Seeing as I've only given time to two new games this year...
Forza Horizon 4 is fantastic.
But Football Manager 2019 is a game that I will spend hundreds of hours on.
Now excuse me, I'm off to continue taking Southampton into the Champions League.

Tough choice honestly, Spider-Man made me feel like a lil dumbass kid again and Red Dead ruined my life. I'ma have to edge it out slightly to Red Dead tho, but I'm extremely excited for a Spider-Man sequel with the symbiote, hopefully we have another Doc Ock/Carnage hybrid

He had his time in the limelight and was a god damn masterful villain. I'd rather see Eddie Brock Flash Thompson Harry Osborn as Venom and Norman as the Goblin in their due spotlights. And in the sequel to that, god damn it Kraven or Mysterio better be the head honcho then.

The game of the year is Detroit Become Human in my opinion. This has something that most games don't, which is a riveting story. Not only does this have a great story, but it has a human touch which invokes human feeling and asks difficult moral dilemmas. More specifically, it asks us what it means to be human.
I don't know of any other games as of late, especially of this year, that does that. Instead, the games are more geared to go after fantasy cultures, like post-apocalyptic, cowboy, creating stuff while shooting pre-teens, etc.
This game does something else and does something, in my opinion, games need.

Honorable mentions go to: Frostpunk (for ticking the OCD box and letting me build a steampunk city), Monster Hunter: World (for causing me to nearly break my controller), Celeste (for being such a fantastic passion project), and Florence (for being the shortest game to ever make me cry)... but my GOTY is easily God of War.
Revamping a franchise is hard enough, and Sony made it harder on themselves by completely changing the gameplay. It was no longer button mashing, but careful, Soulslike third person combat. It forced you to stop and think about your actions instead of mindlessly swinging. The fact that there are zero loading screens or camera cuts in the game really makes you feel immersed in the world and gives you a sense of actual accomplishment when you turn around and look at how far you've come. No time skips or fast travel -- you just fought all the way here, now how fucking cool is that?
The relationship between Atreus and Kratos is great. The voice acting is stellar. The relationship grows and changes and you start to understand it more. The set pieces were breathtaking. The first time I met Jormungandr, my jaw was wide open and I just stared at the screen in awe.
There was so much content. I usually get burned out in open world games so easily, but goddamn did GoW keep me engaged. I wanted to explore every inch of the map, and I did. I kept playing for HOURS after I beat the main story because I couldn't get enough of this game. If they could bottle it, I'd inject it straight into my veins every night.
The story was quiet and simple, which was a good choice IMO. At first, I was disappointed how few gods were showing up. But keeping it narrow with Baldur (with backup from Modi and Magni) actually worked wonders. Previous GoW games had epic boss after epic boss, and you would just dispose of them and move on. But Baldur... you just couldn't kill him. He kept coming back. Really built him up as a threat and a villain. The game set up future installments so well that I cannot WAIT to see what happens next. Freya was a sympathetic character, who now has it out for Kratos, which means great plot threads to pick up on. Mimir added a great dynamic to the Kratos/Atreus group. Brok/Sindri filled their role as comic relief very well, while still having some heart and emotion to their story.
Anyway, this game fucking owns.
