Two for three and this time, the celebration was a little more raucous, most of Clint’s bar had turned up and the music thudded as Kyle laughed and glass met glass.
Clint was being a host and Kyle had now an abundance of people rousing around him, but there was one man who sat opposite him that wasn’t so much a source of trouble but nut currently a friendly reminder of cold hard facts.
Uncle Jesse gestured Kyle to sit down even as he smiled.
“These folk are like the wind Kyle, they’ll hang around you and toast you but I dun think they’ll be there when you fall, you here?”
Kyle raised his brow and took a swig of his drink even as Clint was sideling up to put another shot down for Jesse.
“When I fall? Oh ye of little faith.”
Jesse sighs and huffs his breath.
“Boy I swear you’re dumber than a bag of hammers. It’s a fact boy eventually it’s gonna stop and yer gonna lose again, it’s not case of ability or talent it’s just life Goddamn it!”
Kyle’s smile twitched even as Clint said it.
“He’s aware o’ that Jesse, jus’ let the boy celebrate a lil’ he’ll be back to trainin’’ bright an’ early I promise.”
Jesse smirks a bit at that salutes with his glass of scotch and drains the tumbler in one smooth drink, standing as he wanders out.
“You better Clint, ‘m trustin’ you.”
Clint shook his head and nudged Kyle’s shoulder.
“Chin up Outlaw, Bad man’s gone.”
Kyle shook his head and smirk.
“Bad as he is, he’s right Clint. It’s the way the business works, can’t win ‘m all right? Don’ worry I ain’t gonna get all dust devil on yas.”
Clint chuckles and leans up to Kyle and nudges him suggestively looking at him wiht those big baby blues.
“I hope not Kyle, I’m getting used to the sight of you.”
Kyle blinked at that and looked at Clint who just winked and stood up to go tend bar and Kyle looked away looking at his drink and he felt the warmth of a blush and whiskey mingle in a hot fireball even as he gripped the glass.
Had Clint just flirted with him?
He started to breathe a little harder even as nerves gripped him and he headed out side to get some cooler air.
“Jesus Christ, th’ hell do I do now?”
Kyle decided to head home for now, heading up the fire escape past the party and to reflect, he’d go bright and early as promised but right now? He needed space and time.
The camera fades in on Kyle as his smile lights up the screen and he peers into the camera hat on his head and a twinkle in his eyes.
“Howdy there and it’s time to roll! Somebody up there must like me because I’m set for a shot at the Dauntless Championship!”
He wrinkles his nose and straightens to the camera.
“And this week it’s Th’ Polysnesian Prodigy the Choo Hoo warrior, and current Dauntless champion Taane I’m facing’ off against now there’s no doubt this boy is as tough as they come but the reckoning is that me an’ him are gonna rumble and it’s gonna be good.”
He leans forwards.
“But I’m gonna beat your ass, I gotta beat your ass. it’s not a warrior thing, it’s not a culture thing it just the business, I mean you think you got a special right to walk around like you’re a goddamn billy bad ass? You proved your worth you got your belt.”
He gives the applause.
“But I still think you need your ass humblin’ a little so that’s what I aim to do this week, title win or not I aim to humble your ass.”
He smirks and strokes at his chin.
“And I really hope you don’t make it easy, I really hope you fight as hard as I think you will boy, because a Lariat to your thick head will dump you down as much as anyone else.”
He shook his head and smiled.
“You see boy, I’m not just a ‘dumb huck as I reckon you’ ll say I’m a bonefide son-of a-bitch and I’m comin’ for you, for your belt and nothing short of being knocked out I s gonna stop me, if you manage that? I reckon you’ve earned it.”
He grins all the wider at that.
“But I’m not gonna make it easy for you partner, not one bit. Come the thirtieth? Is me an’ you and only one of us stands tall and I’m reckonin’ it to me So Choo hoo that.”
He salutes the air again and smirks.
“Happy trails.”
He looks about read to turn away before he stops and pauses.
“No..”
He turns back to the camera slowly and smiles again.
“You may be Born to do this kid, But so am I, only one of us really walks away, head held high partner, only one. No muss , no fuss you hear that boy?”
He salutes again.
“I guarantee you will.”
