when it leaked to the dirt sheets and it messed with the image they wanted to portray him as which was kind of fitting in some ways but was not nuanced enough, it is tough to execute a nuanced version of yourself in 30 seconds of advertisement. Plus he did not know himself deep enough. He had this different attitude from others where he enjoyed listening to veterans , guys he looked up to in positions where he could get tips, a lot of younger guys were against that, Ace felt like he was still very much in student mode even as a young veteran at the time among his peers. To simplify it by this time at 25 years old he was this successful pro wrestler with a genius level IQ, southern-comfort polite personality , he was the perfect guy to a girl can bring home to her parents, however she was not the only girl in his hammock, looking up at the stars while high on pot together. Ace also had the excuse professionally through his injuries that he was not using it recreationally even if sometimes he was. Once the public finds out you’re kind of this rebel in a way, it is tough to just portray you as a family-friendly superhero type.
Ace is NOT a tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LawfulGood , he is a tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChaoticGood
However back to the analogy of him breaking down those doors that is best shown through his desire to become a professionally. A couple other backyard wrestlers desired to however it was obvious not to him but everyone else that he would most likely “ make it”. He told his parents in August of 1996 that he was essentially going to run away from home to Canada or Mexico to get trained and be a wrestler, his parents were able to calm him down and help him find a local promotion. He grew up in Houston, Texas in Sugar Land Texas where he got his start was a promotion in Galveston called Galveston Championship Wrestling, they had a wrestling school program called Fight Zone. His parents however made him procure the money for the tuition on his own. He had his farewell backyard match on September 6th 1996, he had started in the backyard wrestling league officially on May 8th 1993, as mentioned he had achieved his black belt in Taekwondo on his 10th birthday which was March 16th 1993.
He spent four months from September 7th 1996 to January 17th 1997 working for the tuition money by cleaning his neighbor’s pools, mowing lawns, tutoring their teenage children for the SATS , doing his younger twin brothers’ chores for more allowance and then used a small bit of his Bar Mitzvah money. Back in 1994 he got in an advanced placement program being able to skip junior and high school to graduate and go to the state university as both student and assistant professor.
He began training on January 20th 1997.
Training there was like a steambell release for him, it was the best time of his life that first day of training. He was behind the curtain finally. He was a black sheep, older wrestlers and trainees there did not care for him due to his size, age and the worst of all the stigma of being a backyard wrestler. His main trainer Mike, a 38 year old veteran of 18 years was even tough on him. However Ace was impressing the higher ups with how coachable he was from his athletic background, plus his enthusiasm. Ace did not desire money for compensation of anything, he would clean up the ring, break it down, set it up. He was a maniac in a good way but rare case of loving learning to take bumps( learning to fall), he was like a human pinball. He was practicing maneuvers with his brothers at home. He bonded with one student, younger like him, smaller like him. Damian, 27th months older at 16 years old, shares the same birthday as Ace’s mother , December 16th. A couple inches taller than Ace and about 90 pounds heavier. Damian was the human encyclopedia on Japanese and Mexican wrestling, they bonded however Damian was developing his gimmick of Locuro, a masked luchador that is the epitome of insanity. It took him over like a symbiotic fashion similar to in a Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. As Locuro he became like the Green Goblin to Ace’s Spider-Man.
On Ace’s 14th birthday a big announcement was made by GCW that they got a cable access television deal! They would tape on thursdays to saturdays and it would air at 4 AM. However the one condition from the network due to the strict rules enforced by the state athletic commission you had to be 18 to become pro legally. Ace was devastated. He came up with the plan where he and Damian would sneak in hours before the tapings and practice and spar in the ring. Unfortunately Mike caught them quite quickly, however he was not angered, he was impressed and allowed them to continue but they had to make themselves scarce during the tapings. On March 16th the following year, Ace’s 15th birthday Mike got him a birthday present: He and Damian would face each other in an exhibition match in front of three main members of the state athletic commission to get licensed. Despite first mocking them at the table to themselves due to their small size their jaws were literally dropped by their work in the ring. The techniques they got from Mexican and Japanese wrestling are prevalent in today’s current style however not the case back in the late 1990’s of Texas. They got licensed and faced each other again in their debut pro match at the first live taping of GCW’s show on March 20th 1998.
