“This is disappointing.”
“Do we get a chance to perform on the first pay per view? Sort of. Not even just one on one but with all of us just thrown in a match and hoping no one complains? This is terrible. No, I mean it. Absolutely terrible. I know this division is small. I get you have to work with what you are handed.”
“Just you would think there would be something better to do with the only other women’s match on the card then shove all of us into one match. The men at least got split into two matches outside of the championship match. Two! We are all shoved into one.”
“But I work with what I am given.”
“What I am given is not much to write home about but I guess there is not much to be done about that. So here I am to defeat the dregs of what is left of the women’s division here.”
“When I said Kimberly was not worth my time? I meant that. None of these women are. Except perhaps Dawn and Amber but I will get back to them before too long. It will only be a matter of time.”
“He didn’t!” Tiffany laughed so hard she nearly fell out of her chair.
“He recorded it for me,” Gwen admitted, smiling at the camera on her laptop. “Want me to send it to you?”
“I could use the mood boost, to be honest.” Tiffany sighed. "Carter wants me to invite at least Penny. I really don't want to deal with her pressuring me to invite him."
“That’s because she’s very firmly trying to be his favorite.” Gwen waved it off. “He’s a terrible father.”
“Here’s to that.” Tiffany raised a wine glass to the screen which Gwen mimicked taking a sip.
“So. You and Carter sending them an announcement to avoid the fight?” Gwen asked casually.
“What for?” Tiffany asked.
“Could at least get a gift,” Gwen suggested.
“I don’t want to remind him I exist. I don’t want him to use my family as a part of his campaign to show what a good candidate he is. How moderate. Use my wedding as a political stop. ‘See how not racist I am with allowing my daughter to marry this guy’. I’d rather die than let him use my wedding that way.”
“He’ll say it anyways when he finds out,” Gwen advised.
“I’d rather he get cornered.” Tiffany shrugged.
Gwen sipped her wine and considered how to bring the question up, “You two have been together for… what? Three years in April?”
“I asked him not to propose until I was financially stable, you know?”
“He listened?” Gwen smiled.
“He waited until I started getting credit card offers in the mail.” Tiffany smiled affectionately. “I mean, the pastry chef gig isn’t the most financially secure career but here we are.”
“That’s sweet.” Gwen smiled. “Where are you going to get married?”
“Honestly? I have no idea. I mean, it might be cheaper to just do the courthouse.”
“I was going to suggest that, to be honest.”
“Really?”
“It’s what Ethan and I did. Admittedly it was in Japan so it’s a little different.”
“I just expected you to offer me money.”
“Do you want money?”
“No. Just expected you too. I had a whole speech prepared to say no. It was very good. I have index cards.” Tiffany grinned.
“Oh, I’m wounded. When have I ever tried to push money on you?”
“Carter told me you helped pay for the ring.”
“…Alright, I did do that.” Gwen admitted. “He wanted to get you a very specific ring. I thought it was sweet.”
“I was honestly surprised he found a Harley Quinn ring.” Tiffany looked at it fondly.
“You should see the matching wedding rings.”
“You didn’t!”
“You’re my little sister. How could I not want you to be as happy as possible? With our childhood, you deserve the best. I’m glad Carter is giving that to you.”
“Favorite sister?” Tiffany smirked.
“Always.”
“Where do I even start with the women in this match? I mean, really?”
“I suppose I will start with Caitlyn Wright.”
“Just soo happy to be here. You have that pesky enthusiasm that is hard to fake. You are a nerd and have likely wanted nothing but this your whole life, huh? Must be hard trying to withstand all the garbage that has been piled on you through all these older women telling you do not belong here.”
“I almost feel sorry for you. The way one does for the last dog in those ‘free to a good home’ ads. The sad animals they flash on advertisements to convince you to go vegan. Kick the puppy or not to kick the puppy?”
She smirks. “I always kick the puppy.”
“The hard truth of the matter, Caitlyn is you are not ready for this kind of business. You are the type of girl who showed up with a pink hair and glitter to the apocalypse. You are in over your head. Maybe in time you can get there but now is not that time. You’re too sweet to survive this cutthroat industry. Get out now and you’ll thank me later.”
“Next we have Crystal Hilton? A failed movie start trying to make a comeback? It would almost be hilarious if it was not so pathetic.”
“You do not get to call yourself a movie star. Not unless you have been in anything recently. You are working on two wrestling promotions, are you not? Either something is falling through the cracks or you put in such a terrible performance in everything you do that it barely counts. You think betraying someone you call a friend makes you somehow interesting?”
“It makes you forgettable, Crystal. Maybe try focusing on something instead of pandering to everyone at once. Oh, you can call what you are doing to be living your true self, but it is obvious to everyone that you are fake. There is not a single thing you care about or have anyone you would not use to achieve your goals right? Everyone is disposable to you. Narcissistic and not even good at any of the things you desire to be. Pathetic.”
“Zelda? A cosplayer? Am I meant to take a cosplayer seriously? At least I can judge Caitlyn Wright by being a child but you? At your age? Who are you even kidding? You are not a hero. You do not get to hide behind being a nerd to appear the good person. The fact you even think that works in this day and age is sad.”
“Embarrassing. Absolutely embarrassing. You are meant to be this great and powerful force. This woman who has done all of these things. So great. Someone people are meant to look up to. You can’t even be that, can you? You are no better than those twenty-something girls who sign up to be the Disney Princess at a park. You are empty. Shallow. A hollow shell of whatever you were meant to be.”
“Oh, should I use a geek reference to make that clearer? Kingdom heart, when someone who was strong-willed who lost their heart? You’re a nobody. Because you are a splintered, upside-down version of whoever you were that people liked. You are plastic and useless.”
“And last but certainly least. Lizzy Dalmon. Boring. What is there even to say? She has money? I have money. That is what she rides on, is it not?”
“Lizzy is rich and like some forgotten 90’s movie, she thinks that gives her personality. It’s laughable. Her skills are mediocre at best. You would think with the money and how much her daddy spends for her to make something of herself she would at least be better at it.”
“But you are nothing. Take away the money and what is there to talk about? Your lackluster personality?”
“There are of course the rumors. Oh, I know your family. I know the whispers and the gossip. How close you are with your brother. Tell me something, Lizzy? Is it true? Do the two of you really play hide and go fuck hoping your daddy’s money can hide anyone from even daring to whisper it?”
“Whoops.”
“You know the best way to make sure a rumor makes it around all the high-class functions? Paying people off not to talk about it.”
“So those are the women I’m fighting. The kicked puppy. The failed star. The nobody. And the brother fucker. The poor display really but I work with what I’m given.”
“I’m going to win this match. Then I’m going after the belt. Regardless of whoever wins it, they are nothing more than a belt warmer for me. Like someone with no purpose beyond tasting the food for the queen in case of poison. Once I see it doesn’t kill you? I’m kicking you away from the big girl’s table.”
“Do we get a chance to perform on the first pay per view? Sort of. Not even just one on one but with all of us just thrown in a match and hoping no one complains? This is terrible. No, I mean it. Absolutely terrible. I know this division is small. I get you have to work with what you are handed.”
