The atmosphere inside the Legacy Arena is absolutely crazy. In a night where we have seen new tag team champions crowned, Sebastian Steel destroying Mad Dog Smith, and Jack Diamond topping newcomer, The Killer Penguin, the fans are at a frenzy as the faint smell of blood is in there air. Debris is all over the ring from a grueling hardcore match. ICW Shooting Star champion, Bobby Barratt makes the cover and through chorus of booing the referees hand slams the mat once, twice, three times. The champ has just defended his belt. We don’t hear Motley Crue though, as Motorhead begins to play. It only takes a brief second for those in attendance to realize what is going on as “The Ace of Spades” reverberates off the arena roof back down to the mat as Bobby Barratt stands, snatches his belt from the ref and turns toward the entrance where the ICW World Champion, Jack Diamond emerges.
Diamond, as smug as ever has his world title held high above his head. The same title that will be up for grabs in the Hell in a Cell this coming Monday at Midsummer Night’s Massacre. The same title that the self-proclaimed “Prodigal Icon” vies for inside the unforgiving structure. Bobby responds by holding his own title above his head as the top two ranked superstars in ICW stare at one another. Time stands still. The crowd becomes nothing but a murmur to Diamond, a blur of different colors. In that moment, he only sees one thing and that is his opponent, Bobby Barratt.
Thursday, April 20th- 6:23PM
Receptionist: Sir, Mr. Rieter will see you now.
Jack Diamond looks up at the young, plump receptionist, almost blurry-eyed as he had been waiting in the lobby of Icon Championship Wrestling’s offices for what seemed like days. He gathered himself, adjusted his tie, and followed the shuffled foots of the woman to an office down the hall.
Diamond: What kind of meeting takes place at almost seven o’clock? Is this the kind of operation you guys run here?
The receptionist either doesn’t hear the question or is too afraid to answer. As they get to the door, she motions for Jack to enter. Behind the desk is Lucas Rieter, the general manager of Icon Championship Wrestling, a new startup company with huge aspirations. He raises his head from the stack of paperwork and smiles.
Rieter: Jack Diamond, how are you doing mate? I’ve seen plenty of tapes and what you’ve done on the indy circuit is just amazing. We think ICW is the perfect place for you to take your skillset and grow into a global star in this business!
Diamond: Cut the charade. If I fit in so perfectly here, why am I meeting with you this late on a Thursday evening? That name plate outside your door doesn’t say President or Owner, what gives?
Rieter: It’s been a super busy day around here Jack, press conferences, contract negotiations and signings, the owner, Shawn Rossdale, has been a hard man to track down and asked me to handle this meeting. I’m sorry it’s so late, we have a lot on the horizon though. Trust me when I say you are going to play a big part in this. You are without a doubt THE guy we have chosen to build this company around.
Diamond looks on, he can tell its hectic today, and maybe this Rieter is telling the truth. Just as he gets read to speak, Lucas’ phone rings and he politely excuses himself out of his office. How much waiting does someone of his caliber have to do? Frustratingly, Diamond paces the office. He can’t help but glance over the stack of paperwork on and a torn piece of notebook paper catches his eye. He leans in closer to read it.
Diamond is taken aback a bit. Lucas Rieter just told him to his face that he was the man they wanted to build the company around but this note suggests otherwise. Is that why he isn’t meeting with the owner? This Rossdale bloke must be off wining and dining Barratt while Jack waits in a cold office. Just then Rieter walks back in the room.
Rieter: So what do you say Ace? Can we ink a deal today or what? I think you are the next big thing!
Diamond: Uh, I’ll get back to you.
Rieter looks confused as Diamond walks past him, heading out of the office. It would be days before Diamond would make the decision to sign with ICW, delaying his debut in the company to their second show. He still hasn’t gotten over that pit in his stomach when seeing someone else’s name on that note.
Monday, May 15th – 11:07PM
In the midst of ICW’s first ever sellout crowd, thanks to Jack Diamond himself, The Ace of Spades stands backstage by a monitor watching the action unfolding in front of him. The Scheel’s Arena is exploding with cheers as ICW Owner, Shawn Rossdale scuffles with Bobby Barratt. He has to laugh to himself as it all unfolds. Diamond talks to no one in particular…
Diamond: Who is the “next big thing” now, Shawn? This is what happens when you bring degenerates into a company, they turn the company upside down.
Diamond looks across to gorilla position where Jenny Stackhouse is speaking worriedly to a group of Fargo’s finest. At the time, Diamond assumed they were there to escort Bobby, who Shawn just fired, out of the building. Imagine his surprise when security almost had to drag Shawn through the curtains and into the hands of the officers, arresting him for suspected assault. Diamond stays off in the shadows and watches the event unfold. Shawn is carted off while Barratt and Jericho Kade make jokes. As Jenny walks off, disgusted, she turns back around and Diamond could have sworn he seen a wink in the direction of Bobby, who was now being escorted off the premises by ICW security.
