Hey guys I had this idea for a little topic here. We all have very different tastes in music and we all have songs we LOVE that we wish everyone else would get into. So here is the topic to do it in and here's how this one works. I will post a song *or a video, what have you* that I want people to hear for some reason or another.
If you reply you can post your own song to direct us all to. ONE SONG! In order to post your song though you need to critique the song previously posted. Did you like it? Why? What grabbed you? What didn't? This way we make sure we are giving people the time they deserve and not just posting our own stuff and buggering off.
But hey also feel free to critique and NOT post a song too if you don't have one you wanna share. SO we were talking about the background soundtrack to tonight's match writing session so I figured that's a good place to start. I could go with Octavarium which is my go to since it features every style Dream Theater does. But that song is 24 minutes ... so no. Here is the little blurb I figured we'd give everyone:
So here ya go:
Song: Breaking All Illusions Band: Dream Theater Album: A Dramatic Turn of Events Genre: ... It says metal but it's like ... Prog Metal? Year Released: 2011 This song shows off the amazing vocal range of James LaBrie, the guitar power of John Petrucci, the chugging power bass of John Myung, the epic intro to new drummer Mike Mangini (from Boston area!) and the soaring keys of Jordan Ruddess. It also flows from operatic to anthemic to heavy and back again. I love it. It's like Rush, Metallica, Van Halen, and Led Zeppelin had a more talented baby. And I LOVE those bands.

It's been awhile since I've listened to Dream Theater! The singer's voice is beautiful, and I like their musicality in general. I think I kind of drifted away from them in particular because of how there's no such thing as a less than 10 minute Dream Theater track and my attention span just goes 'NOPE!' about halfway in. The joys of being an ADD woman, I guess. ^^;
As for my first contribution, let's go with the song that I found myself listening to a lot this afternoon.
Song: Christfuck Band: Wumpscut Album: Wreath of Barbs Genre: Industrial Year Released: 2001 Any other stuff you want us to know?: This song, for me, brings to mind the clove smoke scented expanse of Center Stage in Pittsburgh--every other Saturday night, they'd have Ceremony, the goth night. I went with a friend to humor him/be his wingwoman (not that he needed me) and when this song hit? It hit me like a ton of bricks. I had never heard anything like it, and it began my foray into industrial music as a whole that just... yeah. It's hard to describe, but the bassline and the intermittent vocal mix-ins from Interview With A Vampire when intermingled with the near-chant singing is beautiful to me. It makes me sad it was a studio-only project.
(As an aside, Dave--considering the massive size of my music collection, only letting people post one song is cruel. CRUEL, I SAYS!)

Whoops, forgot the critique. I had heard this particular Combichrist song a bunch but I never knew what it's name was! This will always remind of being dragged to the merc in Seattle by my girlfriend at the time, man. Nostalgia.
Song: Pariah Band: Graves At Sea Album: Split with Asunder Genre: Sludge/Doom Metal Year Released: 2005 Any other stuff you want us to know?
I spent a good portion of my 20's playing this kind of music, I fondly remember the bass player on this jam getting so stoned he forgot to plug in his bass amp and asking me if I could hear anything coming out his amp. When I plugged it in, it was like the end times descending. Great show.
Edit: One listening note, if you have a sleeveless denim vest, listen to this wearing that and no t-shirt. In the past I'd have suggested a tallboy of PBR, but that's a good way to end up with PBR everywhere.

Listening to Graves at Sea, it's not my cup of tea. I'll just put it out there, it isn't and it's probably something I'd steer away from. Song: Obey. Band: Bring Me The Horizon (featuring YUNGBLUD). Album: Bring Me The Horizon's "Post Human: Survival Horror". Genre: Alternative metal, rock. Year Released: 2020. Any other stuff you want us to know? I love this fucking song. I love both of them, BMTH and YUNGBLUD, and seeing both of them together in one song is...

