Sam sits alone in the gym's cafeteria, watching an Esmeralda von Krauss match on their phone. They're alone except for a pair chatting quietly across the room. After wrestling four nights in a row they have the night off tonight, so they'll be spending their entire day here. Almost every day for a month they've been training in a different gym, in and around New York. Having to meet a new group of people every day is a little tiring. Being sort of famous makes it uncomfortable at times. Other than the homesickness it can bring on, they don't mind too much. This gym in Brooklyn hasn't been so bad. Nobody's really talked to them yet but they're happy on their own.
???: Hi.
They look up to see somebody smiling at them. A young man around Sam's age, they don't think they noticed him earlier.
???: Can I sit?
Sam: Yeah, sure.
Sam smiles, turning the screen off as he sits opposite them.
???: I'm Riley.
Sam: Sam.
Riley: I know. You're famous or something, aren't you? A wrestler?
Sam: Yeah... a wrestler.
He looks curious, not particularly impressed.
Riley: Are you good?
Sam: Um... yeah.
A little bemused by their modesty he just stares at them for a moment, then smiles. Sam smiles too, a little uneasily.
Riley: I don't watch it. That's cool though. Everyone started talking about you when you left.
Sam's eyes widen.
Sam: Oh... I don't mind.
Riley: I thought you might want someone to talk to.
Sam smiles, at a loss for words. Riley is still a little bemused.
Sam: Thanks.
A conversation is nothing unusual, but this is different. Sam can tell he likes them.
Riley: If I'm bothering you, I can go.
Sam: ... No.
Riley smiles, looking slightly embarrassed too for a second.
Riley: Just not much of a talker?
Sam: ... No.
Riley: Talk about wrestling. What's it like?
Sam: Um...
Not really thinking about the question, they just stare at Riley. After an awkward silence they're about to force themselves to speak just before Riley breaks it.
Riley: Hey... why don't you come with me to Jessi's? Have a coffee with me and we'll talk about wrestling.
Sam smiles, looking flattered.
Sam: I can't... sorry. I have to train.
Riley: Just for an hour. ... Half an hour?
Sam: Sorry...
Riley gives a light sigh, but smiles.
Riley: Maybe I'll just hang around here then...
Sam smiles back at him.
Sam: Cool.
