Just shy of 2000 fans are in attendance inside Gloucester's Old Odeon and they go wild as Skillet's "The Resistance" rings out, the screens that make up the entranceway showing a fast-paced montage of footage of PWA wrestlers in action both at End Of Days and in other promotions.
The cameras race along the front row as fans wave signs and T-Shirts emblazoned with their favourite wrestlers.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the first-ever PWA Adrenaline, LIVE from Gloucester, England! Pat Collins here alongside "Dapper" Dave Sharp and we've got a stacked card for you tonight!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
You're not wrong, Pat - six men made their PWA debuts at End Of Days and we're gonna see two more tonight as Justice Legal takes on a broken-down Mechanic, and Mr. America hands Colin Walker his arse!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Don't be too hasty, I've heard good things about this Walker kid! Also to come tonight your best friend in the whole world, Anguish, will be in action, and our main event sees Eric Chronister and Steven Wright in a battle for honour! But first-
Everybody cheers as PWA Commissioner Eddie Mason makes his way onto the stage as the lights flash all around the arena. Eddie shakes hands with as many fans as is humanly possible as he walks to the ring, even doing a lap around the ring itself in order to greet as many as he can. Walking up the steps into the ring, he is handed a microphone by ring announcer Tony Anderson.
Eddie Mason (pwa commissioner):
Welcome to the Era Of Alpha!
A huge cheer goes up.
Eddie Mason (pwa commissioner):
It feels so good to be back! If you'd have told me eighteen months ago that I'd be back in this very building promoting a wrestling show tonight I would have thought you were crazy! But here we all are! From the ashes of an Empire, could there really be a more fitting place for our first show? But I'm not here to talk about the past, I want to talk about the future! Everybody who has signed up did so because they want to be the best in this company, the best in the business. So it gives me great pleasure to announce that in two weeks, we will begin the process of whittling eight down to one, and that remaining one will be crowned the first-ever PWA World Champion! So with that in mind, I want every man on the roster to give it their all tonight, bring their A-game, give these fans the best night of their lives and show me that you've got what it takes to lead this company! This is wrestling! This is the Era Of Alpha!
Another cheer from the fans as Eddie hands the mic back, walking back up the aisle and slapping more hands as he goes.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
You heard it here first - two weeks from tonight we will start looking for our first champion in PWA!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
You might be looking, Pat, but I say; Look no further than Anguish!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Anguish is certainly one of the favourites to win the inaugural championship and it just so happens that we'll see him in action in the first match in PWA Adrenaline's history - and it's coming right up next!
Local wrestler Marc Ericsson is already in the ring and he waves to the crowd, receiving a muted yet polite applause.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
The following contest is scheduled for one fall. In the ring, hailing from Berkeley and weighing 192 pounds, Marc Ericsson!
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
And his opponent - accompanied to the ring by Kenneth Casper and hailing from Manchester, weighing in at 247 pounds - Anguish!
Anguish walks out amongst pillars of fire and flashing lights as Kenneth Casper trails behind him, steel pipe in hand. The fans boo as the big man from Manchester steps over the top rope and into the ring, while Casper threatens some people on the front row.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
This guy! This guy right here! Look at him!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
I'm looking at him, Dave. What about him?
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
How can you look at this guy and NOT see "First PWA Champion" written all over him?
Before the bell rings, Ericsson walks over to Anguish and extends an arm, offering a handshake. Anguish looks down at this, then back up at Ericsson. He smirks, and grabs Ericsson's arm, twisting it painfully. Referee Iain Lewis tries to get Anguish to break his hold but he's not strong enough on his own - Anguish himself is the one who decides when to let Ericsson free, and he pushes the youngster back into his own corner.
The bell finally rings, and Anguish sticks to his corner, beckoning Ericsson over to meet him. Ericsson, warily but pluckily, obliges and engages Anguish. The size and power difference is immediately obvious as Anguish pushes off the attempted collar and elbow tie-up with ease.
The slow start to the match continues as Anguish repeatedly lures the rookie in, takes whatever Ericsson has to offer him, and then simply overpowers him and swats him aside.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Anguish is just toying with this kid, and by the look on his face, I'd say he's enjoying every second of it!
The former bodybuilding champion takes a moment while his opponent is regrouping to turn to the fans and show off his impressive physique, but this display of overconfidence is just the thing that Ericsson needs to get a foot in the door of this match. He springs onto Anguish and locks on a sleeper hold! The move isn't particularly effective but it does take the big man by surprise, and brings a slightly louder cheer out of the crowd.
Anguish flaps and flails as he tries to dislodge Ericsson, finally he does so and throws him over his shoulder with an almighty slam. Ericsson sells the pain to his back but as Anguish goes to pick him up he lets fly with a hard knee that catches Anguish in the temple and rocks him backwards!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
He might be outmuscled but he's putting up a valiant effort!
