{Shot fades into the small living room of a rather cramped looking apartment, where Marcus Jackson is stretched out on the couch with his feet up on the other end. A few strips of Kinesio tape are covering his left shoulder while he idly flips through the different channels on the television ranging from various newscasts, sporting events, and regularly scheduled programs. A sigh escapes his lips as he rests the remote next to him, leaving some random cartoon to serve as background noise while he checks his phone. His eyes shift from the illuminated screen to the door, which swings open to reveal Soul Hunter carrying a few pieces of mail in his hand as he walks in.}
Marcus: “Anything of interest this time?”
Soul: “Not really. Just the same stuff.”
{A groan bellows from Marcus as he leans back on the armrest of the couch before returning his attention to his phone. Soul nonchalantly tosses the mail onto the kitchen counter whilst hanging his keys up. Judging from his quick movements, he seems to be on edge about something, a vibe Marcus quickly picks up on.}
Marcus: “You good?”
Soul: “Huh?”
Marcus: “The way you’re shifting about. Acting as if something’s got you riled up.”
Soul: “Well you do know that we’re flying out to Yokohama in a couple weeks time, right?”
{Marcus cocks an eyebrow at the question.}
Marcus: “When was that a thing?”
Soul: “When we got the phone call saying that we had been hired by Suzuki Blitz Wrestling, Marcus. You know both of us had been eying the place for awhile before we decided to pull the trigger on it.”
Marcus: “...”
Soul: “Seriously?”
{The young African-American simply chuckles at his friend’s annoyance as he goes back to his phone.}
Marcus: “I’m messing with you. ‘Course I remember when we got that call from that Suzuki woman. She said something about booking one of us for the next event.”
Soul: “Rose Storm is what it’s being called. Apparently, I got the lucky draw on being the one to wrestle.”
Marcus: “It’s a start at least.”
Soul: “You’re not even upset that you aren’t getting your chance?”
Marcus: “Hunter, we’re going in there together. We’re both debuting, but you’re the one who’s getting his in-ring debut first. You really think I’m pissed about that? I’d be pissed if both of us were just blown off entirely.”
{Soul contemplatively looks up at the ceiling as he gathers his thoughts before shrugging at the statement.}
Soul: “Yeah, you’re right.”
Marcus: “Who the hell did they even schedule you against?”
Soul: “Some girl named Kuro-Hana. Apparently, she’s the sister of another wrestler there named KITSUNE.”
Marcus: “Any idea as to what Hana’s like in-ring?”
{Soul takes another moment to gather his thoughts.}
Soul: “Dangerous, like her sister.”
Marcus: “Dangerous how?”
Soul: “Did you not see what she did to that Chinese woman?”
Marcus: “Not really. I was probably too busy tending to my shoulder.”
{Soul facepalms at his friend’s ignorance, but shakes the thought away as he continues.}
Soul: “She just about nearly twisted the woman’s ankle off with the added weight of the ball and chain. What if I get put in a similar situation? The last thing we need is for one of us to get seriously hurt on our first working night.”
{Marcus lets out another laugh as he pushes himself up off the couch.}
Marcus: “Man, you really do worry too much, Hunter. If anything, your fear is only gonna fuel Hana’s fire.”
Soul: “Huh?”
Marcus: “I may not have seen the entire tape, but the way she was standing at the end of that match just spoke cockiness, maybe arrogance too, but she seemed cockier than I ever have been. You keep showing a cowardice side and she’s gonna eat you up.”
{Tension rising, Soul slams a fist on the counter.}
Soul: “I am no coward!”
{Marcus proceeds to make mock chicken noises as he comedically flaps his arms about, only furthering Hunter’s anger.}
Soul: “I’m not a coward and I’m not a damn chicken either!”
Marcus: “Then what are you, Hunter? If you aren’t either of the two above, then tell me what you are. Make it known.”
{A sly grin crosses Marcus’s lips as Hunter points a finger at him.}
Soul: “I am the son of the National Wrestling Council legend, Soul Shadow. The man who was the inaugural NWC World Heavyweight Champion and I’m the one carrying his legacy into battle everywhere I go. I will not be talked down to let alone defeated easily. I have this bloodline to carry, dammit!”
{Marcus makes a gesture with his hand as if to say “go on” before folding his arms over his chest.}
Soul: “I am not afraid of the challenges that lie in my wake in order for me to prove I am just as capable of a wrestler as my father was. I WILL become legendary like him, I WILL make my own legacy, and I WILL prove I am better than Kuro-Hana! Her cockiness, her overconfidence...every flaw about her will prove to be her downfall in this battle.”
Marcus: “So what are you gonna do then?”
Soul: “Prove to Suzuki Blitz Wrestling that I am stronger, tougher, more determined than Kuro-Hana is. I’m doing this not only for me, not only for us but for my father as well. This is to prove just how powerful of a first impact I can make as his heir.”
{Marcus gives a small round of applause to the speech as Soul composes himself. Some banging from up above is heard, catching the attention of both as they look up.}
Marcus: “These neighbors can buzz off if they don’t appreciate the extra noise.”
{Soul heads off to his room, closing the door behind him as Marcus flops back down onto the couch, his attention back on the television as he starts to flip through multiple channels once more.}
