In 1978 John Carpenter introduced a new kind of genre, the mad slasher horror movie which became quite successful and made Michael Myers a horror icon. Then came Friday the 13th which introduced us to the masked monster Jason Voorhees who also became a horror icon. They also became franchise movie villains in a genre I call The special/holiday horror movies....One note though, Halloween III: Season of the Witch is not even associated with the Halloween franchise only in name to try and give it attention. Anyway, in between there was one silly special/holiday movie after another such as April Fool's Day, Independence Day which was a sci fi War of the Worlds and an unwanted sequel. There was even a 1981 Creepshow segment called Father's Day and an awful comedy called Saturday the 14th. Christmas didn't escape either with Kramptus which was the opposite of St. Nick, The Grinch that stole Christmas and the worst offender that deserved a ton of coal in a stocking The Sleigh Ride movies, which had that great acting talent former WCW Champion Goldberg. Yeah that Goldberg. Each wanted to be a franchise only to meet failure. Thankfully, someone finally came out with a slasher movie that is enjoyable but don't watch it if you were enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner. The movie is called Thanksgiving about a killer out for revenge but I'll mention why soon. It begins with a huge crowd of people outside a Rite Mart, who want to grab literally the deals the store is having at midnight. It's kind of like Wal Mart's infamous midnight sales only it gets out of hand. It seems five teens sneak into the store and taunt the mob which breaks through the barrier and smashes into the store grabbing merchandise and killing the store's manager. Flash forward one year later and Rite Mart is still open but the horror begins almost immediately as the killer starts killing those involved in the store manager's death. The media calls him John Carver, who goes around dressed as a pilgrim. Meanwhile the five teens attempt to stop him, but one by one they also meet their end in typical slasher fashion. The town considers canceling the parade but like all movies like this they go on with it and the result is someone dressed as a clown, an obvious homage to Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and this clown kidnaps them and takes the town's prominent citizens to a warehouse. Why not the Rite Mart it would have been a better location. Anyway, John Carver literally livestreams the terror he's about to unleash. The question is why livestream what you are doing if someone is going to find you. I did enjoy parts of this movie especially the climax which probably will end up as a sequel. The acting wasn't so bad since it's reminiscent of the eighties and nineties teen horror movies and it has the same gritty background as well. Let's hope they can improve on this movie if a sequel comes out next year and being it looks like it's a cheapo you may see a sequel.
