He knew he shouldn't have clicked the hashtag. Social media is a dumpster fire; everyone knows that. This was just asking to get his feelings hurt. Maybe it was a masochistic streak. Maybe it was because he believed he needed pain, deserved it even.
Well okay, these first few weren't so bad. He'd have to be completely oblivious to not acknowledge how weird this whole situation was.
Ah, there was the sting. He had known that not everyone would forgive him. That was fair enough. He had said he was sorry, but words alone would never be enough to take back what he had done. Only actions could do that, and even then there was no guarantees. Not that he deserved any...
He felt the anger boiling up inside him. He hadn't made excuses! There were no excuses to make! Even with the influence that he had been under, the wearing down of his mind, he had owned his actions. The responsibility was his, however much it hurt. Seeing Armbishi's name there only made the hurt worse. There were nights who woke up crying, feeling the wet warmth of the blood on his hands.
Classy. Those didn't feel so bad, somehow. However much people prepared to tell him they wished he was dead hated him, they couldn't hate him any more than he hated himself.
And therein lay the rub: without the X*Crown, was he worth anything to anyone? Wrestling was all he had ever wanted to do, all he truly knew how to do. Without it, what was he?
There was a sigh from across the room.
Why are you looking at that shit?
Brendan walked over to Fox and closed the browser window on the laptop.
Figured I should see how I'm perceived by my formerly adoring public.
Ahuh, so you went to a site controlled by a man so utterly brainrotted he thinks 'cisgender' is a slur?
Fox shrugged. Brendan rolled his eyes.
Was your next plan to visit r/SCJerk? Maybe call up Jim Cornette and ask him for his thoughts?
Alright alright, point made.
Good.
Brendan hugged his husband from behind.
Walk the road you've chosen long enough and the doubting voices go away. Even if the road is as long and hard as this one.
Well, no-one ever said the road out of Hell was easy...
Fox leant his head on Brendan's arm, unable to see the look of deep thought that crossed his husband's face.
