Episode 3 - A Trip To Belgium (Part 1)
So I'm a little late with this episode, about three days late or so? I was planning on posting this on Sunday, then I went to the pub, and I found this...
...Which resulted in about five of these...
So yes, I was slightly distracted, and then I bought more beer and watched the Superbowl. It meant I neglected this for a few days and for that I AM SORRY. However I'm sure you'll all forgive me, and in an attempt to make it up to you, a mini review of the Prophecy...it was bloody good, I will be drinking it again, and a solid 8/10 but only because I'm not sure the pub were keeping it very well.
So onto this weeks planned show. I've been seeing a few mentions of Belgian beer lately, so I decided to give a couple bottles a go. Having never really played in the Belgian beer game before, I decided that I'll do this maybe once a month until I either get bored of it or don't like the stuff. My only real experience with Belgian beer came over Christmas, my brother-in-law brought me back a very nice glass and large bottle of Brugge Tripel, and it was bloody lovely, not what I was expecting and with a volume of around 8%. So, armed with the aforementioned glass I got straight into...
Beer 1: Leffe (Nectar)
Volume: 5.5%
Brewery: InBev
Brewery Location: Belgium
I had three types of Leffe to choose from, but opted for the Nectar, the idea of it being infused with honey intrigued me enough to grab it over the others. Unfortunately though I came to regret my decision. The beer was far too sweet. It made it quite hard to drink and given that it was a big bottle made it feel like hard work. The immediate taste was good, crisp as well, but then the honey, well it was like I was actually just drinking honey with added sugars. Given that the beer itself was quite well put together, it makes me want to try the other two on offer, but this was a bit too much for me.
Would I have it again? No, no thank you.
Score: 3/10, as I said the beer itself was okay, but it took me almost an hour to drink.
Beer 2: Blue Moon
Volume: 5.4%
Brewery: Blue Moon Brewery
Brewery Location: Denver, Colorado
I can hear Hype celebrating at something he actually recognises from here. I decided to go for Blue Moon because it had been something mentioned on Discord a couple of times, so thought I'd see what the fuss is about. Turns out it was pretty good, given how it looked I was really expecting a heavier beer, but it was really quite nice. I didn't get the flavours it said it had, but it certainly was a clean, refreshing beer, it wasn't out of this world, but it was a pretty enjoyable beer, especially for a change. Just a shame that I couldn't get this in bigger bottles as I'd happily had more!
Would I have it again? Yes, and I'll be looking out for this in the states as its allegedly on tap more regularly.
Score: 7/10, a solid, enjoyable beer.
So there you have it, a slightly rushed episode, hopefully this weekends edition will be slightly better, though I am as yet deciding what theme to take. As always suggestions are welcomed, and happy drinking!
