At the 2018 Game Awards, Ed Boon finally released the Mortal Kombat 11 trailer. And hot damn, that shit looks sexy. Now, while everyone is pondering over the graphics and the characters and everything else, I've been thinking about the story the game will try to tell. Where will it take us after the end of MKX? And more specifically, who will step up to challenge the heroes of Earthrealm? Welp, I've compiled my top 5 picks for who I think are most likely to be the main baddie in MK11.
5. Shang Tsung
An evil sorcerer and shapeshifter, and main antagonist throughout the Mortal Kombat timelines. His strength was equal to that of Shinnok, Quan Chi, and Shao Khan, three main antagonists who in the current timeline are dead. The reason I see Shang Tsung as the least likely final boss, or even as a character in the game, is because in Mortal Kombat 9, Chapter 13 of Story Mode, he is killed by Shao Khan in order to give Sheeva more strength. But, he still makes this list. Why? Because in Ermac's ladder ending, he is returned to life, by.. magic? Idfk, he's a sorcerer. While we're not sure if this is canon or not, I'm hold it as legit for now, in hopes the devious magic wielder makes a return
4. Motaro/Kintaro/Goro
(ignore Shao Khan)
The three biggest, baddest Shokan in Mortal Kombat lore. The Prince of stuffnthings, Goro, the Tiger reskin Kintaro, and the Centaurian Motaro are three big, scary motherfuckers no one would want to fight. Goro and Motaro were once bosses in olde MK games. The only issue I can see with them being the boss, is they're fucking irrelevant. Nobody remembers them other then they're big, scary, and pains in the arse to beat. Plus, Motaro dies in MK9, Kintaro dies in the Mortal Kombat comic series, and Goro is getting his arse handed to him by Kotal Khan.
3. Onaga
This choice is a bit of an out-there pick, as Onaga has yet to be mentioned in the current timeline albeit a brief flashback moment. The Dragon King of Outworld terrorized the realms, nearly causing the extinction of reality when he attempted to merge all the realms and summon "The One Being" or some other fancy lingo bullshit. Onaga was one of my favorite characters to play as in Deadly Alliance, and he's an unstoppable powerhouse. Plus, with these updated, awesome graphics, imagine how badass he'd look today!
2. Dark Raiden
The protector of Earthrealm and general ally to the good guys might be a strange pick to put on this list - but hear me out. At the end of MKX, we see Raiden collapse into a corrupted Jinsei(life force of Earthrealm) to be healed from his injuries sustained by Shinnok. Then, he's donning darker clothes, DECAPITATING (former)ELDER GODS, and trying to conquer Outworld, the realm that for thousands of years had tried to conquer the realm Raiden held so dear to his heart. A way I could see it, Raiden's become too tyranical in his ways to protect Earthrealm via the conquering of other realms and the Earthrealm forces deem him a threat, and we have to fight him to... do stuff?
1. Liu Kang/Kitana
The undead king and queen of Outworld, appointed by Raiden to keep the unruly in check. What would happen should they turn heel, and invade other realms? Well good god almighty, you'd have probable cause for a MK11 story! I do believe the Emperor and Empress of Outworld, revenant Liu Kang and Kitana are primed to be the next antagonists in the Mortal Kombat series. It'd certainly shake things up and be a breath of fresh air in the continuous cycle of the same baddies in the games. I rather enjoyed their story in this timeline, and I think could make for a well ending where in the end, they're reborn as Earthrealms mightiest heroes... reborn.
Honorable mentions include Shao Khan(albeit being a returning DLC character), Kotal Khan, Daegon, and Blaze.
