MM is a good character; but he's always been hard to get over. I mean, the guy looks like hulk and is essentially vision, isn't he? Does he have weaknesses or flaws? Really you've offered no argument why he's the best, lol
I feel like the characters who've had the best appeal are often the more physical in nature rather than mages/shooters. That's why Wolverine, Captain America, and Batman have such staying power. There's something to be said about a hero who'll get their knuckles involved in a fight.

Martian Man Hunter is a good side Kick but that's about it, now if you want a superhero look no further than the Flash or Hulk. And MOngo how dare you, call Batman a hero, he is not a hero that self-serving egotistical clown.

Your ignorance of the subject matter troubles me greatly.
Martian Man Hunter is an alien from Mars. His entire race was destroyed, or so he belived. Other survivors were found in later story arcs. In those same arcs, he overcame his fear of fire.
He had the powers of Superman, except maybe stronger. He was a founding member of the Justice League. He was the one comic book character that caused fear in EVERY one of them, and the only one Batman had no file to kill. He was a psychic who could fly, had super speed, teleport, and read minds. He was virtually invulnerable and could shape shift.
He is flawed in the sense he has no family, or really anything, anymore. He is a loner, much like Wolverine and Batman. And like Captian America, everyone he ever loved is dead.
If he is not the best comic book character ever, he is at least the best DC character ever. He is better than that other alien who is squeaky clean and probably a virgin (I can explain that), better than that sociopathic costume wearing rich bastard obsessed with bats, better than the lesbian with a rope, better than Jesse Owens in a red suit, better than the super bowl ring wearing dude, better than that half robot/half child, and better than that homosexual swimmer.
On a completely different topic. Watch Mallrats. In it, they discuss Superman and Lois Lane. In no way can Superman have sex. Since all the women of Krypton are dead, there is no other vagina that can support Kal-El. I mean, look at it this way. When you are smashing puss, and the chicken head says "harder" I dunno about you, but I try to put my hips through the bed under her. Now, imagine if Clark Kent did that. Two pumps in and he's in the crust of the earth. let alone when he finally ejaculates. He busts in that chick and his lil swimmers would go through her like a slice of cheese through a lactose intolerant nun. Unless Mr. Kent had a kryptonite condom, which probably would make him impotent, he ain't screwing anything but his hand, let alone knocking anyone up. And even if he did, some yellow sunlight shines through the mothers belly, the baby kicks, and momma dies. Superman, Clark Kent, Kal-El, whatever is a virgin who needs to learn his red speedo goes on the inside of the yoga pants.

whoa whoa whoa. wait you said character not group... i was going to say something about possibly dissing the teen titans, but they're a group. Also moon knight is pretty fucking bad ass too! he's not the best though.
I'd say... well i would say batman at first, but he's not the best ever either. I think that wolverine is one of if not the best character out there. He's suffered so much yet he's overcame it all, ya know? he was experimented on and he fought the fucking hulk in his debut! like seriously guys that's awesome! although we don't talk about his "death" that's a disappointment.
Also i could maybe make a case for a few other characters... then again i'd have to read much more of their stuff and what not though.

I made the case for a character, I just dissed the groups.
Wolverine is a good choice, but remember, Wolverine is not alone. He has others to relate to. He has people who can sympathize with his plight. Yes, he suffered, but he was not the only survivor in a planet wide extinction. Not to mention, Wolverine could drink, and with enough alcohol, no one suffers.

You do know Martian Manhunter was originally teleported from Mars to earth by Dr. Erdel and that's how his story began right and he wasn't the last of his kind. Also that he was one of the original members of the Justice League so he also has a team to rely on. lol

