All my stuff is done in GIMP, it looks daunting at first but once you understand the concept of all different layers and shit, you can get very good results with very little experience. Never used photoshop so I can't speak for it, but since it's paid and GIMP is free then PS is most likely better. GIMP is still fantastic however.
Still can't cut to save my life but for 99% of characters google search is good for it

Found some helpful videos, I'm playing around now myself too so will update if I find any good ways of doing things, or just any tips/ tricks I learn. These are for Pixlr; Pixlr Avatar: youtu.be/I-wbGtzpl3IPixlr Signature: youtu.be/a3En4M96hvcThis is for GIMP; GIMP Signature: youtu.be/LeHdoQI8xMEGIMP Signature also: youtu.be/Bn9rCsJEROQJust from flicking through these videos and playing with the software too, I am starting to understand what is going on. Slightly. Kinda. But we'll all get there eventually, together! The Church of Hyperion is good to its followers!

Good post! See I'm no expert, most of mine it just two images on each other and a layer filter, which looks cool lol.

OMG Danny that is awful, you should just get out of here and never try again... Kidding dude, I haven't even gotten as far you yet. I'm still trying to understand what layers means. I'm comparing it to car wraps in Need for Speed, that's how clueless I am! Kudos on being the first one to actually make and apply a signature!

That's basically what a layer is Hyperion. They're basically an extra image or shape. If you have 4 layers for example, that's pictures you can move individually without moving the rest of the image.

I've tried to get Hyperion to make me a banner, but he refuses. He says I'm not worthy. Such BS.

Haha, the only banners I want to see are the ones with my house symbol on them, as you march into battle for me.
And you can thank Kuroi for my sweet-as signature. It took approximately three comedy RP's before he was willing to give up the goods.

Yeah it's a kickass sig to be fair.
Hadn't thought about blending into the forum background before. Nice idea!

Does the purple "smoke" on your sig come as part of the background? It would look pretty cool with just the purple, the text and the picture of him if you wanted to go for a "blended into the background" look