Kris if you want shorter Dream Theater I think you'd enjoy their album The Astonishing. It's a 2 disc story album and no song is over i think 6:30 and most are under 5. I'll listen to all these songs once I'm done with Supremacy writing as I need my own shuffle to focus

I don’t mind BMTH for the most part. I do think their best song is ‘Sleep with One Eye Open’ but the TekOne remix. I loved the intro to the song above but after it’s just a bit meh, like it’s pretty paint by numbers. Would be a good entrance theme, and there’s nothing wrong with the song itself.
Song: Why is It So Hard Band: Charles Bradley Album: No Time for Breathing Genre: Soul Year Released: 2011 Any other stuff you want us to know? You’d probably know the guy from his cover of Changes that Big Mouth use for the opening credits.

I'm a Motown lover through and through, and immediately got hit with nostalgia. Dude is a modern day Percy Sledge or Otis Redding. That's thing I love about Soul. His delivery makes you feel every word.
Song: Actions & Motives Band: 10 Years Album: Division Genre: Alt Metal Year Released: 2008 More famous for their song "Wasteland". 10 Years is one of those early 2000's Alt Metal groups that still puts out quality music today, but get left out of the conversation when compared to groups like Three Days Grace and Papa Roach

I love Actions and Motives. Prey and Wasteland also. 10 Years is seriously underrated. Good shit.

Ooh, 10 Years kind of remind me of Alien Ant Farm's lest bombastic tracks--which is actually a good thing, because AAF tends to be a little too much like a pack of 13-year-olds-making-pizza-rolls kind of energetic at times. And since Dave said I could...
Song: Icarus Underwater Band: The Legion of Doom (Armor for Sleep vs. Hopesfall) Album: Incorporated Genre: Mash-up Year Released: 2006 Any other stuff you want us to know?: While many see the name of the remix house and think of the tag team (I did, eheh) the way the Legion of Doom combines songs is incredible, often creating tracks that are superior to their original counterparts IMO. Such is definitely the case here--this song will absolutely haunt you, and the rao section near the end manages to blend in perfectly rather than being a neck-snapping genre jerk.

Nice choice, I have to say the song grew on me exponentially when the rapping kicked in around 2:20. Will check these out more in the week!
Song: Breakin' for Love Band: Cousin Avi Album: - Genre: Soul/Funk/Rock Year Released: 2014 Any other stuff you want us to know? -

Reminds me of early Jason Mraz or Robin Thicke(before he was a douche) mixed with this band Bad Rabbits that always used to be on Warped Tour. It's not bad at all, but wouldn't listen to it. Sounds like something they would play at Rue 21 or somewhere of the type.
Song: People II: The Reckoning Band: AJJ Album: People Who Can Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World -
Genre: Folk Punk Year Released: 2007 Any other stuff you want us to know? - Very well written Folk Punk band from Phoenix, definitely not for everyone or peple easily offended. Fun music though

Song: Keep Quiet Band: The Protomen Album: Act II: The Father of Death Genre: Rock Opera Year Released: 2009 This band is great live, especially if you are a nerd. Who would have though turning the story of Mega Man into a Rock Opera would work. Plus the vocal work is amazing in every song. In fact when the put Light Up The Night in Rock Band 4. The vocals had a rating of 5 Skulls in difficulty, Skulls not Stars.

I really enjoyed that (and it’s a half-decent song to wake me up to boot.) I really didn’t expect to but there we go. Only complaints are her vocals at the start are too low in the mix and she spends too much time keeping the ‘nova’ rhyme in the mix.
Song: I Giorni Band: Vincent Charbonnier (original - Ludovico Einaudi) Album: Original version was’giorni’ Genre: Classical Guitar Year Released: 2002 Any other stuff you want us to know? I will be able to play this this year

His playing is really quite smooth and fluid. Reminds me of my teacher in classical guitar.
Song: Cross The North Fork Band: Jack Rose Album: Kensington Blues Genre: Americana, Folk, American primitivism Year Released: 2005 Any other stuff you want us to know? I really enjoy Jack Rose and his related bands. Worthy of discovery for you if you have not had the pleasure
