ForeverKuroi and Hyperion like this

A Very AWF Christmas
23rd of December 2018
A night to remember for The Icons, as Maverick defeated Hyperion, something that nobody saw coming at all and to top it all off… Bobby Barratt won the X*Crown Championship, even though Jack walked out empty handed, he walked out with his head held high as now both Bobby and Jack have left AWF whilst also walking out with the Tag Team and the X*Crown Championships.
We open the scene with Maverick in the medical room, being checked out from the beating he took by the hands of Hyperion, more so checking his neck after the fall to ringside. The monitor in the room shows the closing moments of the Fatal Four Way as Bobby takes the second fall on Dillinger. Maverick, laying on the bed, clenches his fist and shakes it in a celebratory manner.
DOCTOR
Would you mind sitting up for me, please?
MAVERICK
Sure thing.
He sits up slowly, nearly grabbing his neck before Hanna can stop him, the doctor then tells him to lay back down and rest in which he does, laying down and a pillow supporting his head… closing his eyes… and nothing disturbing him.
“We Quit!”
Maverick’s eyes are shot wide open, he hoped he didn’t hear what he thought was said but alas… One look at the monitor seals the deal, as Jack and Bobby walk out for the last time. Maverick immediately springs onto his feet and runs out of the room, Hanna goes in pursuit of him, trying to calm him down and to stop him.
HANNA
Jay, stop! Where are you going?
MAVERICK
I need to find Bobby!
He runs off, trying to get to the locker room. As he gets to the locker room, he sees Jack already leaving and walking out of the arena, he heads into the locker room and finds Bobby leaning back on a chair with one of the eighteen championships of the X*Crown spread out on his lap. He opens his eyes as Maverick walks into the room and sits up, putting the title down onto the floor.
BOBBY
Mav! I’m surprised you’re still standing!
MAVERICK
What the fuck, man?
BOBBY
What do you mean?
MAVERICK
I know you were wanting to leave here but that was if you lost! Now you dragged Jack into this?
BOBBY
Jack wanted to leave too…
MAVERICK
Since when!?
BOBBY
It’s been brewing since he lost the X*Crown, what does it matter to you anyway?
MAVERICK
We’re The Icons! This is AWF! We’re the ones running this place! We practically own this company! Now you’re just wanting to throw it all away?
BOBBY
Mav… They don’t deserve us to be here, we’re done being fucked around. The Icons are no longer belonging to the AWF, and both myself and Jack want you to come with us. We’ll go into the independents and dominate from there! They’ve corrupted themselves because we’re too good for them so let’s rule everywhere, the entire XHF Network.
The whole time Bobby has been speaking, Maverick just looks at him all confused. Does he even know what he’s talking about? He makes a point about AWF brought to a corrupted state because of The Icons, but is it worth leaving? Maverick shakes his head, side to side, saying no to himself.
MAVERICK
Bobby, I respect the hell out of you. You’ve done so much for me and I can’t be any more thankful for that than ever. But AWF is where I belong, I promised… I made myself a promise, I will be AWF Champion one day. Whether in six months or when it’s at it’s dying breaths, I will be at the top of the mountain, of this company, I wanted to be the face of this place.
Bobby looks at Maverick and places his hand on his shoulder.
BOBBY
Being the face of this shithole is not easy, they’ll knock you off that platform quicker than you’ll think. Champion one day, back at the very bottom of the card and battling for the Phoenix Championship the next day. Is that a risk you want to take? If it is, you’re really are asking for a career suicide.
MAVERICK
It’s not career suicide, career suicide is having no hope for the future. I have hope, I have passion, I have the heart to fight every single bastard they give me. You see Card out there? They give me him and I’ll fight him… I might not walk out the winner but I’ll fight him. You see how I’ve got MGK at Supremacy now? He didn’t challenge me, I did. Anyone they give me, I’ll fight them until I can’t fight no longer or until they can’t.
BOBBY
I’m warning you, Mav, don’t do it. It’s not worth it. Leave this place and we’ll fight as a united force against everyone.
