**NOTE** The following segment is airing on DTF's Diamond Mine V - Thanks to a tape delay it's now been sent to the XHF Network ahead of W:UK's Legacy 21 show.
We cut to the press room of Mennaye Field, Cornwall, England. A long table is set out with Cross Recoba on one side of center, and an open water bottle in front of him. His expression is one of amusement as we hear the last of the laughter from the gaggle of journalists fade away. On the other side, Kasper Van Zant sits with her manager, Slam 2 standing behind her. Her expression isn’t quite as amused as Recoba’s but she seems relaxed. John Hawke has assumed the role of compere for the proceedings, separating the two sides as he stands in the center of the table.
John Hawke: I think we’ve got time for two or three more questions before we can bring this to a close.
Hawke’s head darts around the room until he spots a raised hand and motions with his head for the question.
Journalist: Glenn Anderton, Grapple Gossip. We all know what a win could do for Kasper. She’s at the start of her career and if she captured the X*Crown, it’d make her name on the Network…but what about a win for Cross? What does that achieve?
Murmurs are heard around the room as Recoba takes a moment to formulate his reply.
Cross Recoba: Glenn, this is about giving the companies that have been shunned before. If Wrestle: UK want to put their faith behind KVZ, then I’m not going to argue with them. I could face Alexander von Blankenship in HKW next month and he’s not more than a couple of years into his career. The following month I can see Ulysses Cole being the DTF rep at Supremacy and after that?
Kasper Van Zant can be seen to grow visibly more tired and angry as Cross speaks
Cross Recoba: Maybe I go to JROK and face Sonya Benson or SCCW and take on Austin Kade, neither of whom are what you’d call ring veterans….I don’t get to pick my opponents but I can show the Network that regardless of who I’m in the ring with, I put on the match that everyone talks about long after the event is over…
Journalist: Ricky Frost, Sugarcoated Sugarholds. Kasper, how are you going to handle the pressure in what could be the biggest match not just so far in your career to date but the biggest you ever have in wrestling?
Kasper Van Zant: Well, at very high pressures and temperatures, carbon atoms are squeezed so much that they start touching more atoms. When the pressure is about 50,000 times the pressure at the surface of the Earth and the temperature is about 1600°C, the carbon atoms bond with 4 other atoms and result in diamonds…long story short Ricky Frost diamonds are made under high pressure, I'll be no different.
Cross Recoba (muttering): Wrestle: UK actually has a scientific wrestler…
John Hawke: Last question…yes, you.
Journalist: Buck Sobel, DDT Tribune. Will you be able to outshine the potential classic match in the main event between Eron Hunter and Psychotic Goth?
Kasper Van Zant: Well, uh-
Cross Recoba (Cutting her off): Of course! I managed to get people talking about Kalmin Watts outside of Oklahoma, I got people to think that Marty Donovan could do it in front of all of his Beantown fans just yesterday in HKW! Steve Awesome might have taken the headlines with his fireball but if those two meet in December, with the buzz around their feud? It’ll still be Cross Recoba’s successful X*Crown defence that makes the headlines!
Bored of yet another instance of Recoba taking a win against her for granted, Kasper Van Zant pipes up.
Kasper Van Zant: Recoba, tocca ferro, you'll know what it means but it's similar to our phrase of ‘knock on wood’...Recoba should knock on wood that his mouth isn't writing checks his ass can't cash! You haven't won this fight.
Cross Recoba: I’ve won more matches this year than you’ve wrestled in your career, kid. Go too far and I’ll do to your career what Donzig did to the mute behind you!
The sound of two mics dropping….
The two sides charge at each other from opposite sides of the table. John Hawke wisely steps back just in time as XHF Security steps in but Recoba blindsides Slam2 from behind with a microphone shot to the back of the head.
Kasper Van Zant: What balls Recoba! I hope you have this much grit when we finally do have our day you little coward!
Before Recoba can respond, the two sides are dragged off opposite sides of the stage. As they make their way out of shot, the flash of every camera in the room can be seen as the feed is cut.
John Hawke: I think we’ve got time for two or three more questions before we can bring this to a close.