Ericsson follows up by bouncing off the ropes and rushing Anguish, Anguish raises a boot but Ericsson ducks underneath, he comes off the opposite set of ropes and before Anguish can turn round he gets taken down by a chop-block!
The crowd roar, really starting to get behind the plucky young upstart as he goes up to the top rope!
Anguish gets up onto all fours and crawls to the opposite corner, and starts to undo the turnbuckle cover. Referee Iain Lewis goes over to admonish him and behind his back, Kenneth Casper climbs up onto the apron and pushes Ericsson off the top rope!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Ahahahahahahahaha!
Ericsson lands hard in the middle of the ring and Anguish abandons the turnbuckle pad, pulling Ericsson up to his feet and Irish whipping him off the ropes, pressing him over his head on the return and dropping him into a sick Michinoku driver!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Burning Fury! And this one is over!
Anguish puts a hand down on Ericsson's shoulders...
One... Two... but Anguish pulls Ericsson off the mat by his hair!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
He's not done yet! He wants to punish him some more!
Anguish gets Ericsson up and across his shoulders, breaking him with the Infliction Rack!
Ericsson immediately starts tapping out, but Anguish refuses to let him go!
Ericsson is frantically submitting but to no avail as Iain Lewis rushes in, threatening to overturn the decision and disqualify Anguish.
Casper gets into the ring and glares at Lewis as Anguish dares him to DQ him, a swipe of the steel pipe from Casper is enough to send the referee scurrying off under the ropes. Mercifully, Anguish lets Casper out of the hold, simply dropping him nearly seven feet down to the canvas.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
Here is your winner by submission, Anguish!
"For Whom The Bell Tolls" plays as Anguish roars in triumph, but the celebration is cut short as he leads Casper in a total decimation of the unfortunate young rookie. The steel pipe comes into play, and Anguish hits the kid with a brutal clothesline from Hell that he calls "Hell's Bounty"
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
For God's sake stop! That's enough!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
DOMINANT display from Anguish here tonight! Dominant! Decisive! Direct!
Anguish and Casper stand over the broken body of the young man and gloat; Anguish's music starts up again as the fans shower them with a cascade of boos.
We cut to a slow, black-and-white montage of Eric Chronister lifting weights and working out. All the while the montage is playing, we hear Chronister's voice over the top of the video.
Eric Chronister:
They say prison changes a man.
I seen so many guys come in one door and go out the other end, only to come right back in that first door that I always thought that line was a load of crap.
But I know it's true, because prison changed me.
I didn't wanna go down that road any more. I didn't wanna spend the rest of my life going from cell to street to cell again. With nothing to do all day but sleep, eat or work out, I didn't let a single second go to waste. I ate as best as I could. I rested up to try and keep my mind fresh, to keep myself from going crazy in that Hell-Hole. I hit the gym every single day to work on my body, to keep myself from going soft and becoming a target.
And all that work paid off. I am a changed man. I won't go back there no more. I've been given a second chance, and I'm gonna take that chance and run with it. It starts with Steven Wright tonight - we ain't seen eye-to-eye and he doesn't think I can hang in the main event.
They told me in prison, that I wouldn't ever be able to function in normal society.
Yet here I am. Proving them wrong. Tonight, I'll prove Wright wrong too, I'll silence the doubters.
I'll show everybody that I'm a changed man, when I win the PWA World Championship.
The vignette ends with a shot of Chronister in his workout gear, standing in front of the machinery, staring into the camera with a look of determination.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Strong words there from Eric Chronister, but you're not convinced, are you Dave?
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Not at all. Once a con, always a con. Eric Chronister might be pretending he's turned over a new leaf but you saw how he reacted when he had those handcuffs slapped on him last week. He lashed out without thinking. He's violent, unpredictable.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
And your favourite to win the title, Anguish, isn't? You saw what he and Kenneth Casper did to poor Marc Ericsson!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
That's exactly why he's going to be the champion! He's cold and calculating, he's meticulous in his planning.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
I don't see how that excuses what he did.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
The following contest is set for one fall, introducing first - from Detroit, Michigan, USA and weighing 185 pounds - Mackenzie Michael Nick, "The Mechanic"!
The Mechanic walks out through the curtain and performs a routine with his steel-pipe nunchucks for the cheering fans.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
At End Of Days, The Mechanic was forced to take a back seat to the feud between Eric Chronister and Steven Wright, tonight is his chance to shine as he takes on newcomer Justice Legal.
Slapping hands with fans as he walks the aisle, he then goes up into the ring and performs a headstand front handspring before going to the top of the turnbuckle, backflipping into the ring.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
And his opponent... Hailing from London, weighing 245 pounds - "The Insane Homicidal One", Justice Legal!
