The title is pretty self explanatory, pick your top 10 greatest guitarist ever! and tell us why you think they're so great! or not... i mean it'd be nice of you to justify your opinion and it'd be nice to know why you think they're so great. Anyway it can be any guitarist, as long as they play guitar, so you can even chose lil wayne... if you do though i'll question your sanity and knowledge of guitarists... and i'll be disappointed in you... but that's ok, pick who you want! just has to be 10 of them in order or not, and also it'd be nice if you tell us why.
I'll go ahead and start this in this post as well, i'll try to link some of their songs too that i think show a good bit of their guitar playing too.
1. Jimi Hendrix - The man was a genius and a master at the guitar. You hear any of his songs and you can just tell that he has skill. Jimi knew how to work a chord and even got it named after him. He was a real innovator and advocate in distortion as well as peddles and the likes of whammy bars too. He used the guitar as a tool and was truly the greatest of all time. Just listen to the song i linked you and you can tell how he made a story out of his rendition of the star spangled banner. From making sounds such as screams, to sirens and bombs dropping all on his guitar. Jimi even used bends in ways that none prior would, he put made them into the melody and everything!
2. Eddie Van Halen - When you think of good guitarist Van Halen is one that always comes to mind. He was a master shredder and influenced many of others, my self included. This guitar solo linked just shows you what a master he really was. Not only this, but Van Halen was a true innovator in tapping umongst other things in guitar.
3. Django Reinhardt - Probably someone many of you have never even heard of. I didn't know of him till my guitar teach told me about him one day. Django was a gypsy. He had a terrible accident one day and it fused most of his fingers together, leaving him to only have 3 stead of 5. As you can see him playing live here. If you see him, he's only using two fingers through out the clip. He was a technical master and a true legend and innovator in Jazz guitar.
4. Andres Segovia - He's the god father of classic guitar and wrote numerous books on techniques as well as composed numerous songs. When i was learning guitar we used his books and techniques to learn how to play classic guitar. I mean even in this song linked you can see how good the man was, even at a seasoned age. Also if you notice in the video he's playing with the finger picking style too.
5. Hide - He played guitar calmly and coolly. Always making the most complicated and intricate of melodies and rhythms look effortless. Him and X (later known as X-Japan) helped innovate and create a whole new genre in Visual Kei as well. He's one of my personal favorites for sure.
6. Glen Campbell - For a "country" artist Glen was one of, if not the best guitarist in the more modern era. In this song linked you can really see just how good he really was, hitting fast and complicated notes as well as string crossing at that! he's pretty dang on good!
7. TK - TK can go from a few chords to an outright onslaught of notes all across the neck and strings of the guitar in the blink of an eye or the beat of the heart. Listen to allot of songs from Ling Tosite Shigure and you can and will hear many things from the guitar that sound like it's from 2 or 3 guitars when it's just one man playing in different styles and ways through out the song.
8. Wata - She's a very good shredder and can tell a story with her instrument and longer songs. Trust me some of their songs hit 9+ minutes. Plus i like this band and wanted to put them on the list, haha
9. Mami Sakazaki - She can play many different styles and especially from her early days, she or any of them even knew how to play their instruments. They went from not knowing anything at all to doing what they do 11 years later, it's pretty impressive, and plus i like her and the rest of SCANDAL too.
10. Herman Li & Sam Totman - Through the fire and flames. Nope, that's it. Just through the fire and flames. Watch that video or ever played guitar hero three and you'll understand.
