INT. 02 ARENA
KALMIN WATTS stands next to KATIE MOSS in the press area of the 02 Arena, where Battle of Britain II will take place. The WUK World Heavyweight champion will make his first defense, and he’s doing all he can to prepare. Chasing a title isn’t the same as defending. Watts is learning that.
The WUK World Heavyweight Title rests over his shoulder as Watts is finally taking the belt out of Oklahoma with Battle of Britain II. Watts was never the insecure kind who had to keep the belt around like a security blanket. When he defends it or has an appointment to interact with the fans, he brings it. If it’s a non-title function or a mundane part of life, he leaves it on display back home.
Moss gets the cue from her producer and begins the interview.
MOSS
I’m here with WUK World Champion, Kalmin Watts, who’s fresh off a big tag team victory with one of his future opponents, Psychotic Goth. Goth had something to say to you after the match. Can you share what he said?
WATTS
(smirking) He reminded me about our upcoming match.
What Goth really said was not even close to that level of cordiality. It wasn’t composed of idle words. It was a promise: a promise of pain and heartbreak. Goth had been a big player in WUK for about as long as there had been a WUK. He had always been included in the elite, but never broke through with a signature WUK World Title victory. He firmly believed that time had come.
MOSS
Also, at Legacy #19, we learned that you will also be defending against Eron Hunter. When Eron left the company, a lot of people said you took over his role in the company. Now, he’s back and as good as ever. What kind of challenge will he present?
Watts had a feeling that Hunter was going to be Armand. Hunter was elite in every sense of the word. Katie was right about Hunter being the man before Watts. Hunter was the future in his first stint in WUK. He was a popular Commonwealth Champion. Everyone was waiting for him to rise to the top. Watts was a fan, too. He’d planned to make an impact in the Commonwealth division after Hunter inevitably moved to the top. It didn’t quite work out that way.
WATTS
He could be the biggest challenge of my career. There aren’t many who have the athletic ability of Eron Hunter. He can do it all. He can wrestle on the mat, fly through the air, wrestle with power, and win the most violent fights. I don’t take him lightly.
MOSS
And how do feel about the idea that you’re a stand-in for Hunter? You held down his role of being a hero to the WUK fans, but now the original hero is back. Can you show the world that this is your spot, not his?
WATTS
Eron Hunter was and still is great. The thing is that he left the company. Life moved on. It wasn’t Eron Hunter that ended Wesley Crane’s reign of terror. It was me. I got the opportunity, and I made the most of it. I’ve proven myself to be the top star in WUK. I mean no disrespect, but I’ve passed Eron Hunter by. I’m the man, and I’m not going to give that up! If Hunter expects me to just stand aside, he’ll be disappointed at Battle of Britain!
Watts was being honest. He liked and respected Hunter, but he hated the idea that he was meant to be some chump holding down the fort while Hunter was away. Watts was on the upswing. He was going to have a successful title defense. He didn’t want the rest of the Night of Champions to taint the view of him as a champion. Despite what others may say, he’s not a quitter, and he’s not a loser.
MOSS
Now you defend your title against Psychotic Goth and Eron Hunter. The odds are against you. How do you plan to walk out WUK World Champion?
WATTS
I know the odds are against me. From what I’ve heard, this isn’t an elimination match. The man who scores the first fall will be the WUK World Heavyweight Champion. That means you can’t get distracted. You have to know where the third man is. If I focus on Hunter too much, Goth will get me. I’ve wrestled Goth before and won, but he made me pay any time I thought I could let up. If I lose track of him, he’ll hurt me. I can slow him down, but no one can stop him. I have to use his aggression against him. I have to be ready to throw him into the mat as hard as possible. When there’s an opening, I have to get the Sooner Squeeze on him and make him tap out!
MOSS
And Hunter?
WATTS
I plan on grounding him. Yes, he can do it all, but I’m a better mat wrestler! I’m gonna bring him to the ground and make him beat me at my specialty. Eron Hunter is great, but I’m the WUK World Heavyweight champion. You’re going to have to be better than the best to take it away from me!
