"The Walls Prison"
Jefferson City, Missouri
September 17, 2018
It's been a few months since he had been inside of these walls and had never been here as a guest but today Eric Chronister isn't an inmate but a visitor. As he walks through the halls of the prison he remembers each and every face that passes by him, he remembers things about each one of them. Some of them good and many things bad but he knows that it's all in the past now and he's a free man making a good living an honest living and he isn't coming back here at least any time soon.
He makes it to the visitor's room where he has to go through a strict search and check before he can be allowed in where he will wait until the inmate he is there to see will be brought down to visit with him. The guards on duty remember him as soon as they see him and ask him to step to the side as they whisper amongst each other. Eric doesn't make any trouble or scene as he knows what to do and not to do he's been in the system long enough and knows how things work.
Guard #1
Chronister step over here, please.
Eric Chronister
Sure thing!
Guard #1
I need you to spread your legs a bit and raise your arms so I can pat you down and check you for any illegal substances and or drugs.
He nods at the prison guard and does what he's been instructed to do without incident.
Guard #2
Mr. Chronister, I need your photo ID and the second form of ID also to verify your identification.
Eric Chronister
Yeah, sure thing, I have my drivers license and my work ID is that cool?
Guard #2
As long as it has your name and photo on it, I will be able to count it as a second form of identification.
Eric Chronister
Yeah, then we're cool.
After a few more minutes of verifying everything and a physical search of Eric's personal space, they allow him into the visitation room. Where he sits at a table off in the far corner where he waits for his friend Aaron Ortiz otherwise known as "Homie". He sits there at the table looking around at the other families and friends visiting their loved ones and friends. He reaches into his pocket pulling out the three rolls of quarters that he brought for the vending machines and heads over to them.
He starts off buying both him and Homie a twenty-four ounce Mountain Dew soda and then heads over spending the rest on packs of smokes for his friend. He buys a few of every brand he can as it's hard to get the good stuff inside the Walls, so makes sure to get Marlboro, Salem's, Newport, Camel and Kool's before heading back to his table.
The Guard brings in Aaron Ortiz allowing him to come over and join Eric at the table for his visitation, Aaron (Homie) appears to be both excited and shocked to see his longtime friend and cellie. They both give each other a quick Bro hug and handshake as they sit back down and begin their visit.
Homie
Yo, CHRONIC, what's up? I didn't think I would see you again.
Eric Chronister
Hey brother, I told you I would take care of you.
Homie
CHRONIC, you know how many times I have heard that over the years from guys that have come and gone? thousands! You know how many guys have actually kept their word? None, till now.
He hands his buddy one of the Mountain Dews and slides the smokes over to him letting him know they are his.
Eric Chronister
Well, brother, I told you were like family, and I take care of my family, besides, have I ever given you a reason to doubt my word in the decade we have known each other.
Homie
Thanks, CHRONIC! So what brings you this way?
Homie
I mean I thought you were living and working over in Japan or something.
Eric Chronister
I am, brother but there's this big event here in the states starting at the end of the month.
Homie
Yeah, what kind of event?
Eric Chronister
A big tournament of some sort, the winner gets a contract for a title shot at any title in their company.
Eric Chronister
My company sent me to represent them and I haven't even had a match yet.
The guard slowly passes by checking on the tables and the people visiting making sure no ones doing anything they shouldn't be doing.
Homie
Thought you had a match against a couple Asian hotties or something CHRONIC.
Eric Chronister
So did I, so did I brother but when I got down there the show never happened. I still got paid but never had a match and haven't been booked till now.
Homie
At least they paid you dog!
Eric Chronister
Yeah, that's great and all but it doesn't help any but anyways I'm facing this guy named Maverick from AWF. You ever hear of him or that company?
Homie
Not sure that I have but if anyone has the OG down in H wing probably would have, do you want me to ask him later on and see what I can find out?
Eric Chronister
Nah you don't have too, it's no big thing brother, it's just a job besides what's the worst he could do. I have been locked up for a decade with killers, rapist, thieves and other hardened criminals. I just spent the last few months training with different martial arts masters in Japan, so I'm cool. Thanks though brother.