MAVERICK
I can’t. I need to stay.
BOBBY
If you face Card, you’ll realise the hard truth.
MAVERICK
I’m not staying to take out Card, I’ve got someone else in mind.
Maverick starts walking away, limped and weakened. Hanna is waiting at the door for him when she silently opened the door a while ago. Bobby stands up and forcefully turns Maverick around to face him once more.
BOBBY
Who? What is your plan of action now?
MAVERICK
By 2019, I’ll be a new man. New Year, New Me. And I want someone’s respect.
BOBBY
[Confused over that comment] Who’s respect? You’d think that Ziko and Bradshaw will give you respect? Are you fucking dumb?
MAVERICK
Not them… I want Seth’s respect.
Dumbfounded by what Maverick said, Bobby looks on in confusion. Maverick nods his head at Bobby and proceeds to walk out of the room, before stopping at the door and looking at Bobby one more time.
MAVERICK
Congratulations on the title win. You deserved it.
He closes the door as Bobby is left standing there, shook from what just transpired. We then see Maverick walking back to the medical room with Hanna, still limping, the doctor sees Maverick and rushes to him. Catching him from under his arm, he helps Maverick back as the scene fades out

We open the scene back up with Maverick back at the same beach where he burned “the soul of Hyperion”, he stands there as the tide of the sea comes in as it’s touching his feet. He looks down and sees the same axe used to destroy the coffin, he bends down to pick up the axe as the screen flickers to very short flashbacks to Maverick and each swing he took at the coffin. As he is face to face with the axe, he throws it far into the sea. Letting go of the ‘murder weapon’ and getting rid of any evidence.
We then zoom out from a TV screen that’s showing that exact scene before seeing Maverick sitting on his couch in his home, he grabs the remote off the coffee table and turns off the TV.
MAVERICK
The burning hatred for one man… One man who thought he was a god… It was enough to put him lying on the mat and be pinned. Attempting to put me on the shelf and break my back wasn’t enough to save him, there was nothing he could have done to save himself. I spent Christmas this year, more calmer than before. Nothing to be worried about, nothing plaguing my mind, the sun was shining, it was a good day. You know, one man’s loss is another man’s gain. But what if one company’s loss is their final nail in the coffin? That’s what you’d think with that ending to the Christmas show but trust me… it’s another man’s gain and the same company’s gain as well. Let me explain it more.
MAVERICK
Jack and Bobby left, some plagued to the internet and said “RIP AWF, you lost the only two carrying the whole operation on their backs!” and much, much more cruel comments but only a few stood out to me personally and they are “Maverick = The last Icon left in AWF”, “Time for Maverick to rise from the grave he dug himself into”, “If Maverick isn’t your favourite to win the Prestige Title this year, you’re a dirty and sweaty mark”.
MAVERICK
These comments alone are comments that bring a smile to my face, believe me when I say I smiled when I read those comments but after a while seeing these nice and generous things about me, I noticed a pattern for some and it all involves four… simple… words. The Last Icon Standing. What do these words mean? Am I really the only Icon left? I’m afraid not, Bobby and Jack are still around so where you got this idea is crazy but then it dawned upon me… I knew exactly what they meant. I’m The Last Icon Standing in AWF right now.
As he says this, he gets up and heads towards the kitchen, he opens the fridge and grabs a bottle of water. Twisting it’s cap off and taking a drink out of it, he heads back to the couch and places the bottle on the table.
MAVERICK
But with that said, I have a match to formally attend to before Supremacy. A Fatal Four Way to be exact with Raiden Ishimori, James Dragon, and Roy Harlowe.
Maverick chuckles upon mentioning Harlowe, knowing from their past experience.
