*We are shown a shot of AWF backstage interviewer Charles Akiyama standing in front of a large banner, covered with logos: AWF Prestige, XHF End Of Days, BANG Fish Attractant spray...*
*Charles is situated next to Gorilla position, microphone in hand, and through the curtain we hear the roar of the crowd as the third night of the End Of Days tournament is in full swing.*
Akiyama: Hello ladies and gentlemen, I'm Charles Akiyama and I am proud to be able to bring you this EXCLUSIVE interview for XHF Network's online subscription service - just moments ago we saw AWF Champion Jackson Steele battle veteran star Michael Storm, with the young lion coming out on top of this contest and he will go on to face another XFH Legend - Scorpion - in the next round of the competition!
*The camera pans out slowly and reveals that Jackson Steele is standing next to Charles - red-faced and sweaty, having not long come back through the curtain following his grueling match with Storm. He carries the AWF Championship over his shoulder and his chest and shoulders heave up and down as he gets his breath back.*
Akiyama: Joining me now is that very man, Jackson-
*Jackson holds up a hand to interrupt Akiyama.*
Steele: Now let me just stop you there, Charlie - I wanna get something off my chest first.
*He pauses for a few more deep breaths.*
Steele: Storm - you gave me a hell of a match. You know at times I thought I was done for but if there's one thing Jackson Steele is known for, it's longevity, baby! There's been a lot of bad blood between us recently thanks to a little... misunderstanding... but I just want you to know - I respect you. I respect you, I respect everything you have accomplished in this industry, and I can only hope that one day people will look back on my career the same way they look at yours - the sort of career that separates just another wrestler, from someone worthy of the moniker "Legend." I would be honored to step into the ring with you one day, and maybe - maybe - there'll be something else at stake to keep us both sharp, on top of our game and putting on the best possible show for the fans.
*Jackson perhaps drops a little hint as he moves his left shoulder around, showing off the AWF Championship.*
Steele: Now, while we're on the subject of legends - I spot a pattern emerging in this competition. Curtis Kanyon. Michael Storm. And now, Scorpion. It looks like Jackson Steele's wrestling career is going much the same way as his movie career - and by THAT I mean; I'm attracting ALL the BIGGEST guns!
*Akiyama wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't ask questions, and he interjects.*
Akiyama: Jackson, you have never faced Scorpion before but I seem to recall that on my first "Talking Drama" segment, you named Scorpion as somebody that you were hoping to meet in the ring one day. Now that match is just one week away, are you still in the same mindset? Or are you having any reservations about going up against yet another veteran?
*Jackson smiles.*
Steele: Look, Charlie. When I first started out, there were a whole TON of reservations. There were more reservations than a fully-booked restaurant in Hopi territory. It seemed like every week this gig was getting harder. Now - it feels exactly the opposite. Every time I get into that ring my confidence grows more and more... I'm not just defeating no-name jobbers, or fly-by-nights who flit in for a big payday and then are never heard from again. I've put away some of the biggest names that this company has ever seen. So, to answer your question... reservations? Nuh-uh. Not any more.
Akiyama: So you're confident that you'll be able to beat Scorpion next Sunday night?
Steele: Does the Pope shit in the woods?
Akiyama: I... uh... n-
Steele: Of course I'm confident! I'm the AWF Champion, and you all know how I won this title - I bested three other guys in a tournament just like this one. The first thing I ever did in wrestling was become the World Heavyweight Champion. And I'm only getting better. You don't win titles like this by being second-best. Just ask Scorpion. He's done it all and won it all, one of the biggest names to grace the squared circle...
But so were the guys I've already beaten.
*Akiyama nods. Steele directly addresses the camera.*
Steele: Now Scorpion, I'm gonna level with you. I respect you. I admire you. Hell, if we went out for a beer I'd probably say I liked you too. So don't take this the wrong way, but for all the respect and admiration I have for you, I'm not scared of you. I know that just like Kanyon and Storm, you want to win this tournament to show the world that you still got what it takes, that the old-guard of the XHF can still hang with the new blood.
And I don't doubt that one bit. I think you can still hang with the kids. But this kid right here-
*He points both thumbs back at himself.*
Steele: -ain't just no ordinary kid! Just as much as you want to prove the old guard are still relevant, I'm here to prove that this is my time now! And I'm gonna do it in a way that you're sure to understand... Beatles songs! Tonight we're in sweet Virginia but next week it's Kalamazoo, Michigan - and just like the old song says; "I've Got A Gal In Kalamazoo" - well let me tell you buddy, I'll be the one getting my rocks off with a little T&A while you're just screaming "Gimme shelter!"
*Akiyama realizes Jackson's error, and pipes up;*
Akiyama: Uh, Jackson, those aren't-
*Jackson shoots him a glare.*
Steele: Hey, don't break my flow! Everyone knows when Jackson Steele starts flowin' you get the hell outta the way if you don't wanna get hit by an avalanche!
Akiyama: I was just saying that those-
*Jackson doesn't listen. He shoves Akiyama out of shot and carries on addressing Scorpion.*
Steele: Scorpion I know you wanna win this tournament more than anything else but you can't always get what you want! You like to paint your face black and white but I suggest you skip the white, just paint it black and hide in the shadows and hope you don't get caught by jumpin' Jack(son) Flash!
So Scorpion, like I said - I can't wait to finally meet ya, but you're set to find out, when you start me up not even wild horses can slow me down! But it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom - even if you do find yourself under my thumb you can rest assured that you got beat fair and square by a street fightin' man and there ain't no shame in that!
Look I hate to keep on banging on about the "age" thing but time is on my side Scorpion. Sunday night - you'll be telling yourself it's all over now as I take my place in the End Of Days final, and there's nothing gonna stop me doing that... you'll find out that I CAN get me some... satisfaction.
*Jackson mimes a mic drop, as he walks away from the interview area. Akiyama sidles back into view as he wraps up...*
Akiyama: Uh... a very confident-sounding Jackson Steele, ladies and gentlemen. Sending a message loud and clear to Scorpion - although this one apparently penned by Mick Jagger...
*Fade to black.*