Monday, May 29th – 1:03AM
Earlier tonight, Diamond made history becoming the inaugural ICW World Champion. As his driver is putting his bags in the back of a car, Diamond sees and overhears some fans talking about tonight’s show. Jack rolls his window down so he can hear the conversation.
Fan #1: What was your favorite part of the show?
Diamond smiles, knowing these young fans were most likely some of the ones chaning “Diamond” during Gold Rush Rumble. There is much to choose from, Diamond’s ladder match win to secure a shot at the shooting star title or his rumble win, becoming the first world champ.
Fan #2: It’s gotta be when Bobby Barratt returned and caused mayhem in the Rumble. Seeing him spray paint Rossdale’s office, that was pure gold!
Diamond: Pure gold? What are these punks talking about? I’m out here busting my ass, winning matches against all the odds and they like to see that Barney looking asshat graffiti an office?
Diamond shakes his head as his driver gets in and pulls out of the parking lot.
Wednesday, May 31st – 3:00PM
Diamond is waiting in a diner for Jenny Stackhouse to arrive. The champ was chosen to be on the new episode of ‘Jenny’s Stacked House’ to discuss his world title reign and whatever oddball questions she comes up with. The girl can be a bit of an airhead sometimes in Diamond’s opinion.
A car pulls up and Jenny gets out before leaning back in to give the driver a peck on the cheek. Diamond can’t make out the driver all the way but can tell it’s not Rossdale or his vehicle which confuses Jack a bit. As the vehicle pulls out, the license plate reads “PROD1GY”
Stackhouse: Thank you for meeting me here, let’s get started shall we?
Diamond had been watching the car speed off in the distant and didn’t even see her walk in. He shook the confusion away and began his interview.
Tuesday, June 6th – 8:00PM
The alarm in Diamonds hotel room goes off. His body aches from last night’s Spectacle. It was his first match with Bobby Barratt, and boy did they take each other to church in that ring. A part of Diamond feels dirty though. Who knows what would have happened had Rossdale not come out. Jack was aware, was just getting ready to kickout of Prodigal Arrival when Shawn’s music hit. The beatdown and subsequent submission on Bobby was just part of the job. That isn’t what Diamond is about though. His phone rings, and while the other party is muffled, Jack gets a disturbed look on his face.
Diamond: Look Shawn, I don’t need you coming out in my matches. People are already talking about me being in your pocket and all that crap. I am here to do my job, make money and make you money. This backstage politics thing isn’t for me. If you need me to watch your back, consider it done, but I will not be your little gopher. I am the World Champion damnit, I did it myself and will keep it myself.
With that, Diamond hangs up the phone and throws it to the side.
Tuesday, July 4th – 12:46AM
Diamond drives down I40 towards Memphis. Tonight’s show, Dead End, still jumping around his head. Diamond’s two titles were on the line. It was Diamond/Barratt 2. Ladder match, Jack’s specialty. He had the match won. Set to retain both belts and again Shawn Rossdale stuck his nose where it didn’t belong. With one swift kick, Diamond fell, clinging to his world title. He motionlessly watched as Barratt climbed the ladder to steal his Shooting Star title from him. He grips the wheel tight, trying to swallow down the hate and his phone rings. It is Lucas Rieter.
Rieter: Mate, I’m really sorry about what happened tonight. I will make it right, I’m working on something. Shawn is off his rocker.
Diamond: Listen here, there is going to be hell to pay. Do you know what you told me the first time we met, Lucas?
Rieter: A lot has happened since then, what is this?
Diamond: You told me I was the next big thing right before walking out of your office. That evening I seen a note proclaiming Bobby the next big thing. There is only room for one “next big thing.” This ends soon, don’t be a casualty in a war you shouldn’t be in.
Diamond hangs up the phone, a white rage burning from within. There will be another meeting between him and Bobby, the only questions are where, when, and will they both survive?
Monday, July 31st- 11:55PM
A horn snaps Jack out of his daze. In the brief second he was staring at Bobby, he knew that this clash in the cell would change both men. A rivalry born from jealousy, grown in hatred, may end in blood and carnage. All the games, all the betrayal, and all the shenanigans stop this Monday at Midsummer Night’s Massacre. It’s just two men face to face. Two men, who share similar childhoods and upbringings in two completely different cultures and across the ocean lock up in the battle of all battles. Who walks out of the cell the world champion? Who walks out at all? It is Diamond/Barratt 3! The first two matches have been blanketed in controversy, will this finally be the match to determine who sits atop ICW’s throne? The horn gets louder as a motor can be heard barreling behind the curtains of the arena. Then, with a crash, a taco truck comes roaring out onto the ramp and Diamond dives out of the way just in time. As he fell he seen Sebastian Steele behind the wheel, almost aiming for the world champ. The scene comes to an end just as all hell breaks loose in the ring. This is Icon Championship Wrestling.