He stands up grabbing the empty Mountain Dew bottles from the table and walks over to the trash can throwing them away before buying a couple more along with a couple bags of Doritos for him and his friend.
Homie
Hey, I'm here if you need anything CHRONIC. I know there are a lot of wrestling fans and stuff here in the joint and I'm sure I could find one that has heard of this Maverick guy or at least this AWF place.
Eric Chronister
Tell you what brother I will be in town for a few more days here's the number I will be staying at. Call me collect and I will accept the charges and let me know if you find anything out and I will come to see you again.
Homie
So tell me how has the free life been treating you? Have you got lucky? Better yet have you smoked any CHRONIC yet?
Eric Chronister
You're killing me, bro, of course, I'm loving the free life being able to do what I want when I want. Go where I want whenever I want. But most of all being able to go eat what I want when I want.
Eric Chronister
As for getting lucky, I am seeing a lady in Japan, but for the chronic hell no it would be a violation and I'm not trying to come back here any time soon Homie. I love you like a brother but not enough to be your roommate again.
One of the guards slowly walks by and as he passes he suddenly stops turns back and faces Eric stares at him then begins to talk to him.
Guard #3
Hey, you look familiar do we know each other?
Eric Chronister
I use to be an inmate here that's probably it.
Guard #3
No, that's not it, can't be I just started here about a week ago.
Eric Chronister
Then I don't know, I just got back in town this week I have been living in Japan for the past few months, sorry must have me confused with someone else.
The guard looks real hard at him for a few minutes as he ponders where he could have seen him before when all the sudden his eyes light up as if a light switch was just turned on.
Guard #3
You said you have been in Japan do you by chance work for Suzuki Blitz Wrestling?
He looks up at the guard then over at his friend then back at the guard.
Eric Chronister
Yeah, I do, you know wrestling?
Guard #3
Hell yeah, especially Suzuki Blitz Wrestling and the XHF Network. Can't help but watch that stuff been a wrestling fan since I was in diapers. You think I could get your autograph before you leave today?
Eric Chronister
Sure, you can.
Guard #3
So now that I know where I have seen you, are you here in town for that big End of Days tournament being held by the XHF Network over in Holy Land Abandoned Biblical Theme Park in Waterbury, Connecticut?
Eric Chronister
Yeah, I am I have a spot in the tournament against some guy from AWF.
Aaron Ortiz motions at Eric to come closer to him for a second as he begins to whisper something to him.
Guard #3
Ascension Wrestling Federation that's a tough federation there they have some great talent. Who's the guy your facing?
Eric Chronister
Well, I believe they call him Maverick.
Guard #3
Wow, you drew an unlucky number with that opponent, he's a former State of Ohio champion. Extremely good and he's an ICON so that means he plays dirty and will most likely have back up with him to make sure he wins.
About the time the guard finishes his statement he gets a call on his cell phone so he excuses himself for a few minutes. Aaron and Eric go back to talking now that they know a little about this Maverick.
Homie
Yo CHRONIC, here's your chance to find out about this guy you will be facing. When the guard comes back, talk to him and get him to meet with you later and find out everything he knows about him and this AWF company. That way you have some idea of who you're going to be facing.
Eric Chronister
Your right brother I do need to find out at least who this guy is so I know what I'm up against right.
Eric Chronister
When the guard comes back I will do that, thanks.
The two guys sit there and bullshit for a while as they talk about old times and what's been going on since Eric's release when the guard finally comes back into the visiting room. The two men notice him and watch as he begins to make rounds throughout the room when he comes close enough to them Eric motions for him to come over to their table.
Guard #3
Yes, can I help you?
Eric Chronister
Yeah, you said you were a wrestling fan right?
Guard #3
Of course, since I was a kid.
Eric Chronister
Make you a deal I need a bit of information wrestling related and well I think you could help, and I just happen to have extra tickets to the End of Days tournament. Maybe you meet me for a drink later and we can talk.
The guard looks around and then pulls a business card out of his pocket, hands it to Eric and walks away.
Homie
Looks like you made a deal CHRONIC.
Eric Chronister
I hope so I will call this number later and hopefully he meets me and I can find out something about this opponent of mine.
He places the card in his pocket and continues talking with his friend as visiting hours are almost up.