Legal steps through the curtain and looks across the sea of fans booing him, turning his nose up at them. Slowly walking the aisle, he fist-bumps one guy on the front row wearing one of his T-Shirts before climbing up onto the apron, eyes fixed on The Mechanic, and climbing in through the ropes. He keeps a calm demeanour throughout his entrance.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
His nickname is "The Insane Homicidal One" but right now he's looking cool and collected, he looks ready.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Don't be fooled, Pat. It's always the quiet ones.
Legal leans back in his corner as head referee Harry Bates pats him down for foreign objects, but as soon as the bell rings he races out and clubs Mechanic down with a clothesline, straddling his chest and raining down blows!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
What did I tell you? What did I tell you!
Legal launches a vicious assault, flinging fists and elbows into the head of The Mechanic who can do little more than lie there and try to protect his head. Harry Bates steps in to peel Legal off of his victim and try to rein him in a little bit.
Legal laughs off the referee's protests and goes back in for another assault but Mechanic hits out with a kick to the gut, he follows up with a European uppercut which sends Legal staggering back and then a big jumping roundhouse kick from Mechanic sends Legal to the mat! He makes the cover!
One! Two! Kickout by Legal!
Mechanic wastes no time in pursuing Legal, he hits him with a swinging neckbreaker and looks for a standing moonsault - Legal rolls out of the way, Mechanic lands on his feet. They tie up and Legal gains the upper hand - but Mechanic reverses the attempt at a wrist lock and looks to put Legal into a cobra clutch. A swift elbow backwards neutralises the threat before Legal follows up with a kick to the stomach, and drops Mechanic with a DDT! He makes a cover of his own.
One! Two! Mechanic kicks out!
Legal starts to pick up steam as he catches Mechanic with a stiff forearm smash to the face and then ducks a retaliatory clothesline attempt, he hits Mechanic with an atomic drop and rebounds off the ropes to deliver a big clothesline from behind. Mechanic crashes into the mat and rolls out to catch his breath.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Legal not giving The Mechanic any time to breathe, follows him to the outside and - OH! Slams him against the ringside barricade!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
He's got him pinned against the steel and we're seeing those vicious forearm blows once again!
Legal brutalises The Mechanic as ref Harry Bates administers the ten count... At around the count of seven Legal dashes back to the ring and then ducks out again to inflict yet more punishment.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Legal resetting the ten-count as he goes back under the ropes and- hold on, The Mechanic fights back!
Before Legal can resume his beating, Mechanic strikes first and lets him have it, he unloads lightning-quick jabs and low kicks before dragging Legal to the mat with a judo throw! Legal comes back at him, Mechanic takes a defensive stance and drops him expertly with another quick toss!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Where did he learn to fight like that!?
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
The Mechanic is quite the accomplished martial artist! He might be 60 pounds lighter, but he knows exactly how to use Justice Legal's own weight against him!
Mechanic battles Legal so he is leaning up against the ring apron and then unleashes a Forearm Smash Combo - he revs up to deliver the final roaring elbow but as he swings, Legal moves out of the way and goes behind, ramming his head into the ringpost.
Both men are swaying, the referee's count is growing by the second.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
We could be close to seeing a double-countout here in this match!
Seven! Eight!
Justice Legal heaves himself up onto the apron and rolls under the bottom rope...
Nine! Te- Mechanic gets himself under the ropes just in the nick of time!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
He's a lucky boy, that Mechanic! Just beat the count! But he's seeing stars now after being slammed into that post!
Legal drags himself into a corner and gets to his feet, still swaying from the blows he took to the head. Mechanic is similarly groggy, he gets up and turns towards his opponent when-
BAM! Spear by Legal!
Legal takes the Mechanic down with a huge signature spear, he hooks a leg!
One! Two! Thr- kick out!
The crowd cheer as Mechanic keeps himself in this match, and Legal looks furious. He shouts at Harry Bates, telling him that it was a three count, even going so far as to get in his face and grab a handful of his shirt.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Not wise to put your hands on a referee!
Bates, a no-nonsense type of ref, argues the toss and holds up two fingers in Legal's face. His position is firm, he's not budging an inch. Legal balls up a fist and Bates warns him not to do anything he might-
Hold on! Roll up from behind by The Mechanic!
Mechanic takes Justice Legal completely by surprise and balls him up tightly! Bates drops to make the count!
One! Two! Three!
Legal kicks out just after the count of three and Mechanic rolls out of the ring, unsteady on his feet as he almost topples straight over the barricade and into the crowd.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
Here is your winner, The Mechanic!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Wait! That was a fast count! Harry Bates counted fast!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
I don't know if- now hang on, we're getting a look at a replay right now...
A replay pops up on-screen for home viewers and it shows Bates definitely counted fast - not by much, but enough to matter.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
There you go! Corrupt reffing in PWA!
Legal goes ape in the ring, kicking out at the ropes and dropping to his knees, punching the canvas as Harry Bates raises Mechanic's arm on the ramp.
