[The camera opens to a bustling airport terminal, travelers moving hurriedly to their gates, but amidst this sea of people sits El Karas, waiting at a terminal which will presumably be where he will board his plane. He’s wearing his trademark cyan, pink, and purple mask (now that he’s through security) but he’s sporting a t-shirt of a local band and dark blue, denim jeans. His casual posture can’t hide the thoughtful, purposeful look in his eyes behind the mask.]
El Karas: "Ya know, the chaos of an airport is one of the few places in the world where everyone is an equal. Once you pass security, and before you get separated by 1st class and priority boarding, this is the time where millionaire schemers, underpaid interns, and struggling parents are indistinguishable.“
El Karas: "The equality we experience in an airport isn’t what we’re accustomed to in this world. There are those who hoard opportunities, those who selfishly grasp power, and those who hold others down to maintain their lofty positions. They believe that only a select few should succeed while the rest are left to struggle like a crow picking through their leftovers."
[He clenches a fist, his words filled with conviction.]
El Karas: "My name is El Kara’s and I’m not about that. No one should be denied their chance to rise and succeed. Competition is about bringing the best out of yourself to help others rise to the occasion."
[Adjusting his mask, he takes a sip from his overpriced bottle of water and clears his throat. His voice seems a touch deeper but more natural than it was before.]
El Karas: “There’s a competition in the UK happening that promises to do just that. The Battle of Britain at the O2 Arena. 20,000 fans coming to watch the best at their craft perform all so they can say: ‘I saw something amazing, tonight.’ They may have come to watch a triple threat match between three of the best do battle for Heavyweight Championship but I promise you this: I don’t care who you showed up to root for but I’m going to make sure, before the end of the night, that y’all know the names and faces of everyone who puts their heart and soul into a 30-Man Battle Royal. Look at the names up and down that roster: there’s not a single one of those men or women who are interested in taking a backseat to those further up the card. We know, better than most, that not everyone gets these chances to perform: and I don’t take that for granted.”
[El Karas takes a moment to look around the airport, at the faces of travelers from all walks of life.]
El Karas: "Just like this airport, where people from diverse backgrounds come together, so too should opportunities be open to all. I’m an American ready to compete in another country with or without the permission of ‘purists’ who think they actually hold sway because my purpose, this message, transcends borders and boundaries."
[Some of the people in the airport have actually paused to listen to this masked man, his words resonating with travelers, some nodding in agreement, as El Karas leans forward confidently.]
El Karas: "To the United Kingdom, I bring a message of change. I may have come from Los Angeles, but my message is universal. I will step into that ring, and I will fight for those who have been held back, for those who have been denied their chance. I will dismantle the oppressive structures that hold you down, brick by brick, the same way I have in my own home. Remember the name: El Karas. The King of Crows with no crown, no castle, and no throne. For me: this ain’t about winning a title opportunity at the 1st time of asking; I ain’t owed a damn thing from anyone except a spot in that ring. And it won’t matter when my name is called because, when we step into the ring, we’re all equals.”
[He stands up now, addressing the small group surrounding him as much as he’s addressing the camera that’s rolling.]
El Karas: “That’s why I love professional wrestling: this ain’t socc…I mean football…”
[The crowd jokingly mixes in boos or cheers depending on how they feel about El Karas’ choice of words. It throws the masked man off his rhythm for a spell as he joins in the laughter.]
El Karas: “No matter what you call the sport, it’s a game where entire countries own and enrich the biggest clubs so that you’ll forget about their crimes against humanity because money, in their world, buys memory loss. In our great sport of Professional Wrestling, where violence and artistry collide, everyone can fly higher than they did before no matter the result. It’s something better than the ego you get from winning a match, or slinging a gold belt over your shoulder: And it’s certainly not to drag others through the shit I’ve had to live through. I fight and perform to make sure no one else has to experience what I endured. Because I want to live in that future where Everybody Eats.”
[With El Karas’ words lingering in the air, he disappears into the crowd, leaving through a trail of travelers and wrestling fans ready to witness his debut and his mission for change in Wrestle:UK.]
