Kalmin Watts is sitting in a director’s chair across from Warren Webber in the WUK studio. With Legacy coming up, all the WUK staff are doing their best to promote the show. Webber…well, Webber is doing his usual self-serving. He has a shit-eating grin as he looks at the producer. Once he gets the go ahead, Warren stares at the camera.
“I’m Warren Webber here with Kalmin Watts as he prepares to face Wesley Crane in a submission match at Legacy. Kalmin, thanks for your time.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Kalmin, this match, seemingly, has been made for you. It’s one-on-one and a submission match. Your main hold is the Sooner Squeeze, and it’s led to a lot of victories. A lot of people are saying you winning is a foregone conclusion. As a heavy favorite, how are you handling this?”
“Well, I’m the one wrestling the match, not the fans or the bettors. I’m glad people believe in me, but I’m not letting up until Crane taps out. I can promise you that he’s not giving up on this match regardless of what people say. He’s not going to make it easy for me to apply the Sooner Squeeze, but I will find a way. I’ve been dreaming of this match for six months. Through all the rehab and work after Crane tried to end my career, I’ve been focused on one thing: getting him in the ring. How’s he going to like it when someone tries to break him in half and end his career? How’s he going to like being in a hospital bed for weeks? How’s he going to like rebuilding his body because his muscle went away from being laid up after surgery? Let me tell you something, Warren: I hated it!”
The tension significantly increased. Webber shifts uncomfortably and avoids eye contact. Watts has been holding on to a lot of anger and is finally about to have catharsis. This isn’t a normal match; this is personal.
“Wesley Crane hasn’t had quite your passion in the preparation for this match. From what he’s chosen to show the world, he’s been partying with the High Rollers. He’s been celebrating the fact that the High Rollers now have the World Heavyweight Extreme Championship…of the World and the Commonwealth Title. Rarely have they been this strong. It seems like he’s treating this match as normal business. What do you make of that?”
“He’s lying! Wesley Crane knows that this is the biggest match of his career, regardless of whether he walks away or not! He can settle into being a fringe wrestler with the Extreme Title, or he can show that he’s still one of the best. For me, this is to show that I’m back and as good as I ever was. When I beat Crane, I will have beaten World Champions, Commonwealth Champions, Tag Champions, and Extreme Champions and run through the top group in WUK. My career will officially restart at Legacy!”
“What would be next once you settle the score with Wesley Crane? A rematch for his Extreme Title? Do you look at the World Title again?”
“My career is going to pick back up where I left off, which is being the WUK World Champion. Eron Hunter won the title by pinning Psychotic Goth in a three-way match. Kasper van Zant has never beaten me. If she wants to take the next step and be the true World Champion, that means she’ll need to face me. That’s the next big money match in WUK: the current champion vs. the lineal champion. It’s about making the WUK World Title whole again and moving forward while leaving people like Wesley Crane in the past.”
“That’d be a nice boxing/MMA build! The idea brought to you by Warren Webber, just in case the higher ups want to run with that. Anyway, why are you so convinced that Wesley Crane is in the past?”
“The only reason Wesley Crane had the World Title for so long was because he had no challengers. Once I stepped up and got an honest one-on-one match, I beat him. What has he done since last summer? He’s faded into the background! New talent came in, and he couldn’t measure it. I wasn’t a top star because I was injured. What’s his excuse? He doesn’t have one! His time has come and gone. He’s focused exclusively on WUK and still can’t be the man again. Even in the High Rollers, he’s been passed up by a tag wrestler going solo. Now he’s desperate to win the people over because he’s scared that they won’t see through him. It’s too late! The people know he’s going downhill. If he was still the best, he would have taken me out by himself. He needed to hire outside help to do it.”
“Big words from the former World Champion and lineal World Champion. We’ll see what happens at Legacy in Vegas!”