Legal stands at the ropes, nostrils flared in anger and a dark scowl on his face, he points an accusing finger at The Mechanic and Harry Bates.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Wow, what can I say? You're right for once, Dave. But that just goes to prove you don't tick off the man in the striped shirt!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
What crap! It's abuse of power! It's petty and vindictive.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Well right now this one will go down as a win for The Mechanic, and until Steven Wright and Eric Chronister clash tonight, he's got the best record in PWA, 2-0! We'll be right back, coming up next - it's Mr. America vs Colin Walker!
We return from commercial just as Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" starts up and the fans begin to boo, followed closely by Mr. America walking onto the stage waving his American flag.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
The following contest is scheduled for one fall - introducing first, from the United States of America - "Mr. America" Keith Eastwood!
He walks down the ramp and insists that the fans salute the flag as he passes. Most of them do not. Climbing up into the ring he places the flag in a stand and starts ordering Tony Anderson around.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
Uh... Mr. America demands that everybody please stand and place their right hand over their heart and respect his singing of the "Star Spangled Banner".
Mr. America:
Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the-
Mr. America suddenly looks to the entranceway and despite his mask, he is clearly irate at being interrupted by Colin Walker, who cartwheels out through the curtain and receives an immediate positive response.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
And his opponent from London - weighing 169 pounds, Colin "Sky" Walker!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
First Steven Wright, and now this clown- is nobody going to show this man some respect and let him finish singing his anthem?
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
You know I find it odd how you and I have ended up on what some might say the "wrong" sides in this argument Dave. You're a Brexit-supporting Brit who for some unfathomable reason wants to see this guy spout American jingoism all over the arena, and I'm from the United States but I find this guy's behaviour quite frankly embarrassing!
Walker runs along the top of the barricade as if it were a tightrope and then springs into the ring, going up the turnbuckle and backflipping down to the mat.
Mr. America looks at him with disdain and goes to run him down on the mic, having another freak out when he realises it's been cut off.
Iain Lewis calls for the bell and Walker sets off at pace, running circles round the masked American who swats at him like he's trying to kill a fly.
Every time Mr. America tries to catch Walker, he manages to pull off some acrobatic escape at the last second, rolling hither and thither or handspringing out of danger, pausing as he lands to receive a round of applause as the perplexed American looks on, seething.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Much like Anguish in our opening match, Colin Walker is toying with Mr. America!
America throws a fist Walker's way, the skinny Londoner dodges and sweeps his legs out, immediately hitting a backflip double-footed stomp and then a standing senton. Not skipping a beat he springboards off the ropes with a moonsault and hooks one of his opponent's legs.
One! Tw- Mr. America kicks out!
Rushing straight to a corner, Walker runs up and backflips over the tops of a charging Mr. America and then hits him from behind with a dropkick and pushes him into the buckle. He revs up and rushes Mr. America - hits him with a big hip bump! He throws another hip bump his way and it connects! He throws yet another hip bump his way - but gets caught! Mr. America steps out of the turnbuckle with Colin Walker cradled in his arms like a baby, and slams him into the canvas!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Went to the well one too many times did Walker, and now it's time to make him pay!
Mr. America scoops Colin Walker up and then slams him back down, backpedalling into the ropes as Walker stands and then charging at him with a big time lariat- but Walker ducks! America turns, Pele kick from Colin Walker cleans Mr. America's clock and he collapses to the mat! Walker covers!
One! Tw- America kicks out again!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Mr. America was lining up to end things with his Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue lariat but Colin Walker is just too fast for him to keep his sights lined up!
Mr. America starts to get up and Walker looks to the ropes again, he rushes off and rebounds, then sends a low dropkick into the skull of Mr. America!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
He might have just knocked him clean out! This one could be- no wait, he's going up top!
Walker lifts himself up to the top ropes and performs a Double Jump Moonsault - but Mr. America is playing possum, he quickly rolls out of the way, Walker adroitly lands on his feet but as he turns he gets crunched with an almighty spear from Mr. America! Now it's the American's turn to go for a cover-
One! Two! Thr-Shoulder up!
The crowd cheer as Walker halts the count, but Mr. America isn't about to let him off lightly. He forces him back down to the mat.
One! Two! Kick out!
Once more Walker saves himself, once more Mr. America pushes his shoulders back down.
One! Kick out!
Frustrated, Mr. America drags Walker up to his feet and lifts him upside down ready to drop him for a brainbuster. Walker kicks his legs and manages to get free of the hold, but can't capitalise and is forced to beat a hasty retreat as he quickly rolls to safety.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Colin Walker is not making things easy for Keith Eastwood tonight and now he's trying to break Eastwood's flow as he rolls out of the ring, putting some space between- hold on, who's that?
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Who's what? There's nobody coming out the- wait, up there?
