It was okay but I don't think it gave us very good publicity. I would suggest a couple things if the network admins don't mind. These suggestions are based on this review mind you.
1) I would use Global announcers for all Global events no more announcers from individual feds.
2) I would suggest using Grammarly or another form of a spelling and grammar type checking system.
3) I would try and find a permanent writing staff for the Global event matches segments can still be written by the feds and individuals with the Global staff writers checking the final writings for errors.
4) Also for the Global event's no short matches there is no need in them especially title matches, I would also give some reasoning for the matches and build throughout the event.
Now, this is just my thoughts according to the review if you're trying to get positive exposure and press and recruits.
To answer your suggestions, Duke
1) We have global announcers, Joey Hawke and Jerry "The King" Lawler. But Xtraction was a versus event, and I think having the commentators for those specific feds makes more sense. The reviewer just didn't like the way they were written, which is a fine complaint; that's a very subjective issues though.
2) Or just use spell check in general, lol. The biggest problem is that certain words like "hurencanrana" are impossible to spell and spell check is no help.
2.5) MORE CONCERNING is that for one of the matches the reviewer noted that one of the matches had everyone's full names each time they were mentioned; that's generally a trademark of somebody using a machine/simulator to write matches or copy-pasting in names and moves. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's something to be careful for.
3) Haha. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Oh man Duke, if we could have a permanent staff to do writing like that we'd be really well off. The fact of the matter is that I'm not seeing anyone outside of admins who are willing to step up and write matches. SSS has a post in the match writers section right now and it'd be an excellent practice for people to help but has anyone volunteered? No? Oh. In terms of the Network Admins providing oversight, we could theoretically do that but already we've gotten pushback on oversights already in place so I think any more would create issues with the owners (and take a butt-load of time). Honestly just proofreading your work after writing makes a huge difference. I always proofread my blog posts and I find typos here and there- rps? Not so much, and then when I read them later I'm like "Oh jeez" and go in and fix small typos. But I also remember being a match writer and just wanting to write the match and never touch it again- so it's the writer's discretion I suppose, lol.
I think match quality can fluctuate between matches and obviously improve as people gain more experience. But there's only one way people are gonna get experience, and that's writing matches. Saying somebody can't write a match because it's "too important" just shoves them into a lower tier and never encourages them to do more. It's the same with consistently booking somebody in the lower card. If they never taste the big leagues they'll never be ready for it. I'd rather have match quality take a hit here and there if it means we're getting new writers. Kuroi used to be garbage at everything when he started but he got opportunities and grew- the same goes for pretty much all of us.
This goes to the feds too. I know with bi-weekly shows there's a pressure to make it PPV quality every time, and honestly it
should be better quality than XHF's two shows a week. But getting new writers out of the rping crew who are interested is a great way to grow talent overall (match writers turn into better rpers too) and a good way to groom future admins.
4) If you wanna write it Duke go write (get it?) ahead. That reviewer is coming in with no rps read- but neither AXW or AWF are angle feds. Having said that, both still include quite a bit of storyline in between matches on every show. Even how, for Xtraction the matches were build off-show. He especially was hard on the X*Crown match, but that had a really well built storyline with Rob attacking Jack and whatnot.
I like the concept of getting shows reviewed, but we do need to take some of what is said with a grain of salt since the reviews are coming from somebody without context. AXW and AWF are both rp-based programs so the context comes from the rp time (and storylines running between shows). Pulling one show out of anything can be confusing.
Now, considering that this guy essentially had only a little understanding of the full picture and he still said it was a good show I'm quite happy. Spellcheck is good though, lol. We're blessed these days that even Firefox auto spell-checks everything; I'm making fixes on the old XHF shows even 16 years later, lol. Also, no more high flyers until spell check figures out how to spell hurencanrananananananana or whatever (j/k).
My advice overall to writers and rpers? If you've got time, use it. Most shows are two weeks apart; if you're waiting until that second week to start anything that's on you- but you're only making it harder for yourself. One, because writers need to be writing when they can and if you're not rping then they're just doing guesswork and two, feuds are much better when both guys are active right away and rping against each other and watching each other's promos. The same goes for the writers, I always advocate writing when you can and leaving the ending open or writing multiple endings until after the judging. Being prepared means a higher quality overall as well as having shows go up on time.
