Defending in Seattle

KALMIN WATTS and ANTHONY JORDAN are standing out on the boardwalk down from Oracle Park in the early afternoon. Jordan is going over his agenda on his phone while Watts stares out at the Pacific Ocean.

JORDAN

Under “Current Business” Marty Donovan’s people called to see if you wanted to be on his podcast, The Sun Room. I know you do not exactly see eye-to-eye with him, but it could be good exposure. No traveling required. You would just need a computer, headphones, and a good microphone.

WATTS

I got no problem doing that.

JORDAN

He is also trying to wrangle Cross Recoba onto the same show…cast?...episode?...whatever they call it.

WATTS

Then it’s really good that we don’t have to be in the same room. That guy has been a pain in my ass and has earned a beating.

JORDAN

That will happen in Portland. Before that, you are defending your title against Onyxx Breakker and Devon D’Andre at Legacy Twelve. I worked my magic and had it transformed into an elimination match. While it could be more work for you, it guarantees that you have to be beaten to lose the belt.

WATTS

Do we know anything about these guys? I might have read the names somewhere, but that’s it.

JORDAN

I am willing to bet a lot of money that Onyxx Breakker will be wearing something that is shiny and black.

Jordan gives his goofy grin and waits for Watts to get the joke and laugh. He waits and waits and…it’s not happening, is it?

JORDAN

I am going to have the doctor look at your funny bone because it obviously has been damaged.

WATTS

I got it. It just wasn’t funny.

JORDAN

(glares at Watts) Be that as it may. (returns to business) He is “Infamous” or would like to be “Infamous”. That is unclear. No real public statements from this guy. Also seems on the younger side. If he lacks experience in front of a big crowd, that helps us. You might say “Onyxx will be breaking in a new pair of tights”.

Jordan again gives his goofy grin as he’s sure Watts will appreciate this joke…aaaaaaaaannnnnnndddddddd he’s wrong.

JORDAN

You see, Onyxx will be soiling his tights at Legacy.

WATTS

(unamused) I got it, but it still wasn’t funny.

Jordan grumbles to himself, then gets back to the matter at hand.

JORDAN

Regardless, Mister Breakker has been silent since filing his paperwork with W:U.K. Maybe he saw you dominate in Los Angeles and got scared. You and Drake mowed through that so-called “team”. It was industrious.

WATTS

I was in the zone. Everything was going right for me. I wish every night was like that. (beat) Hopefully, I can mend fences with WUK.

JORDAN

I think you will. You went out and dominated. They will want you back. You are a winner, and companies want winners.

WATTS

And beating Goth felt good. He’s a big time name.

JORDAN

Everything builds your profile. (beat) Back to the match, the final participant is Devon D’Andre. He has been silent in this company, too. However, he does have a large body of work we can study to prepare for him. He is a veteran, so he may have some tricks you have not seen before. He may not be at his peak due to injuries. When in doubt, prepare for peak Devon D’Andre. If he is less than his best, all the better.

WATTS

Sounds like he’s the bigger threat.

JORDAN

He probably is. Breakker is an unknown. That does make me nervous.

WATTS

I’m going to be at my best. I can handle whatever’s thrown at me. His first match is a title match, so they see something in him. I’m going to take him seriously and be ready.

JORDAN

Perfect attitude. This big for both men, and they are going to fight tooth and nail to take your title. You…

Jordan trails off as he hears a familiar voice in the distance. He turns around to see Scorpion attempting to get the attention of various women who pass him by. Scorpion is wearing his blue hot pants and a blue mesh tank top. Read here for the recent interaction between Team Watts and Scorpion.

SCORPION

Hey, you! I noticed you checking out my goods! Wanna sample ‘em? A little try before you buy? (authoritatively) STAND AND DELIVER, BITCH!

The woman stops in her tracks, then charges Scorpion. She begins wildly swinging as Scorpion falls to the ground unable to defend himself.

WATTS

At first, I thought she should be allowed to hit him, but now it’s getting hard to watch.

JORDAN

Wait for it.

With a high-pitched wail, Scorpion produces a bottle of KY Jelly from his pants. With an upward thrust, he opens the cap and squeezes. The lubricant hits the woman in the face causing her to fall back. Scorpion flees behind a garbage can near the vicinity of Watts and Jordan. The woman wipes the lube off and angrily searches for Scorpion.

JORDAN

Up to your old tricks again, Kevin?

SCORPION

(finally noticing Team Watts) That’s called “foreplay”, and it was taking a long time. (chuckles) I like the ladies, but I got stuff to do, you know?

WATTS

No hard feelings about the match, right? You fought hard.

SCORPION

No worries. It’s just something to pay the bills. My preferred establishments charge extra for single men to attend, so wrestling helps with that. (looks Watts over) If I brought a stud like you, they’d probably let me in for free! Let me know if you ever want to party. You and me, Watts! BLOW THE LID OFF THE JOINT!

Disgusted by this, Jordan begins waving his arms to catch the attention of the woman.

JORDAN

HE IS OVER HERE!

The woman begins running in Scorpion’s direction.

SCORPION

You dickhole!

Scorpion runs away as the scene ends.