Up on the second level, an area of balcony that is cordoned off above the entranceway, stands a lone figure dressed in a trenchcoat and fedora hat.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
I've never seen that guy before in my life, Pat. Who is it?
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
That's what I was asking you! How long's he been there?
The stranger keeps watch from the balcony as Walker slides back into the ring, he evades a stomp from Mr. America but falters as he tries to stand and the masked man gets him with a gutwrench powerbomb. Walker rolls around in pain as America looms overhead, arms outstretched. He waits for Walker to pull himself up in a corner and then slaps on a sleeper hold from behind! The sheer size and power difference between the two men is clear, it looks like Walker's head might come off at any time.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Colin Walker's in a real bad position now, he looks like he's fading fast!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
With any luck he might fade away from PWA completely!
Mr. America drags him around the ring and his body ragdolls, caught up in such a vicious sleeper hold. The fans cheer and whistle in support of Walker, and he starts to fight the hypoxia that is rapidly overtaking his brain. He holds out a shaking hand, desperately feeling around for anything that he might be able to use to his advantage as Mr. America bears down on him, trying to take him to the floor.
Walker somehow resists the urge to drop, God only knows how, and throws an elbow back into Mr. America's side. It connect, but he doesn't manage to break the hold.
He flings another elbow back - he connects again, still not breaking the hold, but it forces America back to his feet.
Walker uses every last ounce of strength he has left in his body to force Mr. America backwards and then he reaches out and finds what's he's been looking for, a ring rope! He grabs it and holds on for dear life!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Mr. America has until the count of five to let go or he'll be disqualified!
One! Two! Three! Four!
Walker doesn't wait to see if Mr. America is going to let go or not. He steps up the ropes and pushes back, knocking his opponent down and rolling over him into a pinning predicament!
One! Two! Thr- Mr. America kicks out!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Colin Walker almost stole the match right there! Wonderful counter!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
It looks like our friend agrees with you there!
Up on high the shadowy Man in Black nods slowly, he looks to be impressed as he witnesses Skywalker's reversal.
Walker gets up, swaying on his feet and throwing up his fists as he challenges Mr. America to give him everything he's got.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
This kid said that what he gives up to Mr. America in size and strength, he makes up for in heart, and he's proving that here tonight!
Mr. America gets up and looks around for Walker - spots him, he takes off towards him - he gets hit with a drop toe hold and lands across the second rope!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Oh no!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
That's definitely NOT where Mr. America wants to be right now as Colin Walker gears up.... He hits him with a 619!
Walker's swinging feint kick clubs Mr. America in the face and sends him reeling back into the middle of the ring.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
The big man still on his feet though, Walker looking to follow it up!
Walker leaps, springboards off the top rope-
WHAM!
Huge Lariat from a groggy Mr. America takes him out of mid-air!
The crowd boo, and Mr. America flops down on top of Walker.
One, Two, Three!
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
The winner of the match, Mr. America!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Mr. America picks up his first win in PWA, but it wasn't easy! The plucky Londoner gave it his best shot but in the end, it wasn't enough to put down his much larger adversary!
Mr. America goes to the outside and grabs his flag, then rolls back into the ring.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Oh come on, we've already seen one beatdown tonight! We don't need another!
But he doesn't beat young Skywalker down. Instead he drapes Old Glory over the lifeless body of his beaten opponent, and then grabs Tony Anderson's microphone off oh him.
Mr. America:
And the hoooooome... Of theeeeeee... Braaaaaaaaaaaave!
He drops the mic onto Walker with a thud, and then slides out of the ring, exiting to a deafening wall of boos.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
So disrespectful.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
I disagree. He's the victor, he should be allowed to gloat! Good on you, God bless Mr. America!
As Mr. America walks up the ramp, the shadowy figure above slinks back into the darkness.
We cross over to Jaimie Clark who is standing in the backstage interview area near the curtain.
Jaimie Clark (interviewer):
Please welcome my guest at this time, Steven Wright.
Wright steps into frame. She turns to him.
Jaimie Clark (interviewer):
Last time I spoke to you, the subject at hand was whether or not you would be the "weak link" for your team in the End Of Days six-man tag-team match against Anguish, Kenneth Casper and Mr. America. As it transpired, you stuck to your word and supported your teammates but it can't be denied that the animosity between you and Eric Chronister was very evident during your match. Now you're set to go one-on-one with Chronister in just a few moments, can I get your final thoughts before you go through the curtain?
Steven Wright:
See Jaimie, I told you that I would fight for my team and that's exactly what I did. I'm a man of my word, when I say something I mean it. Can you say the same about Eric Chronister? He claims he didn't mean to punch me after the match, but I'm not sure I believe him. How can you believe a man, how can you trust a man, when he's spent his life going in and out of prison? His problem is that he wants to be the star of the show, he didn't like that I tagged myself into the match. He needs to understand that I am the star of this show. I'm sure he's got a lot of talent and he's got good things headed his way but he needs to take a step back and stop trying to jump the queue.
