Biography |
Pedro Benevides is a former wrestler who quit wrestling for no reason at all. He was the creative mind behind one of the biggest wrestling companies in Portugal. He turned heel in 2010 when he created his own wrestling company. Benevides was born in one of the islands of the Azores archipelago, Ilha Terceira. His family didn't have much, he had 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Most of them are in jail. Despite not being the older one Benevides always had a creative mind for business and his ideas always brought bread to put over the table. One time he stole all the flyers announcing the island festive party and sold them to the residents as an "entry ticket!". But there weren't always schemes in order to win money for his family and only the US-Marines - who often came into the United States military located in the island - were the ones who gave food and dollars to them if they would entertain them when they were drunk. Benevides alongside his brothers set up his first wrestling show at the military base and the drunk US-Marines really enjoyed watching the kids bashing each other, FOR REAL! A US-Marine asked who put all this together and this was the beginning of Benevides wrestling career. That Marine, in particular, was involved with the wrestling business - that was quite popular in the United States - and saw something in this young boy. He promised Benevides he would adopt him. At the age of 11, after all the legal procedures, Benevides left his family and went to the United States. Everything was given to him in order to become a wrestler but his dreams always were heading a promotion. His adoptive father gave him all the tools he needed to learn everything about the business and he was trained at one of the best wrestling academies in the United States. But this wasn't his home and Benevides knew it. As soon as he could, he came back to Portugal, bringing everything he has learned to the small wrestling community in Portugal. It was no surprise that Benevides would be signed by VWW. He started as BomberBen over there, quite charismatic and resilient he was the most known "Underdog" in the country, given his small size he was always being beaten and thrown around the ring for several minutes. He just won a single match in his career and it was an opener against the company champion, César Viegas. This was a shock for the industry and as soon Benevides felt the power of being champion he turned heel and pulled off several schemes in order to not defend his title and when he had to he would use a dirty tactic to maintain the title. 1 Year later, Benevides would turn is back to VWW and he walked out as soon as he lost his title after a change in the company's management. His goal was clear. To take VWW out of the scene and he has done it. After he left he took several members of the roster with him and start promoting his own shows, creating the best company in the history of Portuguese wrestling. He assumed a non-wrestler role and trained several wrestlers including his son, Pedro Benevides Jr. These were the glory days of Benevides and Portuguese wrestling but the company went broke. Benevides stated he had nothing to do with that, that the banks and Portuguese political system took everything out of him, but he was always a heel in this company and always called the events the Pedro Benevides's show in a very self-centered manner, so people don't believe a single word that comes out of his mouth. For 5 years there were no reports of Pedro Benevides, some said he went to rehab, others said he faced a depression, but he never spoke to the media again. Some say he was in telemarketing business as a salesman... Until now! A new journey starts for Pedro Benevides with the announcement of the EWE and he looks very determined to build his show again. |
