So I guess this is what it has come down too hasn’t it?!
I know this match might be listed as a second chance saloon but to be honest this is going to be my first chance and when it comes to competing in Combat wrestling this match seems to be the most important to me. Not because it has anything to do with getting the chance to compete for a championship and moving further on in this tournament season.
I think that should be a given especially considering everyone is all gunning for the right to break out of their shell. Everybody is looking to move ahead so they can prove that they belong here and they have what it takes to be a champion. While that may be a great thing in itself the reason why this match means so much to me is because I get to deliver a very crucial first impression.
As we all know first impressions are everything in the wrestling business. It’s what separates the fan favorites from the people you all loathe. It’s what makes or breaks an individual and to be honest for me this first chance to prove myself means everything to me.
It’s a chance to climb to the very top but it’s also a chance to really put my all into something and showcase to the entire world that I have what it takes to ascend to the very top of the mountain once again. At the age of 31 I just want to know that I didn’t leave anything behind.
I know my name may not be the name that it was about ten years ago. It’s a case of what could have been, what should have been, and unfulfilled potential. I want to break out of that cycle and be the wrestler that I know I can be.
I honestly just want to do my very best and not have any regrets about what I am going to do within that ring. It’s truly funny how much the world can change in a span of about 7 years. Within the past seven years I have held two World Championships. One of them being in NCW where I had to work my ass into climbing all the way to the top.
It’s a mystery how I managed to pull it off but somehow and someway I managed to get there. It all started with me walking into a match known as the Riot. Where thirty men all entered into the ring with the intention to outlast everyone to gain themselves a shot at a World Championship.
Do you know how draining it was for me to enter the ring at number six and last all the way through and eventually win the match? I don’t know how I managed to do it but I somehow ended up doing the unthinkable. I made it to the very end and not only did I make it to the end but I won the match.
I positioned myself to step into the ring with my unbeaten best friend Xander and I wrestled to a draw. It was the closest anyone had gotten to beating him and the very next month after that I accomplished my dream. I won the World Championship and from there it was about being the best champion that I possibly could be.
My reign was short lived but at least I had it in me to make it to the top of the mountain and if I did so on one occasion what’s to really stop me from doing it again?
My own doubts really. That’s really the only thing and as I look at this match that I am booked in I feel like I am in a very familiar situation. I am walking into a match where I have the chance to compete for something I really want. If I can outlast 29 other men and win a match such as the Riot what’s to really stop me from outlasting five other individuals and winning a simple over the top battle royal?!
Nothing can stop me and I feel like I have all of the tools to really fight for what I believe in and win. The winner of this match won’t be the best wrestler in the ring. I don’t give a damn if you spent an eternity training in Russian, or in Japan, or Australia, or even in the UK. It honestly doesn’t matter what kind of background you have because being the best wrestler really doesn’t matter.
The winner of this match is going to be the man that knows how to be a survivor. It’s going to be the person who has the tools to have the endurance and of course the IQ to do whatever it takes to make it to the very end and at the end of the day after how much I have put into the wrestling business. After how much I have been in matches such as this I think I am the man for the job.
I know there are five other guys in this match with me. For some guys things didn’t really go that well in the first round of the tournament. For some reason or another they fell short, and now they find themselves with their backs against the wall in a must win situation. For some others this is about presenting a great debut just like it is for me. They are looking to have a great time and want to showcase their ability to the world.
Whatever it is that you are fighting for I just want to say to give it your very best and I want everyone to succeed. Nobody should feel a lack of confidence that they don’t have it anymore.
Hell if that was the case with me I wouldn’t be standing right here. I wouldn’t be entering into this company let alone a match but I am not afraid. I know I am not defined by the actions of my past but I can be identified by what I do in the present, what I can do in the future. What I want is to showcase that all of my dreams can become a reality and it’s a step by step process.
I know change won’t come overnight and honestly I am not asking for that either. I just want to keep pouring my heart into something I really love and that’s doing what I can for all of the fans that support me.
As it currently stands I am a family man again. I have a beautiful wife who is trying to mimic what I did in the past. I have a beautiful daughter who is growing up. I have a lot of people who are looking at me to see what I plan to do. If there is one message that I could give to my family it’s to never give up.