Jaimie Clark (interviewer):
Do you think that this match, which is being widely touted as a way for the two of you to "settle your differences", is going to be the end of all of this? I've seen what you're capable of, Steven, I know you're a proud man, but you're also vindictive. If Chronister beats you tonight, will you be able to let it go?
Steven Wright:
Yeah, I'm a proud man. I've been wrestling almost my entire life. This is the yardstick by which I measure myself. I fully expect to go out there tonight and out-wrestle Eric Chronister and get the 1-2-3. And when I beat him, I hope he'll shake my hand and that'll be an end to all of this.
Jaimie Clark (interviewer):
And if he beats you?
Wright pauses and thinks.
Steven Wright:
If he beats me, I'll shake his hand too. He's not going to, though.
Wright turns and walks to the curtain and Jaimie turns back to the camera.
Jaimie Clark (interviewer):
Back to ringside.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
It's main event time, and this match is a chance for both of these men to win back some lost pride!
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
The following contest is our main event and it is scheduled for one fall!
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
Introducing first, from Gloucester- weighing in at 195 pounds, Steven Wright!
Wright gets a huge cheer from his home town crowd, a crowd to whom he is already well-known having worked under a mask as "El Hijo Del Muerte" during Empire Wrestling's tenure in this very building. He walks through the curtain, stops on the ramp as he looks out at the fans and then makes his way directly down the ramp, though he does take a moment to slap hands with one or two fans as he goes.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
The last time Steven Wright was in this building he was hoping to build a challenge for Tyler Wolfe's Empire Heavyweight Championship, now almost eighteen months later he finds himself about to do battle with Eric Chronister. There is no more Empire Heavyweight Championship but both of these men tonight will be keeping a keen eye on the PWA World Championship scene, as they hope to become the first man to wear the gold.
A security detail of prison guards begins to walk down and line either side of the entrance ramp.
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
And his opponent, from "The Walls" Penitentiary, Missouri, USA and weighing 237 pounds... Eric Chronister!
Eric Chronister slowly walks out through the curtain and steps onto the ramp. The fans cheer, though not as loudly as they did for local boy Wright. As Chronister passes by the guards, each man in succession moves their hands closer to their nightsticks and cans of pepper spray, nervous that he might try something.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Look at this! Those poor prison guards can't even be near him without fearing for their lives!
Chronister reaches the bottom of the ramp and then jumps up onto the ring apron, he steps over the top rope as another guard comes into the ring and leads referee Harry Bates in patting him down.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Given Bates' track record tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if he was giving Chronister weapons!
Chronister heads back into his corner, Wright goes to his own, and the two men stare at each other across the ring as Bates calls for the bell to ring and get the main event underway.
Chronister and Wright both hold back, daring the other to make the first move. The crowd noise grows as they circle each other, until finally Wright puts up a hand and challenges Chronister to a test of strength.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Is he nuts? Wright's forte is mat wrestling, not out-muscling his opponent!
Chronister looks down at Wright with pretty much the same thought process as Dave, before giving his hands to Wright and he easily begins to overpower him. Wright plays dirty and kicks Chronister in his exposed stomach and then grabs him in a standing side headlock, hitting a bulldog on his opponent. Chronister gets up to his knees, and Wright slaps on a front chancery. Chronister pushes up to his knees and manages to break the hold but he's still seeing stars from Wright's bulldog and doesn't react in time, eating a vicious Yakuza Kick that puts him on his back! Wright wastes no time in making the cover;
One! Two- Kick out!
The cheer for Chronister's kickout is almost as loud as the cheer that greeted Wright's signature kick, and Wright goes back on the offensive as he pulls Chronister back up to his knees and prepares to deliver another one. He gives the former prison inmate a couple of stinging chest chops and then a throat thrust, before running off the ropes and lifting his boot - but Chronister catches him in a sidewalk slam to break the Striking Combo!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Cover by Chronister! One, two, he got him- no! Wright kicks out!
Wright rolls one way, Chronister goes the other, and Wright comes up first as he goes straight back in trying to negate Chronister's height advantage. He grabs him with a rear waist lock but Chronister makes himself dead weight to block the German suplex attempt. Prising Wright's hands apart Chronister manages to turn around into another "test of strength" position but Wright dives low, grabbing a big tree-trunk leg and then dragon screws Chronister down to the mat - he keeps hold of the leg and transitions expertly into an ankle lock!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
It's all Wright in the early going of this match-
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Well I'm not surprised. Wright's a ten-year veteran when it comes to wrestling. He might have only been a pro for three, but that wealth of knowledge he acquired in his teenage years is serving him very nicely right now!
Chronister cries out as the pain of the ankle lock bites into his joints, but he easily manages to crawl to the bottom rope. Harry Bates administers the five-count to Wright;
One! Two! Three! Four!
