THE YOUNG HOUSEHOLD Anaheim, California. The beautiful view of Anaheim has been a courtesy for Ryan to wake up to every single morning. The raining weather that pelted down and onto the doors toward the upstairs balcony, however, was not a courtesy to wake up to. This day felt like any other day, like how any other day has felt for over three whole years now, that plain and regular day for Ryan to continue onward with his life and a day for Ryan to continue his journey of providing for himself and for Selena - along with the newest addition to the family over the years, Lucy Amelia Matthews. Times have changed since Ryan ever showed his face to anyone publicly. The world has changed over the past three years since Ryan has had any involvement in the wrestling scene at all. A lot has happened, a lot has changed, a lot has come and gone from everything he knew. Ryan remained dressed in his dark, ripped skinny jeans and grey sleeveless sweatshirt with a hood — with his classic Kneestrikes by Moonlight design from almost four years ago — as he looked out the balcony window and onto the view of Anaheim itself. A lot has been running through his head over the past couple of months, over the past while as he looked out into the venture of professional wrestling once again. He never would’ve wanted to call this a ‘retirement’ by any means but it’s been so long, no nagging injuries that’s been holding him back, but the thought that he could never pick up from where he began again. That is what troubled him the most. As he watches the rain fall down onto the glass in front of him, he’s only left with his thoughts and what he can do to relieve that itch. There’s been a lot of choices over time, a lot of places with valuable reputation, but where will he go to relieve that itch? Where will he remain is a question he’ll need to answer very quickly before the time runs out. “Are you sure this is going to be a good idea for you?” A voice echoed from behind Ryan, standing at the doorway to the master bedroom was Selena, leaning against the door frame with a beaming smile along her face. She raised herself from the frame and slowly waltzed into the bedroom, stepping toward Ryan. “I know it’s been some time but...” Seemingly, she stopped herself for a second, wrapping her arms around Ryan and resting the side of her face along his back. “I thought maybe you wouldn’t need to worry about any of this wrestling thing anymore.” He let out a deep sigh, his eyes dropping down to look at the floor. “I know, I thought so too.” “What’s changed?” A question you could leave hanging in the air for a long time and in all of that time, you’ll never be able to find the best answer to this question, because there is no good answer to this question. At least, not good enough. There’s many reasons for Ryan to come back to wrestling again, the same reasons that anyone would want to return to what they once loved. He sought out a thrill once again, sought out the adrenaline rush, a feeling he’s not felt in a very long time. He needed something to feel again, something different than he’s become accustomed to in recent times. “Everything.” Selena lifted her head from his back, coming around to Ryan’s front and looking up to his eyes. “Everything? What exactly does everything entail?” “I left a lot of open doors unlocked, a lot of them opened up but never closed shut. A lot of chapters that I could’ve continued in my life but I never went ahead with beginning to write them, because I just couldn’t.” Ryan remained locked onto the view of the city ahead of him, shaking his head from side to side before a sigh escaped his lips. “But, our own lives changed for the better from those days. Married, a beautiful daughter to call our own, and the perfect lifestyle to live by.” His head slowly turned to glance down toward Selena, to her bright baby blue eyes that beamed brightly. “However, I want to correct some things that should’ve been. I left unfinished in what could’ve been, I can’t just let it all end on that question that’s always been running around my name for years now, Selena.” To him, that question has been haunting him for so long. From the very moment that he almost made it to the very finals of the Fired Up Tournament that year, it’s been the remaining question that has always followed him at every step of his career. She, however, knew exactly the question he meant. “What if...” The endless endings to that question will always follow Ryan for as long as he remains without closing his book entirely as he meant it to be ended, but can he go ahead and close that book himself? Can he pull himself together and do the right thing, for his own sake? Everything had a question to follow. It had been a very long time since there had been pressure applied onto the shoulders of Ryan, the kind of pressure that would make you crumble almost immediately. He could feel it coming almost immediately as the tears began to build up within the corner of his eyes, a quick blink forcing them to run down his cheek and into Selena’s line of sight as she looked up to her husband again. Her arms gently wrapped themselves around his neck, helping to pull him in closer for her to plant a kiss along his cheek and to help wipe that tear away with the sleeve to her sweatshirt. “Whatever it is you need to do,” she calmly exclaimed with a smile of hers that beamed with happiness. “I’m always there with you on it.” Again, another kiss landed on Ryan’s cheek as he pulled off a smile. Selena held onto him just a little bit longer before pulling herself away and having to leave the master bedroom to attend to their daughter in the other room, leaving Ryan to his own thoughts once again. His mind feels a little more clearer than before, like the weight had come off of his shoulders. The business was a dangerous one, leaving loved ones behind for a certain amount of time can be endangering, damaging, and it’ll be much different than before. Nobody would stand in his own corner this time around, if he were to come back to the ring. Yet, these are the sacrifices he must make. Ryan reached into his right-hand pocket and pulled his phone out, taking a deep breath before the sound of clicking was heard echoing in the room. The phone would be put toward his ear as that ringing sound can be heard, continuing on until it stopped all of a sudden and a voice came through on the other end. “Mr. Young, I had a feeling I’d hear back from you again.” The voice, to those who would know, sounded familiar. “I would assume this is about a few weeks time, correct?” Ryan seems to hesitate to answer the question at first, taking a deep breath as his eyes shut. “I’ll take the deal with you, let’s get moving on this.” There was a second of silence before the voice on the other end of the phone call could be heard again. “Perfection. I’ll see you in London.” |
