"Combat Wrestling, how are you doing? Good? Good."
The scene opens on Mercedes Vargas, the newest signee to the Combat Wrestling roster, with a smug look on her face. She's standing just outside of Cheers Beacon Hill, the iconic bar/restaurant located on Beacon Street in the Beacon Hill neighborhood and the iconic location of where the Cheers sitcom was filmed during its run from the early 80s -90s. The Argentine has a clipboard in hand, which she tucks underneath her arm, at least for the moment.
"You know, being the new girl and all, I kinda had second thoughts about signing here at first, but after looking at the roster I think I'm going to be and do just fine. Noticed some familiar faces, they know who they are, and one particular name that I just love facing again and again. But never mind that..."
Mercedes gives the camera a dismissive wave of her hand, the excitement in her voice remains as she continues.
"My debut happens tomorrow night and I'm facing Lizzy Damon. I've been on pins and needles the last two weeks for this match, but I can't say I've faced Lizzy before..."
She brings a hand to her chin and looks thoughtful for a moment. Perhaps her opponent did ring a bell. Mercedes quickly snaps her fingers and points at the camera.
"Oh yeah, I think I remember you in Imperial. Of course, by then I had already left there some, what, two years ago?"
She pauses for a second, then again snaps her fingers.
"Yeah, two years ago. Had some fond memories of IWF. Good times, and bad too. But that's another story for another day. Today, I'm starting a brand new chapter in my career, and you get to be apart of it. Won't that be fun?
"I don't know what it is about Boston. Maybe it's because the city bleeds green and white, showing their Celtic Pride or because their pro football team always find themselves in the Super Bowl year after year. Maybe it's the people. Sure, they get a bad rap, but Philly takes the cake. Or maybe, just maybe, I'm looking forward to my seventh visit here where I've only lost just twice in my career."
Mercedes breathes in and out.
"Boston, my kind of town. A city of champions, like, well, me. 20 times over. Like I said, I'm new to Combat, but for those who know me, you already know what I can do and what I bring to the table. For those of you who don't, like you, Thin Lizzy, you're about to find out."
Mercedes now takes her clipboard and presents it to the camera. Lizzy's name is written in cursive in felt-tip marker.
"I may not be headlining the show. I may not be in the main event, I may not be one of the top stars here, yet, but I can promise you that I'm making the opening match worth the price of admission. It's up to everyone else to try and top it."
Mercedes tucks her checklist under her arm again, then starts rubbing her hands expectantly.
"So, Lizzy, I'll see you tomorrow night for Fury."
A pause is met as she starts speaking in Spanish
"Estar preparado para lo peor, esperar lo mejor."
"Prepare for the worst, hope for the best."
“Y que la suerte está siempre en su favor.”
"And may the odds be ever in your favor."