Wright drops Chronister's foot and holds his hands up, before immediately going back and slapping another ankle lock on, this time he drags Chronister clear of the ropes and strands him in the middle of the ring!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
You'd think Eric Chronister would have grown eyes in the back of his head in all that time he spent in jail but he's as naïve as a child! You just can't let a submissions specialist like Steven Wright get you back into the middle of the mat like that!
Chronister's face is a picture of agony as Wright applies pressure to the ankle, but the cheering from the fans will him on and he manages to claw his way painfully, inch-by-inch closer to the ropes.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
He might have been out-smarted by Wright a moment ago but Eric Chronister is not about to give up! He's dragging Wright with him towards the ropes, he's determined to get out of this hold and fight!
The crowd are split as they scream for both men. Just as Chronister is about to touch a finger to the ropes Wright pulls him back once more, to a roar of approval from his hometown fans. But Chronister somehow manages to turn himself around and he pushes Wright away from him, hobbling up to his feet and drawing a loud cheer of his own.
Wright comes at Chronister who throws a clothesline his way, Wright ducks, rebounds off the ropes - hits Chronister with a Thesz press! He throws rights and lefts at Chronister from above but it proves to be an unwise method of attack as Chronister overpowers him, rolling him over and raining down blows of his own!
Chronister starts to take control of the match as Wright squeezes out from underneath him but he can't escape as Chronister uses his power to toss Wright all around the ring - Irish whip, snap powerslam, Irish whip, gorilla press drop. Chronister backs into the ropes and then runs at Wright - he dodges the Big Boot attempt and goes behind looking for another German Suplex - it fails again, Chronister tosses Wright over his hip with a judo-inspired throw and then comes off the ropes again dropping a huge leg across his chest.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Good Lord, that flattened him! Chronister covers- one! Two! Kick out by Steven Wright!
Wright looks to be in pain as a result of the big leg drop, he rolls to the outside of the ring and leans on the apron for support.
Chronister spots Wright, not wanting to give him any room to breathe he follows him to the outside. He walks around the outside of the ring but as soon as he is within grabbing distance of Wright, the Brit slides back into the ring. Chronister steps up onto the apron, Wright is already in motion as he crosses the ring, rebounds, hits Chronister in the legs with a baseball slide! Chronister drops to his knees on the apron, Wright grabs his head and pulls him through the ropes hitting him with a Randy Orton-style draping DDT.
Wright is slow to get back up, but he still manages to get to his feet before Chronister does and he controls the right arm of the big man, wrapping his legs around and then transitioning into a magistral cradle!
One! Two! Kick out!
Wright is looking frustrated now as Chronister refuses to stay down for the count, Not only that, but he's already getting back up to his feet again. Wright pulls down the straps of his singlet and he grabs a hold of Chronister, lifting him up into a fireman's carry position!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Impressive strength from Steven Wright looking for the Deathblow - but Chronister has it scouted!
Chronister frees himself from Wright's shoulders and keeps hold of his opponent - he guides him into the corner, sits himself up on the top turnbuckle and;
WHAM!
Steven Wright gets Blitzed by Chronister's Top Rope Bulldog!
Rolling Wright over, Chronister goes for the pin;
One! Two! Thr- No! Wright kicks out!
The Gloucester crowd come unglued as Wright survives, Eric Chronister doesn't skip a beat as he goes back into the corner and lifts himself up to the top rope once more.
Wright stirs, he sees Chronister, and immediately duck under the bottom rope and rolls back outside.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
That might have just saved Wright's hide as Chronister was gearing up for his Tomahawk Chop finishing move!
Wright looks to be flagging as Chronister steps down from the turnbuckle and once more he chases his opponent to the outside. This time round there aren't any shenanigans from Wright, Chronister catches up with him and swings a huge slugger of a right hand his way and sends him reeling over to the commentary table.
Chronister follows - Wright kicks out but Eric brushes it off and then gets him up into a powerbomb position!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Oh no no no, you can sod off! I had enough of this during my Empire Wrestling days!
Wright flings fists into Chronister's face, he manages to stagger him and Chronister reels away from the announce desk, but the punches aren't enough to put him off completely and he smashes Wright's lower back into the edge of the apron with a powerbomb!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Sickening impact! Wright could have a broken back!
Wright crumples to the floor and Chronister picks him straight back up - he flings him hard into the steel steps, causing more damage to his opponent, and then grabs him by the hair and shoves him under the bottom rope into the ring. Wright is in a world of hurt, somehow managing to get onto his hands and knees and crawl over towards the ropes as Chronister prepares his boot once more.
Wright pulls himself up, Chronister looks itching to go.
As Wright turns, Chronister runs at him again with a Lights Out - for the second time in the match though, Wright ducks the Big Boot and goes behind Chronister!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
Steven Wright isn't beaten yet, he's gonna try and break Chronister with Ejecucion II!
