‘...and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.’
The voice of Donzig purred, sweet and slick as the scene opened to an empty street littered with trash that blew in a dirty breeze.
No one moved among the wreckage and debris, and it moved in the wind before the scene shifted to a crumbling church.
‘A little less than three years ago, I walked into XHF. And I made all of you, all of you, a promise. Do you remember those promises? The words I spoke to you from Jerusalem? The words on the SWAT Easter show?’
The scene flipped to black and white, and the empty streets and crumbling buildings become rows of graves. Donzig sat among them, and his eyes gleamed under his hood.
‘I promised you that you had been chosen, you had been blessed, that you would all! All! Be my next victim, the next thing laid low by the hands of the Scourge! That I would drag you to tomorrow or throw you in your grave!’
Donzig leaned forward, rocking slightly as he rubbed his palms across his thighs. Goodness head tilting as he hissed.
‘That I would cast down your champions, that I would lay open the rot at the heart of this place! That all of your titles would be exposed as empty pieces of meaningless trash! That I would destroy your heroes, that I would reveal them for what they really are!
That they would become villains, that they would be shown for what they truly were! And I did these things! I showed all of you the dark miracle of my vengeance! The fruits of my ire!’
He rose slowly, and he walked between the rows of crumbling headstones and grave markers. His face hidden in his hood, but the bright white glare revealed he wore his mask. And a hand lifted absently.
‘One by one by one. I have shown you what they really are. The truth about them, how they are petty, how they are cruel, how they are base creatures serving only themselves! And you denied me! Me!
But I forgive you.’
A hand lifted, tapping a finger before it fell away.
‘But worst of all were the Pillars of XHF. They stood here, and claimed they were the most violent, the most extreme, that they loved this place! That it was about respect, it was about legacy, it was about honor.’
A pause, and Donzig snorted.
‘Bah. Fuck that, it we about them! Their pride, their greed, and their egos! And so they took their wins from me! They took their stolen wins! And they got the FUCK OUT OF DODGE! Because frankly they lacked the stomach for this game! They lost their heart for this war!
And they left all of you to me! They left all of you to your fate!
At my fucking hands! My judgment over you eternal and never ending!’
A pause, and Donzig turned to stare at the camera. His hand dragging over the ancient marbles and he shrugged.
‘Except one of them. One of them for reasons I will never understand, has continued to defy me! He has decided to set himself in my way time and time!
In fact, in fact, Spike Kane is so obsessed with me he hunted me beyond death! He dragged me back here! But that is fine, that is just fine! Because I have work to finish don’t I?’
Donzig stared, and he paced once more as his long leather coat swirled and snapped around him. His breath hissing from behind his mask, and he stared at the graves before he shrugged. He bent down, scooping up some dirt that he let fall from his hand as he watched it.
‘I understand Spike. You see you and all of these other legends, these false heroes, these champions of lies! These fake idols? All of you, all of you! Your roads lead back to me! They all bring you back to me!
You can lie to yourself, and retire! You can fuck off to CAR and pretend you’re still a wrestler! You can hide in JROK, and jump through Kira’s hoops!
Fuck! You can even go clown around HKW between commercials! But you all come back to me because I can give you what no one else can!’
His hand lifted to splay across his mask, and he jerked it off to expose his angry face. That savage snarl and cold eyes, and he tugged at his wild beard before he spat.
‘Destruction.
The peace of Oblivion!
The sweet quiet eternity of the Grave! And I will give it to you! I will fucking give it to you all! Because you see?
I will never know a minute’s rest until the XHF is mine! Until it is reborn in my image! Until all of you are like me! You what to know the legacy of the greats of the XHF? The legacy of the Pillars of Violence? Of these men who made XHF in their image?
It’s me! It’s fucking me! I am your legacy! I am the child of the Pillars, eh?’
A crazed smile crossed that face, though the eyes remained cold and dead. He tapped his fingers together, rubbing and twisting his hands as he leaned closer to the camera.
‘You see it was safe, Spike. The XHF was safe, I was gone, I had slipped between. Away. And all of you, all of you weaklings, all of your pretend heroes were safe.
But you didn’t let me go did you, Spike? You couldn’t let me rest! Your pride did this! You needed to prove something and so you had to have me back!
Well, old friend? Everything that happens now, everything that happens after this? It is on you! The blood is on your hands!
And you are not a fucking fool like some of these people, you know what I am! And you know as well as I do? There is going to be blood, Spike.’
Donzig smiled that nasty smile, and rose slowly to stare at the camera with those unblinking dead eyes. And he cackled that weird rasping laugh as he leaned closer.
‘I know where I went wrong last time, Spike. You see I killed you, I hit you in the street and left you for dead. That was my mistake.
People like us. Creatures like us. Things like you and I? We can not die. We can not be killed. We are ideas, Spike!
You can’t kill an idea.’
Donzig hissed.
‘When you scrape what your piece of shit brother leaves in the ring up, and you drag it to Dublin? I am not going to kill you, no, no, no.
I am going to cripple you, I am going to break you! I am going to beat you into a fucking coma! I will leave you like you left me between worlds!
And if you survive that? If you crawl out of Dublin in one piece? I will take the rest of you at the Rumble, Spike.
I am inevitable.’
Donzig spread his arms, and his coat snapped wildly as he turned in a slow circle around the graveyard before he paused to lean over a stone once more with a wild grin.
‘You see you are the last Pillar of Violence, the last Pillar of the XHF, and I can see the cracks, Spike.
You see, everyone wants to be a pillar, they want to hold a thing up, they want to enhance its glory, to be a part of the greater whole. To stand out and hold the rest up as a reflection of their own greatness.
But that’s not me, that could never be me. I am not that.
I am a monolith. I stand alone, eternal and unchanging. I hold up nothing, I support nothing, the only thing I proclaim is my own greatness! My own glory!
And all who walk beneath my shadow are reminded of that!
I am the symbol of my own triumph! I am a monument to my own glory! And you? You are in my shadow, Spike. The ghost of an age that might have been, and never fucking was! A shadow of a shadow!’
Donzig spat, leaning forward to drag the camera close so it just showed his terrible eyes. Head tilting as he smiled.
‘Spike, at Dublin? I am reborn.’
His hand covered the lenses, and darkness filled the void.
‘See you soon.’
And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.’