MAVERICK
Roy Fucking Harlowe. It was only less than two months ago when I beat you, and here you are again. I wonder if any improvements have been made since then? Last time, I exposed your past and your abilities in the ring. Yet, you seemed to have toughened up when your title was on the line, huh? I mean, Dragon was looking to be my favourite to win the title at Prestige 26 but you somehow toughened up. Because you entered a Fatal Four Way after I beat you and the man who won that match was… Raiden Ishimori. Man, you can’t seem to catch a break, can you?
MAVERICK
I know myself, I’m looking to walk back down The Winding Road for a second time, kick ya door down, and beat the crap outta you. Because I’m better than you… No. I’m not just better… I’m greater than you, and speaking of greater, there looks to be “No One Greater” than James Dragon. Ah, James. I will admit, I am a fan of you and your work. I’ve been impressed with you since your debut and from then on, I’ve been a fan of a man who says there is No One Greater than himself, but I dare say, I was afraid of when we would come to blows. As a fan, I’d hate to prove you wrong but as your opponent… I have to prove my point.
MAVERICK
As you have said, you have built your entire career making people eat their words and that’s what I like about you! But, what I say… I back it up, in the ring. And you know that, James. You’ve watched me fight before, I’ve heard you say that my ladder match with Seth at Prestige Twenty One was the best match you’ve seen! Am I wrong? I hope I’m not. I think you’re at a decent level, but this level capacity in this one match… it’s not your level. If you think you’ll hit harder than Hyperion, if you think you’ll last longer than Bobby Barratt then, by god as my witness, you are so wrong. Because, I’ll tell you something, I’ve been in the ring with Bobby and Hyperion. They are tough, they will run through you if you’re not careful enough. They… are far more greater than you, they are far more superior than you.
Maverick grabs the bottle of water and takes another mouthful out of it, placing it back onto the table.
MAVERICK
And then, there was only one man left to speak on. And, good lord, I must have saved the best for last. Yes, I’m talking about Raiden Ishimori, the man who made a name for himself by coming out of nowhere to being a crowning name around the network for his work at Night of Champions and the End of Days Finals, now here you are in AWF and it was only a matter of time before myself and you would go face to face with each other. I’m the only one of The Icons you never faced, Jack beat you twice in those two X*Crown matches and you beat Bobby, who’s now the X*Crown Champion. So what can I bring to the table that’s different from them? Nothing. I don’t know why you are here but I’d say Ziko must have creamed himself knowing that you applied to his company, and I’d bet you’re his first pick to be a contender for the X*Crown, mark my words.
MAVERICK
Yes, you would be someone that’s gonna be pushed to the heavens. You’ll get a free ride to the top because of how ‘good’ you are and how you showed yourself. So, please enjoy the ride and the major success you will ‘earn’ but be warned that I won’t let that happen. I’ve went from the very bottom of the barrel to where I am now and I earned it. Scratched and clawed my way to where I am and I’m not going to let some Japanese otaku or whatever you’re called, a Canadian who claims to be the very best and some wannabe Michael Myers get in my way. I’m ready to move on with my success in the best way possible and this year, 2019, is the breakout year… of The Iconic Prince.
Maverick relaxes back into the couch and switches the TV back on as we come back to the night of A Very AWF Christmas, there we see Maverick being helped onto the bed by the doctor and Hanna. Bobby then walks into the room, seeing if he’s okay.
BOBBY
How is he, Doc?
DOCTOR
The fall should have finished him, I don’t know how he managed to fight on after it.
BOBBY
He’s a tough one, that’s why he’s the new leader of The Icons in AWF.
Maverick’s eyes are now wide open, he cannot believe what he just heard and is thinking that he’s hearing things, he slowly lift his head to look at Bobby. All that Bobby can do is smile, knowing that Maverick’s reaction will be priceless to him. Maverick just looks at Bobby with a dazed look of confusion as Bobby reaches into his gear bag and hands Maverick a white version of The Icon jacket, Maverick grabs a hold of it and inspects the jacket before letting out a large smile on his face as the scene fades to black.
We then zoom out from a TV screen that’s showing that exact scene before seeing Maverick sitting on his couch in his home, he grabs the remote off the coffee table and turns off the TV.
