Whooooooooo!
So Sapphire totally rocked and I won't accept any other answer than "Hoenn is best, lolz." Because it is! I hammered through the Ruby play-through because I had gotten into the mode from Gold and Silver but I decided to relax and take in the scenery and enjoy Sapphire; I read everything carefully and I let myself get side-tracked here and there with exploring.
Again man, I love these games. The region is fun and I realized that while they give you the illusion of freedom the game is hilariously on rails. Like even that giant ocean section on the east side? It's actually 4 very cleverly camouflaged routes that all move in straight lines just like a normal path.
The Elite 4 in Ruby/Sapphire is really odd, and it gets odder in Emerald. One of the E4 is Dark and another is Ice- both of which are weak to fighting. This is notable because Stephen, the champ in R/S is Steel/Rock- which you might notice is also weak to fighting. Having said that, most of Stephen's team is like Steel/Rock+Something-Resistant-to-Fighting. Some time between R/S and Emerald though the 8th gym leader decimates the E4 and becomes the new champ. So in Emerald- along with all the water Hoenn is already famous for, is a water gym AND water champ. LET'S GET WET, BABY!
Anyway, I loved this playthrough and I'm mondo excited to try some crazy stuff for Emerald. But enough gushing, LET'S GET TO THE TEAM!
43. Lyndon B. Johnson
Treeko is my base starter for Gen3 so I knew what to expect. My LBJ turned out to be like the real one and constantly whip out his massive....leaf blade. Really, I think that's the only move I ended up using by the end. Johnson was my rock-smasher but who needs that when you have a strong grass attack, amirite?
44. Richard Nixon
Nixon was dope. I saw how useful of a pokemon it was from the 3rd season of twich plays pokemon and wanted to give it a try. I have no regrets except that Hariyama's stock attacks are sort of questionable. But that's ok, the game gives you brick break which is a wonderful fighting attack. Nixon was tough though and fought hard- but wasn't very good against the army of tentacool and wingulls I had to fight through. I floated through the ocean on his bloated body.
45. Leilani Kai
So here's an interesting coincidence. Leilani Kai was a hula girl gimmicked wrestler and I ended naming a ghost after her. When you reach the Elite 4 in Hoenn, one of the members is a hula girl. Her type? Ghost. Neat. Anyway I mainly grabbed her because I wanted a natural protection against the psychic gym. She was fine, ended up beating the fighting gym by herself. But I found the deeper I got into the game the less useful overall she was getting. Her stats weren't great because the gimmick of sableye is that it has no natural predators (nothing is super effective). Still a useful mon, she was my cutter.
46. Gerald Ford
Ford was never not good. After a few successes I've gotten very keen on poison pokemon (something I never used as a kind). The programmers know they have glaring weaknesses to psychics and ground so they juice up their stats fairly well. For was my go to in an emergency usually and that worked out great. I will say that Ford, and this entire team for that matter, wasn't very flexible with other move types. Like he was a beast with sludge bomb but crunch was surprisingly toothless. Ford was used to push boulders when not annihilating everything it saw with snakey glee.
47. Jimmy Carter
Remember last time how I talked about Hoenn being about challenge and reward? HOLY CRAP TRAPINCH IS TERRIBLE. Like wow, and even the second stage is hilariously disappointing. But Flygon? Pretty dope. I got a kick out of how infuriated Stephen's steel/psychic monster got with Carter juking and jiving past all his moves and digging him up. Just like the president, my Jimmy Carter got better with age- a lot of it- like just the end. Oh man, Trapinch sucks. But whoo, flying ground dragon!
48. Ronald Reagan
Statistically, Reagan was my best Pokemon at the end. Once I get everyone on the same level and all evolved I pump them with the vitamins and whatnot the game gives you throughout the playthrough. I usually build up the lowest stat of group- so like if one pokemon is slower than others, that pokemon gets the carbos till he catches up. Reagan needed no vitamins because he was always better than somebody else in everything. Also he one shotted the dragon E4 guy's entire team. Because if you've ever played pokemon then you probably know how to use seals/sealions:
And really I just caught Reagan to Dive/Waterfall. Good deal all around
Stay tuned because I'm feeling adventurous going into Emerald!
