Life…
…What is it but a fickle candle flame in the wind?
The song of the sea and the melody of the waves sings in his ears, as the sea breeze plays with his hair and caresses his face. He stands tall, on the seashore, and looks at the horizon. His father is no more. That’s it, just like that, and he is gone. What remains is but a mere memory and the feeling of love in the hearts of his family.
Now it is up to Eron Hunter to make a decision; continue living his dream, or live his father’s one. His dream? Be the best wrestler ever. His father’s one? Have a successful business and provide safety and comfort for his family. So, what should a man do? Whatever he decides, a Dream remains a half-walked path. Someone could say that Eron Hunter shouldn’t be so egocentric and egoistical and think about his family. His mother and the others await him to take the reins of the family’s business and ride into the dusk with responsibility and courage.
But Eron himself? What does the man think?
He grits his teeth and digs holes in his black overcoat’s pockets. His family shouldn’t have a care in the world when it comes to economic matters. Eron Hunter is a self-made man. He is a World Champion and has done it all in the Wrestling World. He can provide economic support not only for his mother but also for his cousins and their cousins if the problem arises. Sponsors and whatever else is connected to the Wrestling World, things that bring money into the bank, are part of Eron Hunter’s reality.
Though he is a loner, no man’s an Island In this world. We are all connected somehow because no man can make it alone in the reality that surrounds us. We all have friends and family to take care of and people that take care of us. No man’s an Island.
Even the most Hardcore of Hermits, living in a cave on an island, has a radio nowadays.
People provide love and support for their loved ones. And our loved ones provide love and support for us. So, a man has to make sacrifices for his loved ones now and then. Sometimes a man has to let things go, to be there for his family. Sometimes a man has to make sacrifices. But Eron Hunter? Eron Hunter, as much as he is an altruist, has a lot of love for Wrestling.
He wouldn’t be able to live without it.
And thus, his family would have lost twice. The head of the family and Eron too. If Eron Hunter lets fighting be and leaves Wrestling at the door, he would be half the man he is, at best. Thus, he would live a life of no passion or dreams, he would be a walking vegetable. Would his father want that? Eron doubts it. He is sure his father would have wanted the best for his son, and Eron Hunter knows that his best is connected to Wrestling, it is connected to the success in the ring.
Life…
…What is it but a fragile moment of remaining breathless?
“I respect the heck out of you
Kasper Van Zant.”
The young man stands there. Behind him skies of blue and a sea of azure. The Horizon stretches ad infinitum as always. Eron Hunter has his back turned on all this and is looking forward, focused, and serious.
“You have had your highs and lows, in the wrestling ring, lately. More losses than wins, some would say, but in the end, you never gave up, never surrendered. And, that makes you a winner in my eyes, Girl. It is easy to be all good and feel great when everything is going according to plan. But a real fighter, a real warrior is seen when things start going wrong. When you suddenly start staring at the ceiling, laying on the mat, more times than you think you should.
It then and only then, that true character is shaped. Because a man, a human being, is not defined by the wins as much as he is defined by the way he or she handles his or her shortcomings. It is not how many people you TKO, it’s how you manage to stand up after being hit by a Hurricane. It is our losses that define who we are, and you Kasper Van Zant have managed to manage your shortcomings in a formidable way.
As I said, I have quite the respect for you.
But I do not have enough respect…
…To let you win!”
Eron crosses his arms on his chest and keeps on going.
“Something in me tells me you should be the victor of this match between us. Something tells me you deserve the crowning, the being a champion, after all, you’ve had to endure lately and generally. I respect your consistency and your resilience. You have been through a lot, but you never surrendered. And here you are, fighting me. Fighting the World Champion.
I must ask you for forgiveness, Kasper
For I am not strong
Not strong enough…
…To let you win!
I am a fighting Champion, I live for the adrenaline of the fight, and this? This is a Great Fight indeed. I would lose my self-respect if I somehow let you have your way in the ring. Thus, I can and want not to hold back. I can’t have you win this fight. What I can do is give you a great fight, a great challenge.
So, come, Kasper Van Zant
Do your best and I promise to do mine.”
Fade.
