This is an idea I had. Anyone who wants to sign up for this can do it in this thread. And maybe we’ll start soon. Who knows?
You know how people are always complaining about how MTV doesn’t show music videos anymore?
Well ...
That’s because that’s an outdated model. And I think I can prove it.
Let’s start our own Music Countdown show.
There will be some benefits I think.
We’ll get hooked up with new music. Music we may never have heard otherwise.
We’ll expose other people to music that we like.
And we’ll have interesting conversations about music that could be fun.
So How Would We Do This?
Here’s what I’m thinking. Not sure how many people will show up but let’s say we have like, five people?
Everyday of the week, we’ll assign one day to one member. That member posts a music video he will like us to watch.
We all watch it.
We all give our honest thoughts on the song, the video, or both.
No need to hold back, you can be honest as long as you’re respectful.
Then at the end of the week? We all rate each video from top to bottom. Using a points system, we combine everyone’s ranking and list the videos from top rated to bottom rated.
The bottom half of the countdown, we throw out.
The top half stays for the next week.
Then we start over. If you’re video survives, you can still make another video, and rate that one too. In doing this we eventually come up with a top ten list.
What do ya’ll think?

Also, this idea is for new music.
So ...
I was thinking, only songs that came out less than a year ago?

I'm usually up for things like these, even though I always become a grumpy critic. Not sure about the countdown part though.

And don’t worry about being a grumpy critic. Being a bitch is the best part. XHF Music Television Sign Up Sheet 1. Mad Dog “Freak Bitch Baby” Smith 2. “The Maker of Slain” Slainmaker Who else mother fudgers!? If I get one more person we start this game! Wooooo!!!

First song! Wooooo!
My fave band of all time! THE HOLD STEADY!
Name of the song is the Entitlement Crew.
What can I say about this song. I love the church organ fills. (Their organ player left the band a while back but has since returned. He’s the star of the show in terms of melody instrumentals.)
I love this song about loneliness and looking back at the past and at a girl with equal parts heartbreaking sadness and joy. You treasure those memories, you treasure those people, and while it kills you that things have changed, your heart leaps that you had that time in your life.
This song switches back and forth from clever rhyming about the memories (tequila take off/tecate landing/sorry about the centerpiece/thanks for understanding!) to failures to meet the rhyme scheme due to the above mentioned loneliness (If I knew where she was living now!) or, (Nothing I could do about it!)
One of my fave lyrics from this one is the smile you can audibly pick up on when Craig says, “You liked that song too! I know that you do! I saw you mouthing all the words when you thought I wasn’t watching you!”
It’s a powerful song. I think. And it’s my first choice for our XHF MTV Countdown.

Ok, that level of praise for, love for and familiarity with The Hold Steady has won me over to your cause. Well done.