That's true. He's one of those guys i like allot besides like batman and the teen titans, haha. So of course he's one of my choices. But also i just realized that you said comic book character and not hero. Why is everyone talking about heroes then? lol.
Anyways, i'm going to make a case for a villain, because #VillainsArePeopleAndShouldBeLovedToo.
So screw your heroes! I'm making a case, a serious case, for one of the best villains IMO. The Joker. Now before i continue i need to state the fact that there are three Jokers, at least. I'll talk about all of them so you actually know some context and what not for the character as a whole. Also i may throw in some theories and what not i have of my own.
The first joker, a sadistic mob boss with a permanent grin and a face as pale as snow. He has been around since April 25th, 1940. 78 years now. The first joker was cold and cunning. He was smart and sophisticated. He clearly had a troubled past. Something that had to make a man do the things he did in the early days. He was a serial killer, and although only lasted about 12 or 13 issues in the first volume of Batman. From issues 1-12 or 1-13, he quickly established himself as a threat.
The second joker, the one many know and probably one of the ones many grew up with and know. The one is the silly days of the mid 40's and 50's. This Joker was a prankster, a, well a joker in the literal sense. He played jokes and tricks more then his previous incarnation. He was there as an enemy, but also something else. yeah, this is likely looked down upon by many of you reading this here. But he was still the joker. He was still the man who had been traumatized and broken beyond anything anyone could imagine. Now i believe this is the joker where we got the back story of him being the red hood. A criminal who, wore a red helmet and cape. he met batman in the past, i think. if my memory serves me right. He fell in some toxic substance of some sort. and that day he got the permanent smile and green hair. After that he wore white and red makeup. After that he became the joker. Many other things happend to and with this joker. many i don't remember, many you probably don't remember. After all this character has been around for 78 years.
Now the third joker. Perhaps the most disturbing of them all really. I believe this is the one who's the most sick and disturbed of them all. This is the one who cut his own face off. who wears it as a mask. This is the psychotic man who will do anything. this i believe is also the joker form the 90's and stuff too.
Now that you have a gist of joker and his past, i'll get into why i think he's the greatest character in all of comics. In one back story, because he's very complicated and has had his origin story retold like all comic characters for some stupid reason, well anyway let me get back on track with my point and explaining. Joker in one back story/origin story lost his wife and unborn child in one day. He fell into a bit of toxins and got the smile he always has along with the green hair. He lost his whole world in one brief moment. Now i know some will say, that's nothing compared to losing you entire planet, but superman for example, was a baby and didn't even know who or what he was for a long long time. So losing his home planet doesn't have the same effect. Martian Manhunter lost everything as well, too. Or supposedly. But he was brought to earth by a scientist. He really didn't even know anything about his home world being fucked over or not, at least from my understanding and knowledge of the character anyways.
Joker felt every loss. Every blow that got blown on him. He had absolutely nothing and absolutely no one. Unlike martian manhunter who had the scientist and was actually a detective in the early days before JLA. Unlike superman who was found by the Kents. Unlike Batman who had alfred and starfire who had the titans. Unlike wolvy who had the x-men and the canadian team he was in. The Joker had nothing what so ever. No one what so ever.
Now i know you'll likely retort with harly queen, or something like that, but this was the beginning. this was far before harly. Before any of that. He was just a man who lost it all and was down on his luck. A man who resented the world who dealt him this shitty life and god awful fate. Unlike most heroes and hell many villains joker was left with nothing. He decided to take vengeance on this cruel world who took his wife, his child and even his identity. His very being, his very existence.
He got into crime and eventually became a cold and cruel serial killer. A man who decided to take it out on everyone else. The Joker felt this was the only thing he could do now. the only thing that he was alive for. At least this is what i think. I mean he was a man broken to pieces with grief and regret. The Joker was broken physically and mentally.
and... i'm tired so i'll continue this sometime later, lol.

Okay, Kira lets talk Villains, I believe one of the most overlooked villains is Batman. See everyone calls him a hero but he isn't everything he does is for his own personal gain and reason. He judges everyone else and acts as jury too he pretends to be a team player and friend yet has a plan to stab every one of his "teammates" in the back when it suits him. I believe him to be one of the biggest VILLAINS.

I love batman, i really do. But he's nothing but a rich bitch and a spoiled brat with too much money and too much time. And really as you see batman as a villain, i can see that, i can also see Joker as a sort of hero in some ways as well.

Martian Manhunter is a good back up guy. There's a reason they always leave him behind at the watchtower. The morphing power is probably the coolest part of him. I mean, phasing through walls? A little girl in X-men can do that! Super strength is a dime a dozen. As far as DC goes, he's not even the coolest last of his kind alien! But he is cooler than Superman. So who am I talking about? I'm talking about Lobo! Bounty Hunter. Rides a space motorcycle. Aformentioned super strength. Can regenerate from a single cell. Murdered his entire planet just so he can be the last of his kind! Oh he's so great! Get on that Lobo hype train before DC busts out the movie and everyone gets on it, I'm telling you!
But Marvel has the better heroes in general. I'm biased, but Spider-man is the best. He's got a unique set of powers. Wall climb, spider-sense. He uses his intelligence as well, not relying only on his powers. He doesn't reach beyond his limits and try to protect the whole world (except for one storyline), but deals with his own shit while also trying to save lives. Spider-man is the best. Period.
As for villains, Carnage is the best phycho chaotic evil villain. Thanos is the best mega world-ending villain.
