Inside the old crumbling walls of an overgrown fortress, the walls covered in the lichen and wildly curling vines of the ages lit only by the flickering of flames. There in the ruined and blackened stones stood gathered beneath the light that fell through a broken stone window stood the inner circle of Donzig-gun.
The broken and worn statues of saints and angels looked down on them from amid the cracked and stained pillars. Donzig sat there, laying on that ancient abandoned altar was the XHF X-Crown title. The light danced across its golden surface as he looked down at it, the reflection of it distorted by his mask.
Sinclair stepped forward, and lifted hand as she smiled.
‘At last, you have taken what is yours by right. You have taken the X-Crown, XHF belongs to us now.’
Donzig said nothing.
Sinclair frowned, and looked back to the silently watching forms of Mormo and Moloch. She stepped closer, a brow lifting as she continued.
‘How does it feel to have victory in your hands! To lay all doubt to rest! To prove them all wrong.’
Donzig looked up, and his head tilted as his voice hissed forth.
‘I don’t feel anything.’
‘What?’
‘Nothing. I don’t feel anything. Nothing. This is a hollow crown.’
Sinclair looked to the minions once more, and she frowned again. They looked at each other concerned, and Donzig lifted his hand to let his fingers drag across the gleaming gold of the belt. His eyes narrowed behind the mask, and he shrugged.
Donzig reached out, and he lifted the title to look down at it as he held it across his hands.
‘All murder'd-for within the hollow crown
That rounds the mortal temples of a king
Keeps Death his court…’
‘What will we do now?’
Donzig turned to look at the Baroness, and he trapped the belt across his shoulder. His fingers curled into it, and he waved a hand as he stepped down from the altar to cross the broken and eroded stone of the church floor. The skies of France barely visible through the broken roof above, and he shrugged.
‘We have more worlds to conquer, Sinclair. I see that now, the Conquest will never end. War eternal must rage across this world of ash, and the Void is ever hungry. I will bring all champions to heel beneath me! I will force everyone to acknowledge the New God.
To accept I am their God now.’
He waved a hand, and the flames went out.
