[THERE ARE SPOILERS HERE...PROBABLY]
Okay I'm about to paraphrase a line in my Dune Part Two review. In 1984 months before Dune came out there was a wonderfully fun movie called Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd and Ivan Reitman and Ernie Hudson about three paranormal practitioners who get fired and become professional ghostbusters. It was a play on an old Disney short called Ghost Hunters and the old Three Stooges and the movie became an instant hit as was its sequel. Several years ago there was a reboot with women cast as the main roles but the ghosts weren't exactly scared of them and that version bombed. Then came Ghostbusters Afterlife with the next generation of Ghostbusters and once again both casts from the Ghostbusters movies team again in Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. This sequel involves an ancient evil god named Garahka being unleashed and where do you keep an imprisoned evil god. Well if you are a descendent of The Fire Bender....Yes you read right....and there are also four guardians....Guess who they are though it's obvious. Anyway, Spengler's daughter Rachel inadvertently unleashes a ghost whom she bonds with only realize later that ghost manipulated her into releasing Garahka. Adding to the Ghostbuster's headaches is Mayor Peck played with mean spiritedness by William Atherton closes their headquarters.....Great move Mr. Mayor the people will enjoy seeing your newest constituents terrorizing the city. Meanwhile Garakha strikes and The Ghostbusters combine and they come together to battle him in an epic battle which is enjoined by Nadeen played by Kumal Nianjani, whom was last seen as Black Manta's lackey in Aquaman The Lost Empire. The best part was the special effects especially when the Metropolitan Library Lion comes to life and The Ghostbusters chasing a bag of trash through the library and into the street and a flying spectral eel flying through the air while fleeing an Ecto drone. Yet the best effect was Garahka. There are bits and pieces of the previous Ghostbusters movies like the shutting down of The Ghostbusters, Slimer sliming the younger Spengler and there is even a scene where you get to see scenes from the original 1984 movie. I was laughing throughout this movie and I hope this franchise continues on. The cast was nothing short of fun especially Kumal Nianjani who played Nadeen is both charming and funny playing a con artist selling off his mother's possessions which includes the globe holding Garahka. This movie is definitely worth seeing. So who are you going to call for laughs.....GHOSTBUSTERS!
