PRESENTS
TAP OUT WRESTLING 16: POENA VS LONG
Date: Sunday, 27th August 2023
Venue: The Diamond Club, Las Vegas, Nevada
Capacity: 18000
MAIN EVENT
NON-TITLE
NON-TITLE
Poena (#2) vs Jason Long (#3)
In a non-title match, the new Tap Out Wrestling Openweight Champion faces the #3 ranked wrestler. That in itself would be an interesting match-up, but after the events of the Night of Champions weekend, this match will be a full-on war.
Jason Long has witnessed the torment that Jack Diamond was put through by Poena but has never been in the ring with The Sanctified One to this point. Having watched Poena crash Jack’s birthday celebration in DTF and then, the following night, seeing just how crazed the new Champion can be, will Long be able to keep himself focused enough to get the job done in the main-event?
The shot of Poena standing over the unconscious body of Jack Diamond may well be what sticks with the Tap Out audience. In a match full of blood, guts and intensity, Poena managed to do what only his opponent had done before him, beat Jack Diamond. With the title now in his possession, will he and his God be satisfied or will Poena look to try to add Long to those who worship his Lord?

CO-MAIN EVENT
XHF TAG-TEAM TITLE MATCH
The Throw Show (Tuff & Close Collins) vs Cut Throat Chaos (Daigo Arakawa/Hunter Storms) (c)
Competing for the tag-team titles presents the biggest test for the Throw Show that they’ve faced so far. The Father/Son team of Tuff and Close Collins have put in some great performances and even in a loss against The Icons, they showed strategy and teamwork that could very well be the cornerstone of a great tag-team. Will they be able to take advantage of the title-shot and cause what many would call an upset?
Cut Throat Chaos reminded everyone at Night of Champions of their pedigree as they captured the XHF Tag-team titles. With a devastating mix of high-impact offense from Storms and Daigo’s speed-based style that helped power them to his second XHF title, they have adaptability to their gameplan where their opponents might now. Their appearance means that all of the Harbingers will be present at the event. Will this have any influence on the outcome of the match or just be a piece of trivia when the night ends?
TRIOS MATCH
Wildcat Capone (#11) / Jack Diamond (#1) / Sam Sawyer (#8) vs Raiden Ishimori (#13) / Tommy Strychnine (#10) / Jacob Craft (#15)
Holding both sides of the event together is a Tap Out Trios Match and this might well be the most unpredictable one yet!
On one side of the ring, you have Wildcat Capone who continues to improve inside the ring but can frustrate with his form. Last time we saw him, Random McConalogue and he had what seemed to be a loose alliance. What will her influence mean on Wildcat’s style and offense? The addition of submissions might well be what Capone needs to push on in Tap Out Wrestling.
Giving Capone guidance from the apron though is the former Openweight Champion, Jack Diamond. In an absolute war, he found himself unable to retain the title against Poena as he passed out from the hold. That he was unlucky not to retain isn’t up for debate what is in the balance is how well his shoulder and arm will have healed during his camp and even for the night. Another question remains as what mental toll he took not just in the match at Night of Champions, but in the build-up to it. Can he put that behind him and start his ascent back to a rematch?
The last member of their team is Sam Sawyer who came up short in their quest to capture the X*Crown but won over a large portion of the crowd and showed off a more ruthless side to their game during the match. With an already impressive tenure in Tap Out so far, it remains to be seen what adjustments to their game will be made off the back of such a gruelling match against a host of the XHF Network’s biggest stars.
On the other side of the ring is a team that many would tip to match their opponents starting with Raiden Ishimori. Picking up the pin in last month’s Main Event, Ishimori opened his Tap Out account with a display that showcased what he can bring. From high-flying attacks to submissions from nowhere, you can’t afford to underestimate Bone Cold.
Joining him is another man who can mix up high-flying attacks, this time with mat-based grappling and brawling honed from playing a hundred dive bars on the way to musical stardom. Strych just came up short against Julius Fristik but he’ll be keen to rectify the mistake. A particular battle to keep an eye on will be between Tommy and Jack Diamond as the Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Wrestler will want to prove that on a different day, he might have been the one to dethrone Jack Diamond.
Lastly, there’s Jacob Craft. His talent is undeniable but last month saw his mouth eclipse his fortune as he narrowly lost to Random McConalogue. Having made his debut in a six-man tag-team match, Jacob knows what to expect in a match like this. With questions surrounding the shoulder of Diamond, could the submission expert use that as the basis for what would be a huge win for the Maelstrom?
TAG-TEAM MATCH
NOMAD (#9) / Julius Fristik (#14) vs Aiden Merric (#5) / Random McConalogue (#6)
In a match that could well be THE tag-team match of the night, we see two evenly-matched teams square off.
NOMAD returned to Tap Out after an injury-enforced absence kept him out of competition, the Violent Wanderer might have lost the match but he reminded everyone exactly what he’s capable of inside the ring. With a more brawl-based approach seemingly taking preference this time out, NOMAD’s size and power can silence any opponent on the roster. Mixing up kicks, boots, suplexes, slams and bombs to devastating effect, can NOMAD make sure it’s his arm raised at the end of this match?
Joining him is Julius Fristik, now an official Tap Out roster member. With a single-issue agenda of making his own name outside the shadow of Jesse Jamester, Fristik put away Tommy Strychnine with a display that showed the many differing influences he has picked up on his global journey as a wrestler. With two huge scalps on offer to take, the Son of Calgary will be sure to explode out of the blocks when that bell rings.
Aiden Merric picked up the win in last month’s main-event but when the bell rang to end the match, Aiden found himself laid out thanks to NOMAD and he’ll be chomping at the bit to right that wrong. Now aligned with the Icons, what influence will that bring to his game? Smashmouth brawling and a never-say-die attitude have taken him this far in his career but is this going to be the push that puts him over the top?
Joining the Australian is Random McConalogue! The catch-as-catch-can expert put in a valiant effort in the Cruiserfest match at Night of Champions but ultimately came up just short. Returning back to Tap Out and the chance to take down a giant in NOMAD or a second-generation wrestler in Fristik could be just the ticket to get them back to winning ways.
OPENER
Jackalope (#4) vs Ashton Henare (#12)
Opening up proceedings is a match where the two participants couldn’t be further apart in size, style and approach.
Jackalope’s all-action aerobatic style has won over crowds whenever he has appeared. The mysterious young wrestler has never shied away from a challenge and none come bigger than Ashton Henare. Can the Chaos Bunny take down the Kiwi?
If Henare has anything to say about it, Goliath won’t be losing to David when this night comes around. With a flair for showmanship, the biggest man on the Tap Out roster has physically dominated everyone he has faced so far but with a split-record, can the Personification of Domination start to live up to the potential spotted by Tap Out Road Agent, Va’aiga?
