We see Rev. Thomas Reece standing in the front of The Church as he's going over this weeks sermon for the congregation on Sunday. The Reverand can be heard as clear as day as far as across the street as people seem to smile as they pass by and hear his voice. An older green minivan pulls up in front of The Church, the man steps out and heads into the Church. He's quickly greeted by the Reverand, with a welcome and a hearty handshake. As it's none other than the Ascension Wrestling Federations Prestige Class Champion Danny Ray. The two men head over to a pew and have a seat as they begin to chat.
Rev. Thomas Reece - " Welcome my brother, what brings you to The Church? "
Danny Ray - " Sorry to bother you, Rev. Reece this isn't about work it's more faith-based. I knew you were a Reverand so I looked you up and headed here hope you don't mind. "
Rev. Thomas Reece - " My brother, I never mind my job in life is bringing souls to the Lord Jesus Christ, wrestling is just a way of doing that. Besides my brother, I have been meaning to reach out to you. So what can I help you with? "
The Family Man takes a deep long breath as he looks around at the stained glass windows throughout the Church before he begins to speak.
Danny Ray - " Rev. Reece the last year has been extremely trying and my faith in God has been shaky at best, one day I am all in and all for him the next I am pissed off at him and not trusting him. I know what the good book says about him giving us test and everything but it seems like I am being tested every day and it's getting old. "
Rev. Thomas Reece - " My brother, God will never give us more than we can handle and everytime he test us he is right beside us. "
Danny Ray - " That's all good and well but it's getting harder and harder to believe, growing up I always heard things. "
Rev. Thomas Reece looks at The Family Man for a minute as if he is puzzled or as if he's trying to figure out how to word his next question.
Rev. Thomas Reece - " You heard things like voices? Are these the same ones you still hear today? You didn't think I knew, did you? Yes, my brother, I have been keeping an eye on you God had spoken to me and said to bring you back to him. That you needed guidance. "
Danny Ray - " Yeah Reverand they are and they have been getting worse sometimes I just can't control them anymore. I have started going back to my doctor for that stuff. "
Danny Ray - " If God wanted me to come back to him why didn't he speak to me or stop putting me and my family through so much hell? Why not show some mercy for a change and allow us to be happy? "
Rev. Thomas Reece - " My brother he has you just didn't listen, every time he spoke you ignored him or just didn't pay attention. Look at the things in life he has given you, your children, your wife, you have a way to provide for your family right now you are a champion. I say that is pretty great things so you have been tested more often than most this last year just means the Lord has big plans for you and he thinks your strong enough to handle it. "
The Church bells start to ring as it's twelve O'clock and time for noon prayer a couple members of the community decides to walk in so Rev. Thomas Reece pardons himself for a moment and heads over to them and stands next to them as he says a short prayer with them. While the Reverand says his prayer Danny Ray says his own as he waits. The Reverand doesn't take long and quickly heads back over to the Family Man and continues his discussion.
Rev. Thomas Reece - " My brother, let me bring you back to the Lord, put your soul in my hands and I will put you back on the path to righteousness. There is a verse in Romans that would be right for your situation. "
Romans 8:18
"The pain that you've been feeling, can't compare to the joy that's coming."
Rev. Thomas Reece - " I have a plan to bring you back to the Lord, and a way to allow you to overcome all obstacles. "
Danny Ray - " That's the problem I am so conflicted I don't want to go against God and my family but I need to do what I can to take care of them and win my matches. "
Rev. Thomas Reece - " Then join my congregation and let me lead you to the promise land, I will show you the way and teach you how to break the chains of restriction. When it comes to doing Gods will there is no binds, you do what is needed and when you are taking care of your family you do what you need to. God allows you room for mistakes and room for vengeance "
Rev. Thomas Reece - " My brother, you want to want to take care of them then find the man that they know and love. Find the happiness that you once had, find the Lord Jesus Christ, my brother. "
The family Man sits there pondering every word that the Reverand is saying as if it's coming from one of the twelve disciples themselves.
Danny Ray - " Rev. Reece, all I know is I love my family and God and if you can get me back on the right path and show me how to break free from my inner demons so I can go on and support my family win once and a while, without losing myself in the meantime then I will listen to you. What Do I need to do? "
Rev. Thomas Reece - " First off TESTIFY MY BROTHER!!! "
The two men sit there for a little while longer as Danny Ray rededicates his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and prays to God for the strength to overcome the upcoming challenges he prays to God asking for permission to go to any length to do what is needed to compete and support his family. After a while, The Family Man finally can be seen walking out of the Church and climbing into his old green minivan driving off.
7 and a half hours later...
Danny Ray sit's outside of the Ray house, looking through the living room window as he watches his four small children play while his wife sit's in a recliner watching Roseanne on the TV. He sits there with a smile on his face as he sees his little girl playing with her cabbage patch doll as her twin brother jumps around like Superman. The older two boys wrestling around pretending that they are John Cena and Daniel Bryan their favorite wrestlers. The Family man just can't help but laugh out loud as he realizes exactly what wisdom Rev. Thomas Reece spoke to him earlier that day.
While he sits there watching and staring, enjoying the view he knows just how blessed he really is. He begins to think, to doubt if he can or if he should cross the line to do what is needed to win his match coming up. Danny Ray keeps thinking about every word Rev. Thomas Reece said to him but he's afraid if he crosses that line he won't be able to stop, he won't be able to control it and he won't be able to come back from it.
The Family Man remembers exactly what happened when he faced El Cazador, he still remembers what he did to Nelly Angel. He remembers the feelings he had, the way he could barely control himself. He almost ended a man's career over a championship while forgetting who he was as a man. As he sat listening to the Reverand he let some of that guilt go he released the pain he had been holding inside of himself the stress he had been putting on himself.
Sitting there in the minivan he watches his children having such fun enjoying life without any worries, without any cares just joy, happiness and knowing their mom and dad love them. It warms his heart knowing his children have that in their lives but he still can't help worrying if he will make it out of his next match unharmed, or even alive he isn't as young as he used to be, he isn't in as good as shape as these other guys. The competition is getting more fierce and more competitive as he climbs the ladder, but he looks on through the living room window and watches them and he understands why he gets up every day and puts his body through it all.
The Family Man quickly snaps out of it as he notices his wife looking out the window at him with a big beautiful smile on her face and the kids standing at the door screaming daddy at him. He begins to laugh as he jumps out of the van and heads over to them with a new found faith not only in God but in himself.