However in April of 1999 , on the same day Ace and Locuro were both highlighted as prospects out of Texas in the niche but very popular major wrestling newsletter a bad thing happened.
Ace’s childhood bully J.T. Douglas broke his first story as a sports journalist that Ace was selling cannabis and magic mushrooms to students at the college he was attending, this news was true. Luckily Ace was still a juvenile at 16 years old and he was expelled and it got put on his academic record therefore ruining his chances at ever working for NASA. Ace went full into wrestling and J.T. has continued to use his platform as a right wing radical and sports journalist to critique Ace at every opportunity.
Everyone loves Ace Sky, well one person does not at all, and that one person is J.T. Douglas, Jason Tyler Douglas. J.T. never approved of Ace being involved in sports, he was the ace himself, a multi-varsity athlete what bothered him, what really got to him was having to share the spotlight with this " pipsqueak". Ace was never captain of teams like he was but Ace would get into the papers due to being exceptional despite his size. J.T. Douglas became more consumed with his disdain for people rooting for underdogs instead of " alpha" types he aligns with that he has become a vicious sportswriter and online personality. He has relished in Ace's failures and has a bias against him. When they were children Ace was not like the other scrawny nerds he could ostracize easily, Ace was different, it got much more difficult for him as Ace was not just this genius kid who would join in and play with them, back then he could stand a little ground over Ace who was just playing girly sports gymnastics, soccer, as Ace got more into the amateur wrestling and martial arts he was also partaking in that was when Ace became untouchable . The early summer of 1993 J.T. threw his hat down in disgust and whined all day and really took out his frustration on his group of peers he was the king of when Ace was a black belt now in Taekwondo and a standout lowest weight class amateur wrestler, he stood up to him and beat the shit out of his gang, it was like a movie like the Karate Kid , Ace just took them all down and let all his nerdy little friends live their fantasy of playing football with the neighborhood kids Since then he has had a vindictive vendetta against Ace.
After being released from the major wrestling promotion in 2014 with his completely disfigured right foot from the motorcycle accident, Ace had been getting more involved spiritually, that weekend he went to the Peruvian jungle on an ayahuasca retreat and was legally administered psychedelic plant medicine drinks from monks. Ace claims this made him reborn and gave him superpowers linked to his spirit animal of the jaguar in super speed, controlling and slowing down time and telekinetic psychic abilities as a wrestler. He has spent close to a decade now with a new mindset mixing his spiritual philosophies influenced by Bruce Lee, Carl Sagan, Alan Watts, Timothy Leary , Buddhism and Taoism with his philosophies as a martial artist and veteran pro wrestler. Using monikers such as The Galaxy Guru, Nebula Ninja and Space Shaman.
In 2020 he became the top most requested free agent in professional wrestling and has a networth of close to 3 million dollars. However as a hippie material possessions aren’t really his bag, outside of wrestling he continues to pursue yoga and martial arts, catch wrestling/ BJJ, surfing. Exploring his spirituality as well as continuing to focus on his interest in astrophysics and astronomy. He is a very disciplined man, however he is also hedonistic and is poly-amarous heterosexual. On October 30th 2022 JT exposed him again through the mainstream conservative news media for his alcohol and drug use since joining the wrestling promotion CULT on February 12th and becoming a regular at velvetrabbit.freeforums.net/
Ace owned up to it and became sober from alcohol since October 30th 2022 and on March 18th 2023 became tag team champions at UWL cponline.boards.net/
With Nick Danger forming the tag team “The Rising Aces”.
