Sinclair Godfrey’s hair snapped around her face as she stepped onto the upper deck of the airship, her coat snapping and swirling around her as she walked across the floor with a faint frown. Her boots clicking as she moved deftly between the groaning and battered forms of Armand’s sparring partners.
The Twins rose suddenly, stepping forward as Armand turned to face her with his cigarette in hand. The Baroness paused, and glanced around her with a sniff as her lips curled into a smirk. Armand shrugged, and waved the Twins back.
‘Forgive the mess, I am training.’
‘I know a fit of pique when I see one, Armand. I worked for Donzig for years.’
The Twins glanced at each other, and laughed. Armand glared at them, and they halted as he inclined his head with a swirl of smoke. A glance over his shoulder to where Victoria sat watching with dark eyes, Sinclair met her gaze with a hiss. Armand nodded.
‘Ah, this business again. Victoria has no issues with you, do you, dear?’
Victoria frowned, and gave a shake of her head as Sinclair kept her eyes narrowed on her.
‘If Victoria has no issues with me, she needs to keep her nose out of my business. I should be wearing the WUK Tag Team Title, and instead they are around the waist of those–’ Her lips twisted, and she sneered as a hand lifted to rake back her hair. ‘--rabble.’
‘Ah, well, that was about Esmeralda.’
Armand nodded, a faint smile on his lips as he looked back to Sinclair. The Baroness glared at him, then she looked at the scattered bodies before shrugging.
‘If Victoria has an issue with Esmeralda, she should settle it with Esmeralda. She wanted her seat at the table of Donzig-gun, and now? She cowers behind you like a child.’
Victoria sputtered, starting to rise before Sinclair stepped towards her. Armand moved to get between them, lifting his hands with a laugh as the Twins decided to be anywhere but near an angry Godfrey.
‘Ladies!’
Sinclair glared at him.
‘You claim to lead, but you have forgotten the rules. The strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the wolf. Victoria infects us with her weakness, her cowardice! You protect her for no reason from what she has earned!’
Armand blinked, and his eyes flashed.
‘I do as I will! Did Donzig never protect you?’
Sinclair frowned.
‘You are not Donzig, and that woman is not me.’
Victoria started to speak, and Armand waved a hand to silence her.
‘Enough!’
‘Listen to Armand, Sinclair! You overstep yourself!’
Sinclair laughed, a cool merciless sound that rang across the deck as she tossed her head back. Her hair swirling before she shrugged, and adjusted her coat with a lick of her lips.
‘There will be a reckoning, Victoria. You know it as well as I do.’
Armand sighed, and he poured himself a drink before he turned to face Sinclair. He leaned against the table, sipping at it before he shrugged with a faint smile. He waved the glass, and turned his eyes to Victoria.
‘I have to plot my revenge on Eron Hunter, Sinclair. What is it you came here for?’
‘Ah, that. It is right you wish revenge on Hunter, he stole from you did he not? But do you actually believe that hero attacked Mormo? Do you think the great Eron Hunter would sully his precious honor by lowering himself to ambushing Mormo?’
Armand sipped at the drink, and shrugged.
‘So what if he didn’t? Does it matter?’
‘Without the truth, we have no meaning.’
Armand lowered the glass, and he turned his cold immortal eyes to the Baroness. Truth be told, sometimes the ways of the Voidsworn baffled him. They seemed so human, and yet sometimes? They spoke in riddles, and he frowned as he swirled the glass before he turned to look on the city below.
‘Who do you think it was?’
Sinclair sniffed.
‘Donzig has many enemies, and they don’t care who commands the Children now.’
Armand arched a brow at that, and Sinclair turned on her heel to walk across the deck. Armand watched her go, sipping at his drink again before he shrugged. Sinclair paused, and her eyes settled on Victoria as her chin lifted.
‘Victoria, if I see you at Legacy? You will pray for Esmeralda’s mercy when I am finished with you.’
‘You dare!’
Victoria started as she rose once more, Armand waved a hand to motion her back as Sinclair swept into the elevator.