Wright goes for the Argentine rack setup to his signature move but as soon as he gets Chronister up onto his shoulders, he crumples in pain under his weight.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
That powerbomb into the apron really did a number on Steven Wright's back! And you've got to wonder now what manoeuvres does he have at his disposal that can put the big man away? The Deathblow, Ejecucion Dos, the Tombstone, even the Mutilador, all those moves put a strain on Wright's back and now he's feeling the pain I don't know if he's going to be able to pull any of them off!
Chronister gathers himself and takes advantage of Wright's injury, he grabs him and runs him hard into the turnbuckle, steaming in with an avalanche splash. Wright falls to the mat, Chronister rolls him over and covers him.
one! Two! Kick out!
The fans in Gloucester are out in full force for Steven Wright, he almost doesn't know where he is as he hears their cheering but he powers up to his feet somehow, Chronister
comes after him but he elbows him in the chest. Turning on a dime he chops him hard, then once more, a third chop, then a throat thrust! Chronister grabs his throats and reels, turning a full circle and-
SMASH!
Wright pelts into the ropes, bounces back at Chronister and hits another big Yakuza Kick that fells him! The fans scream for him to make the cover and he almost does, before remembering that he has one more big move to throw down.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Steven Wright want to make sure that Eric Chronister is down for good, and he's-
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
What!?
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
He's going up top! Are we going to see the-
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
No way!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
450 splash!
Wright goes up looking for his sole aerial manoeuvre in his regular arsenal and he spins gracefully in the air-
But Chronister moves! Wright eats the canvas as the 450 Splash goes awry!
He can see his vision blurring, his mind is fading, he pushes through it all and gets to his feet-
LIGHTS OUT!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Chronister with the Big Boot! Wright's 450 missed, Chronister takes full advantage! And now the cover!
One! Two! Three!
Tony Anderson (ring announcer):
Here is your winner... Eric Chronister!
Chronister looks exhausted as he gets to his feet and Harry Bates raises his hand. He looks out to the crowd, they're cheering him despite him having just beaten the "hometown hero" Wright.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Questions were raised coming into this bout as to whether Eric Chronister was ready for the main event. Well I think we just found our answer, folks! Eric Chronister is here, and he is victorious!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
All thanks to a powerbomb onto the apron! If I were Steven Wright, I'd be well pissed off, and with good reason! This was supposed to be a-
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Hold that thought Dave, because Wright's getting up! Chronister's got his back to him!
Chronister is playing to the fans on one side of the arena as Wright groggily gets up behind him. He slowly walks up behind Eric, then spins him round. Chronister turns, he sees Wright standing in front of him with a pained grimace on his face.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
It's gonna kick off now!
The crowd go quiet as they anticipate a flare-up... but instead, Wright slowly puts his right hand out. Chronister looks at it, remembering what happened the last time he trusted Wright with a gentleman's challenge. Nevertheless, he slowly extends his own hand, and the two men shake.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Steven Wright said that if Chronister could beat him, he would shake his hand - he also said that he is a man of his word. Steven Wright lived up to both promises tonight!
Wright raises the victor's hand and then rolls out of the ring, walking back up the ramp and through the curtain as Chronister celebrates in the ring.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
I think that's a big mistake by Steven Wright! He had a chance to set the record straight, show Chronister that he's the man! Instead he just shakes his hand and lets Chronister take all the applause! He'd have never done this eighteen months ago, he's gone soft!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Well perhaps he wants to leave the past behind, Dave? Maybe he grew up, and realised there's no honour in stabbing people in the back. Maybe you could learn something from him.
Dave Sharp (colour commentary): Pah.
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
Well whatever his reasons, I support such a show of sportsmanship, I never thought I would see it from Steven Wright. And speaking of putting the past behind you and bettering yourself, Eric Chronister came to Britain with the sole reason of putting his own past to bed, of forgetting his troubled history. He wanted to show the world that he was a changed man and tonight he rose to the challenge of Steven Wright, surpassed it even, and surely now nobody can say that Eric Chronister does not belong in the main event. He will surely be setting his sights on our next broadcast in two weeks' time and more specifically, on the PWA World Heavy-
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
What the?
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
I think Anguish took exception to you suggesting that Eric Chronister could even get anywhere near his Championship!
Pat Collins (play-by-play):
It's not Anguish's championship yet! Not by a long shot!
Dave Sharp (colour commentary):
It will be!
Chronister looks towards the entranceway as Anguish and Kenneth Casper slowly make their way out onto the stage. The crowd boo the interruption.
The camera cuts back and forth between the two men, as Anguish gives a slow, sarcastic applause. Anguish laughs, as Chronister sets his jaw and stares him down.
The two men face-off at a distance as the broadcast comes to an end.