When the going gets tough it’s time to persevere. It’s time to keep pushing, and it’s time to tell the world to shove it because we should live to prove the naysayers wrong. I am ready to go through this process of redemption. I am ready to give my entire all for this cause and there’s no looking back.
I am all in at this point and no matter the result of this match I won’t ever stop. I won’t ever look back. I just need to keep moving ahead because I know there’s something waiting for me at the end of the day. Professional wrestling are you really ready to handle the return of the biggest dreamer to ever grace a ring?
Are you ready to see how much I put into making my dreams become a reality? This is what it’s all about and I can’t wait to go all in for a great cause. To the other men in this match I wish you the best of luck but let it be known this is my story. This is my dream and nothing will stop me.
The dream lives on and I will fight another day. This story has only begun so strap up because it’s going to be a hell of a ride.
Good luck and may the best man win.
Bronx, New York
For Todd Williams wrestling meant everything. He could have trained in his very own gym but he didn’t want to get caught up in training in California. He went back to his roots. He found himself back in a rundown gym in the Bronx. It was where it had all begun for him. He smiled as he walked through the doors of what could be best described as Jake’s Gym. Todd was clad in a pair of basketball shorts and a tank top. It was quiet and it’s just how Todd liked it as he started to walk over to a pull up bar. As soon as he did that’s when a voice had called out to him.
“I’ll be damned… If it isn’t Todd Williams! I didn’t take you as the type of man that would come back to a dump like this…”
That voice came from the owner of the gym Jake. Todd couldn’t help but grin as he turned his attention back over to Jake.
“I know but it’s where I can really focus on what I need to do. This is where it all begun for me Jake and you know this place holds a lot of memories for me…”
Jake and Todd had gone way back. When Todd was first getting into the wrestling business Jake would let Todd train his heart out in the gym and Todd would go all. However with Todd taking over his father’s “business” among marrying Crystal and traveling all around the world. Whenever Todd was close to New York he made sure to stay far away from the Bronx. He mostly stayed in Manhattan in his penthouse suite. So it was rare to see Todd back in the ghetto. Todd looked at the man with a chuckle as Jake sighed back at him.
“So how’s the business going Todd? You get arrested yet?!”
Todd gave him a look as he winked back at him.
“As if I would ever get caught, please I am the owner you know I have runners doing everything I need them to do. I just get to sit and collect the big money. Get my hands dirty now and then when it’s really required…”
Jake laughs as shakes his head.
“You are just like your father.”
“Don’t you ever compare me to Roman. I hate that fucking man! Because of him I had to get sent to live with my grandparents in Detroit. He didn’t want anything to do with me, and he put Jenny and I against each other!”
Jake slowly nods his head.
“But at least in Detroit that’s where you met Crystal. That’s where you fathered a child granted at a young age but it helped shape you to the man that you are today. “
“And to be honest Jake if I could do it all again I probably would…”
Jake walks over towards Todd and smirks at him.
“You miss Crystal don’t you?!”
Todd stands there dumbfounded as he just shakes his head back at him.
“Stop man… You know I am a married man again. Got me a nice white woman!”
“YOU GOTTA LET ME SAY IT!!!” Jake smiles in return.
Todd rolls his eyes as he seems confused. “Say what exactly?!”
Jake takes a long deep breath as he screams at the top of his lungs. “WHERE’S THE WHITE WOMEN AT?!”
Todd just rolls his eyes sighing in return. “Look it’s not even like that. I love Kim… She’s everything to me right now and we are actually trying for a child… But as far as Crystal goes….”
Todd takes a breather as Jake smiles in return. “I knew it!”
Todd just shakes his head glaring deeply into the eyes of his old friend. “I won’t ever forget her. You don’t ever forget your first love but it is what it is. No matter what she is the mother of my child and I have respect for her. But right now I am focused on doing what I need to do in order to really compete out there. You going to help me focused and get me to where I need to be?!”
Jake gives Todd a raised eyebrow as he smiles. “What kind of question is that?! You know I will. Let’s do this. Let’s start with the jump rope and I will decide what we do after that…”
Todd smiles as he looks back at Jake. It was going to be a great night and it felt great to really do what he loved doing the most. It was time to get back to the basics. It was time to go out there and…. MEAN BUSINESS!
