So I bought this years Madden because it was on sale for $20. I probably could’ve waited for the new one, but then I would’ve had to pay the $70 or so 🤮
Anyway, I bought it because I missed the old days of playing franchise mode. So I downloaded it and fired it up.
I picked the Lions because Goff is a Berkeley guy and they have a good young core to build off of. I hadn’t played the game in years so I pushed the level to the easiest thinking I might struggle a bit. With the Chiefs being the first game I was a bit worried, and early on I was right to be worried.
I started with the ball, and did nada and punted. I know, no one punts in Madden, but I didn’t want to give up a short field. I could not stop Maholmes to Kelce on the first drive, but I held them to a field goal. Then I got rolling and haven’t lost since or scored under 50 as I reach Thanksgiving.
I’m going to coast through this season and then up the difficulty because this has been far too easy.

Have you got the DLC pack where everytime there a break in a Chiefs game, it cuts to Taylor Swift?

Year 1 in the book
Lions over Chiefs
Goff is MVP of the league
Dan Campbell is coach of the year
Also had Offensive Player of the Year, and Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year
But now it’s time for my favorite part, the offseason
Free agency is first up and I signed no one of real note. Filled a couple holes left by my own free agents and avoided the big money guys before the draft.
Before the draft I flipped Montgomery and a few other players for the second pick in the draft and drafted a stud WR to replace Marvin Jones Jr who I let walk in free agency.
In the later free agency rounds I did spend a little money grabbing Stephon Gilmore on a one year deal.
Now time to turn up the difficulty and work on a repeat.

First game post difficulty increase is the 49ers
This is as tough as you’d expect early. CMC is hard to tackle and a blown user coverage (oops) led to a big play, but held them to a field goal.
My first drive, nearly impossible to run outside against Fred Warner, but drove down for 6 on a pass to rookie stud drafted #2 overall
After the first drive being a bit tough, my defense stepped up and shut them down making Purdy’s day rough sacking him a total of 4 times and forcing him to fumble and throw a pick.
Offense was harder than before as expected. No 100 yard rusher and no 300 yard day for Goff. Goff did end up with 4 TD passes and the love was spread around to 5 different receivers.
Result: Lions win 34-3
Biggest change seems like I’m not going to win player of the week every week, but who knows. Could just be that the Niners defense is insane.
GAME 2
We stay in the NFC North and visit the Pacific Northwest.
Lions start with the ball and running outside is so much easier when you’re not facing Fred Warner as Gibbs takes one to the house on the second play of the game.
Defense continued to be dominant on the first two drives, then I screwed up and busted a coverage for a DK TD. Not to be outdone I went up 21-7 on the next drive with Gibbs third TD run.
The game turned into a blowout from this point on and Geno Smith, although he had a decent amount of yards, had a rough second half. He threw two INTs and one I took back for 6.
Goff ended up with a solid 272 and amazing 5 TDs. Gibbs dominated with 236 rushing yards and the 3 scores. St Brown and Williams eclipsed 100 yards each and four different receivers caught TDs.
Final 63-7
Goff ends up player of the week 💪
Now the bad news. I signed St. Brown to an extension, and now there’s not enough money to resign Goff. Might need to look for a trade partner, but I’ll hold off for two weeks to see who is available.

Dear Scorps, When you play the Dophins please change the difficulty setting to NIGHTMARE MODE to maintain realism. Sincerely, Florida Man - dictated not read

Game 3 Panthers visit Detroit
Wow. The 48ers defense was tough, but the Panthers defense has been my toughest test. Gibbs was out for the game and Goff was the most ineffective he’s been for me so far.
Luckily, my fourth round pick running back Parsons had a hell of a day and my defense remains unstoppable.
Parsons ended the game with 143 yards and two touchdowns while the defense, even though the Panthers moved the ball decently well, served up a shutout.
The defense sacked Young an astonishing 12 times with Hutchinson leading the way with 3.5 sacks. The also had a late INT, (that somehow didn’t get credited in the stats) a safety and two forced fumbles that they recovered as well.
Despite Goff’s first INT and a fumble the Lions are 3-0
Lions over Panthers 24-0
After the game I traded Goff to the Patriots for two first rounders. Going to be interesting as I do not have a solid back up, but I have a great running game and stars at WR so I’m confident I can squeak by.
No winner on Offensive Player of the Week by did win on defense with my Saftey Branch who had 4 tackles, 3 sacks, and a forced fumble.
Game 4
The Bears come to Detroit
First game with second year QB Hooker (hehe) as my started was another win and it wasn’t all on the run game.
Gibbs, back after a one week injury, did have a great day, but Hooker went for 226 and 2 touchdowns to hold his own.
The defense struggled to keep Fields in the pocket and his scrambling led to the only Bears score when DJ Moore won a 50/50 ball for a TD. When Fields was in the pocket the defense continued to be deadly sacking him 5 times and forcing 2 fumbles. Unfortunately, the fumbles were not recovered.
The defense added a game ending INT for the fourth win of the year.
No players of the week 😢
Lions over Bears 28-7
Game 5
Lions visit Minnesota
Announcers talk in the intro about the Vikings being Super Bowl contenders, so off course on my second play off offense Gibbs takes one to the house.
But I quickly learned why they said the Vikings are a Super Bowl favorite. They got rid of Cousins and have a young kid who has a quick release and they added Amari Cooper to the receiving corp of Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson. Even with my defensive rush he seemed to keep finding an open guy.
The defense did its job overall, though, adding 3 more sacks and a fumble recovery.
The story was Gibbs, though. He ran for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead the team to victory. And he wins Player of the week.
Lions over Vikings 35-10

Game 6
The Texans visit Detroit
Although I threw my first INT with Hooker (hehe) this was a laugher. The Texans offense did practically nothing and my defense continued to dominate.
The story for this one was that I had to get Jameson Williams 100 yards to keep him happy and that didn’t take long as I force fed him the ball in the first half.
Gibbs broke the century mark again and found the end zone twice and Hooker (hehe) threw for 231 and 3 TDs.
The defense only racked up 4 sacks, kinda low for them, but they allowed almost nothing to be caught and the running game was stuffed.
Lions over the Texans 38-0
Bad news, Gibbs dislocated his shoulder late in the game. The fourth round rookie is going to get 5 weeks (four games) as the lead back.
Game 7
Lions visit Nashville
Whew. Rough one on offense. Couldn’t pass well at all as they were all over the guys. Luckily I continue to dominate on the ground.
Parsons filled in for Gibbs and racked up 154 yards and 1 TD and St. Brown added 22 yards on 2 jet sweeps to help out on the ground. While it was hard to throw, it wasn’t hard in the red zone and Hooker (hehe) ended up with 4 TD passes.
The defense continued to stifle the opposing offense, but spoiler alert, Derek Henry is hard to tackle and his ability to run led to some wide open receivers on play action. Luckily, it only led to one long TD.
Lions win 34-7
